Apart from the fact that I've never really wanted to use any Microsoft OS (I do appreciate a couple of their products though - I liked VC++ 6, and the Exchange Server/Outlook combo is pretty decent.. other than that they don't really make anything that others don't do better - and usually for much cheaper or even free), then yes. And apart from the fact that that goes against my whole philosophy on coding and computer use in general. The OS shouldn't be using the majority of your resources. It should be managing the hardware, allocating memory and time to apps, blah blah, and keeping the hell out of the way the rest of the time. I'm sure my Macbook Pro would have no issues running Vista, but I don't care, I'm not giving MS money for creating something that is an affront to my sensibilities. The sooner they die, the better off the world will be. When I started off with computers, I was using a Commodore 100, several Amigas from OS 1.3 to 3.0, and Macs from the original Classic (not sure what version of Mac OS it used). All of them have been somehow just nicer to use than Windows. All of them were generally more responsive than Windows too, running on processors that have 1000 times less power than what we have today. I know the system bus and speed of HDs, RAM, and so on affects performance as well as clock speed, but we should have a lot more than we do have. Microsoft are finally starting to get seriously threatened by the Linux camp these days, and it can only be a good thing for everyone.
I know fine that the OS does a lot more, but the improvements (which are really good ideas, like leaving out backwards compatibility in DX10 etc to get rid of some bloat) have been totally counteracted by the GUI for one (yeah I know you don't have to use Aero), and DRM, whatever the **** is causing the 'long goodbye' and so on.. and sure prefetching is also a good thing to do in some cases (though if it's done badly then things just slow down even more with loads of stuff that you don't want being prefetched.. take the stupid Adobe 'Speedlaunch' for example..). I though that after XP Microsoft had started getting their act together, but so far it just seems like it was a fluke.. now that they've had a shock though maybe they will get their act together.. like Intel had to do to come up with the Core processors after the embarrassment that was the P4s/Ds
That's funny, I used it on my uncle's 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo (0.2 Ghz faster than my laptop, and they both have 2GB of RAM), and it was a pig compared to XP. Taking up 15GB of HD space and half my video memory for a fancy 3D interface what is essentially a file and program manager isn't what I call intelligent use of resources either.. even Microsoft seem to have noticed that, if you actually read the article..
I'm failing to see any reason to upgrade to Vista at all (I don't even like Halo, so Halo 3 is a no no.. and if a lot of games start requiring Vista then I'll just have to move to console gaming).
Not really. This codename was created in remembrance of those that gave their lives in the 'Crossfire' Revolution of 680AD, where the French (or the Gauls as they were known back then) ambushed the Germans with their Black Widow catapults, from opposite sides of a treacherous ravene, and accidentally killed each other in the process. WTF are you expecting from a codename? o_0

I don't know anyone that disputes natural selection ('micro-evolution'), I know a few that dispute 'evolution' from one species to another of course. I'm undecided on the whole matter, natural selection is demonstrably true over even a small number of generations, evolution requires a certain amount of faith that it does indeed happen..
Sure, it's fine if you are going to use the other features. I just thought getting it purely for the player is a bit weird. Though apparently the PS3 is on the very low end of the scale for pricing when it comes to blu-ray players, which is even more weird... having just ordered a nice 1080p HDTV I'm seriously considering getting a PS3 though, either that or upgrading my PC to be able to drive the thing comfortably..
I used to buy CDs even as a teenager, and I didn't get a lot of money from my parents. Of course that meant I had a very limited selection of music, but I appreciated what I did have a lot more than I do now (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is still one of my favourite albums even though I listened to it non stop for weeks (used to code along to it).
"I have yet to meet anyone with enormous digital collections of copyrighted works that didn't also have enormous physical collections of copyrighted works."
Well, I have. I don't agree with it, but there are certainly a lot of teenagers out there who regularly download gigabytes of music (some of which no doubt they will never even listen to) without the slightest intention of ever buying any. Of course a couple of the main people that I am thinking of are Canadian and the laws for downloading music are a bit different over there. I also know a girl who always seems amazingly proud of the fact that her family can get knockoff DVDs of films that aren't even out in the cinema yet. Some people are just stupid and revel in the fact that they are getting something for nothing. I, like you, prefer to have a physical copy of my music both as a backup and so that I can play music in me car:P What this guy did does prove though that a lot of people do have a sense of decency - either that or that paper copies of books are a lot easier to read than digital ones;)
Ecosystems are too complex for people to understand, I wonder why we still can't stop messing around with them. That's just human nature, of course! There's plenty that we don't understand, but we still try to understand it, and of course some people are just jerks who don't care if they screw things up for the rest of us and our descendants.
Because he was commenting completely out of context, someone was asking how you could become 'immune' to your own genes, not how natural selection works..
Pretty much all politicians are only in it for their personal gain, so how is voting differently going to solve anything there? It's an illusion of choice.. I hear a lot of 'republican' this, 'democrat' that, how is a choice between 2 political groups going to give you a say on specific subjects? Writing and protesting would accomplish more than voting in this situation (IMO of course)..
Not to mention that, when you get right down to it, she probably just committed a DMCA violation of some kind when copying the host's immune system - probably using radiation from her mobile phone (for the digital angle).
I really can't wait for CSI: Deep South!:) The Church of Scientology International is on the warpath against all those crazy religious types, it's beautiful to watch those guys work their carefully reasoned and politically correct interests into mainstream thought, spreading their love and wisdom to the heathen scum.
Try the PC version then. I usually hate third person view too, but GTA is one of the few games that does it right (and you can switch to 1st person while driving or shooting anyway - in San Andreas it was more of an over the shoulder view than 1st person though).

Not really sure what you're implying that we're set for..?
1. Make a crappy bloated OS that even non geeks think is a stinking pile of poo.
2. Release a program to strip out all the unnecessary stuff (90%??)
3. Add a virus to said useful piece of software.
4. ???!?!
5. Profit!! \o/

Teehee. It's all irony and comedic goldy!
Profit!!??!
Core 2 Duo at 2 Ghz, Mobility Radeon X1600 (Macbook Pro). It will run movies fine, but games at 1900x1200... not so much :P

Actually, I've never even seen 24 (I do want to, I just haven't got around to it, I don't watch a lot of series') - but even I get my sig :P
That was, in fact, his point. He's pointing out that there will be traces of hydrazine aboard too
Chuck Morris?

Onions make people cry.. onion.. union.. oh, just nevermind..
Better hope she doesn't cut herself then or she'll cause everyone to start crying!
