I have been converting a few of my DVD's to VCDs for the past 2 months. I can only watch VCD's on my laptop. Home theater system is DVD/VHS. (DVD player plays VCDs also...) Only problem is it takes 2 days to rip/convert a DVD to VCD. So I own the same movie on 3 formats, VHS,DVD and VCD...

At our NOC we have 2 Plasma 16:9's and 4 Big Screens.
We watch ESPN and other channels in Seattle that are broadcast in 16:9 format. You dont even notice the difference other than the area is bigger till you have them side by side. We dont wantch Letterbox movies on them, only Broadcast HDTV signals.
After seeing the Plasma (cost 10K, 2K for cables,misc) I want one BAD! The picture is awesome...
But its out of my price range, unless I sell a kidney. (Damn Ebay wont let me!)
I use it for mail, web browsing, game playing, doc viewing, and everything else that has content.
On windows I have to unstall aim.exe and mess with the registry. On my unix boxes (nothing, nice....)
If netscape was still a consumer product that was sold in stores, we might get newer better versions with added features. But sinces micros~1 messed that up for us, we have to use it as we get it.
Unless you want to use IE (Opps no linux binary, go figure...)
The company I work for uses HRID numbers. Any form that asks for your SSN, you just put your HRID.
As for private life, everyone wants my SSN. When my children were born, the hosptial signed the papers for SSN numbers. They had SSN numbers before they had birth certificates. You cant even register your children for school without SSN numbers.
SSN numbers are not private. What could happen when someone transposes a number on a form, puts in a wrong SSN number in a database or gives a false SSN number?
Most companies dont like thier goings on made public. If you dont have privacy, let people know. If you dont like it, get a new job. A company that cant keep its employees might change its ways.
As a person working in a telco field, I have root access to most of the production boxes in my network. We need to monitor access too our systems. I understand this.
BUT, if they put a key or screenshot logger on my laptop, Id format the puppy and run linux on it. (And VMware for my micros~1 crap.)..
Also if you want to see whats running on your system, use CCTask or Unixtools (port of PS)
Just give me PPC ATX Motherboard. Have it have AGP,PCI and USB ports.
Now let me install whatever OS I want, AmigaOS, Be, QNX, MacOSX, BSD, Linux, Winnt351 etc....
IBM released specs for a PPC Motherboard.. Make a standard PPC hardware platform, (VERY SIMPLE) and then release a modified AmigaOS for it.
Come on people, I Want a Quad G4 PPC system Running Linux, Dual boot into AmigaOS..;) (Oh and maybe an NV10 AGP Gfx Card with 128megs of ram)

I use both Win95/RH Linux on 1 HD. 2 Partitions.. At the win95 Boot menu select "Command Prompt" then run "linux.bat"... (loadlin baby, oh yeah...)
Since im using X windows alot, Linux is my choice for this. Also connection to serial ports on sun boxes. But then, im back into windows for Exchange, Word, and Excel. (If I only had a linux version!)
Only thing I dont have working in linux is my Wireless Sierra CDPD cards. (Sitting in my yard, reading my exchange mail!)
If you want a linux laptop, with a painless install try Dell latitudes.. Network Card is a 3Com Fast Etherlink PCcard. Modem is a USR 56K PCcard. (Simply Awesome)
AT&T (wireless services) does not like to blame people for a problem, just fix it quickly and properly.
Then do tons of documentation so it never happens again!
I work daily with the technical support team. Their job is to solve problems, not pass the buck. And if they cant fix it, it goes up the chain of support, And yes all the way to Frank Ianna.
Our goal is no more than 5 minutes of unplanned outage a year. Thats our motto at the office. (Damn good one also)

This ticks me off, but I wouldnt sign such a stupid contract. (Unless it was for a multimillion dollar record contract.) DOH!

We switched our ISP's from MCI to Telwest, MCI left our T1 on for 18 months before disconnecting it. (Then tried to bill us!)

The reason I use an Intel P2 is for speed, fast fpu. As soon as AMD releases a fast FPU, I WILL switch to AMD.
