The working class buys cheap goods at the expense of itself you mean. If America restricted imports too much then you'd be complaining about that too.

Well, if you knew more details you'd know that this story involves them also "persuading" at least 18 other countries not to attend the presentation, and not letting the man's relatives collect the prize for him etc. It's more than just them censoring things in their own country this time. This is just an update on that story.

It would be funny if it wasn't affecting so many peoples' lives. At least our own governments try to make their lies plausible and their political maneuvers relatively subtle.

Also, perhaps poking holes in what other people do was what the old man wanted to achieve in life. Certainly most people here on /. seem to be closer to the old man than the young one. Trolling or arguing online is fun!

And surely if he was that bright he could have just made a device with a big net where he could run along and scoop up the starfish pretty quickly anyway. Hmm. I really don't get the point of this story, other than both the old man and the boy being douches.

Well, the people I'm talking about have two hands, they're just really, really awful with computers. Even when typing one handed I still use shift. One finger, then yeah you don't have much choice. Bit of an extreme example though!

Even when I type all caps I still tend to use shift. Very occasionally I'll remember about caps lock. I suppose that could make me almost as bad as those who only use caps lock :P But actually, how do they get question marks and exclamation points if they don't know how to use the shift key?

So I am a free loading douche when the same music is legally streamed over digital radio every day, streamed over analog radio every day, streamed for free over the internet every day, all legal

And all properly licensed, and often ad supported.

Only a small selection of music is played on digital radio. If you can find exactly the songs you want at a quality you want, then good for you. I doubt you'll get many full albums though, and the quality will often be pretty mediocre compared to the lossless albums you can get on P2P networks or when buying a CD. You're legally allowed to record it, but you're not legally allowed to make copies for anyone else.

Extending this to say you should just be able to download anything over P2P is absurd. Your argument basically goes along the lines of "I've seen the trailer for free - so I should be allowed to watch the whole movie for free!".

The word "ignorant" applies to you here.

The summary should have made a distinction between wrong and illegal. It definitely is illegal, but lots of people don't see it as wrong.

Also, finance is clearly involved otherwise these people would just buy the stuff. With movies you could still make the argument that BitTorrent is more convenient or higher quality than alternatives - especially outside of the US - but with music the only reason to receive/share music without the author's permission is that you're a freeloading douche. In my opinion, of course.

Why assume I'm American? I'm Scottish and live in the UK. I know fine you have to respect the laws of the country you're currently in, but saying sex without a condom is rape is pretty absurd. As some other people have pointed out though, starting sex with a condom and then purposefully breaking the condom is a different matter.
