I have the 8560w too and I love that laptop. After my company was acquired by a bigger company they migrated us to desktop machines and took our laptops (probably only to throw them away, accounting refused to allow us to keep or buy them) so I went out on Craigslist and found a beat up one for real cheap and I replaced all the damaged parts and the chassis.

I just wish HP hadn't put a whitelist in the BIOS so we could hold onto these machines a bit longer by using more powerful video cards. Maybe someone will come up with a BIOS hack to work around?

Mark my words HP will never top their EliteBook series; it was relatively thick, durable and easy to take apart to repair. At the time all of us in the office had one and my colleague even had his backpack fall apart and it dropped onto the parking lot asphalt and it survived and was still fully functional albeit some scratches.

Yup. Back in the mid-90s, I was rather hoping we'd learn more about depression over the course of my lifetime. I'm rather disappointed over the progress made in the past twenty years.

Well to be fair there are a newer class of drugs called NDRI's (Wellbutrin; buproprion, is one) that target Norepinephrine and Dopamine receptors and Effexor; venlafaxine, supposedly is targets all three but regardless of how these medications work we still unfortunately, as you pointed out, know so little about the actual cause of biological depression so really all we're doing is symptomatic treatment.

Maybe all the recent breakthroughs in modeling neural networks in software will eventually lead to a software model that researchers can poke at rather than merely hypothesize much like those super computers that can model weather patterns or the interaction between heavenly bodies.

There are studies that suggest that antidepressants often do nothing, which suggests to me that the same biochemical causes aren't present for all depression.

Interestingly I've also seen some studies that suggest Serotonin may not be the only neurotransmitter responsible, if at all, for depression. Some research suggests that the root cause may be, fully or partially in some people, to be Norepinephrine and Dopamine deficiency. In some cases it may be all three neurotransmitters or even ones we don't know about yet.

For me the real appeal of the Rift is not so much total immersion as it is having depth perception into a virtual environment without having to deal with the idiosyncrasies of 3D monitors.

This is exactly the situation and the sheriff's department usually follows up on any calls they get and sometimes you get a condescending deputy regardless of the law (sometimes because the neighbor told them something that isn't true or out of proportion). At one point I had talked to an attorney and he recommended filing a harassment complaint but fortunately those neighbors moved away before that became necessary.

But my main point is those of us who live in the country have an influx of city dwellers who have dreams of Green Acres but when they find that country living isn't the same as what they imagined some of them start harassing their neighbors until they get their way. I recommend anyone who wants to live in the country maybe rent a place, if they're serious, and live out there for a few months and see if it fits them before making a serious commitment to an environment they may not feel comfortable in, otherwise they might want to stay in their suburban HOA.

Anyway I figure with the tax penalty there might be the chance the money going to the government will do some good whereas if I bought into the ACA healthcare exchange my money would only be used to buy some insurance executive another gold plated sports car.
