Sure, what is the problem with gradually eroding civil liberties and ever increasing surveillance of the populace. Why don't we just throw the Constitution right in the garbage while we're at it?

All in all, its almost as much a problem as this "If you've got nothing to hide, what are you worried about?" attitude that we're seeing more and more.

For those who question the legitimacy of inserting provisions like these into totally unrelated bills in order to get them passed with little debate, I urge you to take a look at DownsizeDC.org and read about the "One Subject at a Time Act" (http://action.downsizedc.org/wyc.php?cid=83).

Write to your senators and congressmen/women and urge them to support the act and put an end to this practice.

Also, look at the "Read the Bills Act" and "Write the Bills Act"

We've been beyond that "damned piece of paper" since the Lincoln days. Look at the bills that have been passed in even the last decade and try to justify them in the Constitution; the vast majority of them are unconstitutional.

No, we shouldn't tax anybody at all. If the government were to be run in such a way that it did not extend past its Constitutional limits (gasp!), the budget would only be a tiny fraction of what it is today.

Don't you hate that? Connecticut's blue laws don't allow alcohol sales after 9 o'clock or on Sunday's. Used to be 8 o'clock until about two years ago. I used to laugh when out of staters would ask where the liquor store (called a package store around here, apparently nowhere else though) was, and I'd tell them it was down the street but closed an hour ago..

There was a movement recently to open them on Sunday's but the store owners started whining that they didn't want to be open on Sunday's. What I don't understand is that just because a store is allowed to be open Sunday doesn't mean they *must* be open on Sunday.

Ehh... even though I never opened it.

Since the issue is finding a child who is separated from his parents (and potentially in danger), Ms. Skeleton would have no rights to not disclose the location. Is that true? My understanding of the law would be that the mother would not have to disclose the location of the daughter, as that would incriminate her. However, I would think she could be held in contempt for not disclosing the location of her husband, as his location would not necessarily imply her involvement in any wrong doing.

Of course, the above assumes this was a US case, which it is not.

Thank you! The welfare system in this country definately needs overhauling. I can understand people not working for reasons of being disabled, elderly, etc., but unless there is a legitimate reason for it, welfare should be for a limited time, and then cut off! If somebody has been on welfare for 10 years and hasn't so much as attempted to find a job to sustain themselves, they should be cut-off. Further, I hear far too many people who have been offered jobs that may pay as much, or just over, the amount of their welfare check, complain that they'd rather just be on welfare and turn the job down. I'm sorry, but I am not busting my ass off and paying taxes so that lazy people like that can sit around and do nothing, and get paid for it! On top of that, what about all these people that are on welfare as it is and decide to start popping out babies left and right? I understand if you have a child and then something happens that you can't work for a while and need financial assistance. However, if you can't afford to life on your own to begin with, and then decide to have a child, there should be no extra money coming your way..put the baby up for adoption, give it to someone that hopefully has a little bit of sense. And to second apoc's closing comment, they should get rid of those levys in NO all together.. if it's underwater, *dont build there*. What dumbass thought it would be a good idea to build a city below sea level anyway? Repairing the wall's and rebuilding there is just begging for another disaster.
