Here's what you can do: instead of interrupting the calls to play what the sponsor wants you to hear, have the ad play instead of the tone you normally hear while the called party hasn't answered the phone. At least in Portugal Vodafone has this option as a service to have the user replace the "beep beep" with some song chosen previously. it's called "ringding" service over there.
But if you no longer possess the original are you legally allowed to own the backup?
If you have a receipt or any other way to prove the purchase of the original I think you should be OK. If you show up in court with a DVD-R with a game and the original DVD with tooth-marks it should be clear to any judge what your intention is when making back up copies of the media. As for the DMCA attempting to block this, it's the lawmakers of the USA that should be held responsible.
So, the latest CPUs are great value for money... *but* if people wait for a few months, there will be new CPUs and those will be even better. Wow! I've never seen anything like this before!
Since the content being made available for download with DRM is the same that previously has been broadcast over the air, without any sort of protection, the other option they have is to dump the DRM on the downloadable material and put the stuff on bittorrent themselves, instead of having the viewers do it.
you might as well fit the whole phone in the case of a bluetooth handset and just sync it with your computer when you need more phone numbers in its memory. it's a bit like the ipod shuffle 2G form-factor applied to a phone. if it were possible to get decent battery life on that the iPhone could actually be a clip-on.
Everybody who want's a CD will get one. It's a national paper, and he's giving them away at the concerts too. They would not sell at stores for at least months later. and the rest of us who cannot get a copy from a newspaper will get it from bittorrent. there's no point in not distributing the music for free if the CD itself is for free, right? I bet that the distributors' cartel is very happy about this:)
Regardless, anyone who goes through the expense of terraforming Mars, even a government, is going to want some assurance that the rest of humanity won't leech off their work.
obviously nobody would consider moving to another planet without taking weapons with them.
And you should have seen the comments on Mac users forums when it was released for OS X. "oh it's like spotlight but not as pretty" "bah, who asked for this in the first place?", etc., etc...
in the meantime Beagle is in early stages of development and the suite Google Desktop+Firefox+Sync extension makes my life easier everyday while moving between several computers. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I'd be one happier ubuntu user if I could use GDS there.

I must be reading in too much of a hurry... I read that as:
At the bottom, lawyers, growing mushrooms and cockroaches...
Of course on a Windows machines you don't have to use Microsoft's formatting or partitioning tools, you can always format fat32 up to 2tb on your linux box then put the disk into a Windows box and it will read it just fine. I can't imagine why you would want to do that but the option exists.
If you visit Macrumors.com and its forums you'll find dozens of help requests everyday from people who bought a BIG external hard drive and need to format it in a way that will be R/W from both their Mac and their Windows PC. Nobody seems to care much about using EXT2 and the free drivers available for both MS Windows and OS X to use this partition standard, on the contrary, people are really keen on finding how to have their Macs use NTFS or FAT32 on 500GB disks.
Schools. If this device reads PDF, sends email, browses the web without using Flash and other noisy stuff, it's great for schools and the people managing IT resources for schools.
and was your reaction: "Wow!"?
no you silly boy. keep the internet goodies, and fence off the baddies with a good proxy and HOSTS file.

All of them perfectly cromulent words if you ask me...

Jobs will step into a wooden box leaving his head and feet out. Gates will use a chainsaw to cut the box in half. there will be a fatal error.
