Exactly. I want to tag this as 'duh'. The challenge was to mine the original data set though, so I'm not sure if this would even be a valid entry?

Here's how the competition works. Netflix has provided a large data set that tells you how nearly half a million people have rated about 18,000 movies. Based on these ratings, you are asked to predict the ratings of these users for movies in the set that they have not rated. [emphasis mine]

Yarr, I have done. I couldn't justify getting the highest spec Macbook Pro though so I have the less powerful GPU. It's good enough to run Source well but can be prone to a bit of overheating at times :( I'm giving up on the constant upgrade cycle of PC gaming for the moment - I'd say I upgraded my PC every 1.5 years or so for games over the last decade. Only: "merely: and nothing more;"

It's a bit more than 'only'. I've always liked Macs since the late 80s. I kind of detested how it took the iPod to get them into the mainstream, but I like the halo effect that it had anyway. I now only use Windows at work and 100% of my time outside of work is spent in Mac OS. I've just got a PS3 today, and have had a Wii for the last couple of years. I may boot into Windows at home to play Test Drive Unlimited again at some point, but I think GT5 and GTA IV will be good enough that I won't have to. When TDU2 comes out on the PS3 I may just never need another game again (I have a nice setup with a full HDTV, soundrocker chair, and steering wheel with clutch and stick-shift :) ) ;)

Whaaaaa? Has your experiend of computers perhaps been limited to only Microsoft Windows? How could anyone 'like' using Microsoft software considering the amount of shit you have to put up with until patches are released? It would be okay if they let you stick with older versions of their software, but noooo they only sell the latest version. I'm a little cranky because I've had to deal with computers running Office 2007 having issues, but that was more of an affirmation of my views than the cause of them. From a business point of view, Bill Gates is a god. But from any other standpoint, he's just the guy who ruined IT workers lives in the 90s (though he did pretty much create the IT Support and anti-virus industry so I guess a lot of us should thank him for that).

That's more to do with it being taught at school at an early age rather than how difficult it is to learn. In Scotland we only start learning a secondary language once we're about 12, it's pretty stupid. It's nice to hear that english is difficult to learn, though since I already know it then it seems pretty simple to me ;) I've recently been studying a little bit of gaelic, and the whole language seems pretty basic compared to english. I don't see the need for masculine/feminine cases for words in other languages (gaelic, german, french, presumably spanish and italian too..) - I fail to see why non living things can't just be 'it'.
