Have you noticed some exploitable physical phenomenon that no one else has happened upon? Or do you just think that wishing hard enough will do the trick?
It is not clear why we still need the shuttle at this point. The shuttle is really not a tool for manned exploration of space because all it does is orbit, and its continuing scientific contributions are dubious, as well. Most if not all of the missions that the shuttle is used for could be accomplished by robots (with the exception of repair missions such as Hubble and the missions where the objective is to "determine the effect of weightlessness on the human body"). I think we should just scrap the shuttle at get to work on real technologies such as field propulsion that will get people excited about the space program again. If we stop wasting money on shuttle missions, maybe we won't be stuck with this stone-age chemical rocketry for another 50 years.
So our 1st amendment rights don't trump the right of the federal government to violate them?
I'm glad you liberals are finally figuring out how this works. Post 9/11, the only way to protect our constitution and secure our liberty is to violate both of those things.
I cut my teeth on C++ when I was nine. Graduating from HS this year with a few years of C++, some cursory Java, some cursory web 'languages' below my belt.
Wow, you've got all that below your belt... you must be a real hit with the ladies.
I predict it to be about as successful as the war on drugs and the war on terrorism. I'm surprised we haven't yet had a war on piracy.
That's exactly the point... the point is to now have a "war on streaming media" so that the media that the government doesn't like (the Alex Jones Show, perhaps) can be prevented from broadcasting over the web.
Not only is google participating in censorship in China, they are also involved in some activities in the U.S. which are disquieting. For example, they have been documented (see link http://www.infowars.com/articles/sept11/sheen_goog le_censoring_story_again.htm on at least two occasions not indexing important alternative news stories, such as the one on Charlie Sheen's 9/11 comments above. Insomuch as they fail to index an important story which has been heavily visited and linked to, it is clear that they are engaging in de-facto censorship.
This story demonstrates enlightened self-interest, not kindness.
In my view, the reason why ATI and NVIDIA do not release specs is not because of "lack of enlightenment", it probably has more to do with the fact that they are infringing on each other's patents. I'm not in the graphics hardware field, but it is my understanding that it is impossible to build a product without infringing multiple, multiple patents. When you release specs, your infringements are aired for the world to see.
The issue of tracking and surveillance is not one that is confined to the UK. All of the cell phones sold in America since 2001 have had the capability to be tracked down to a radius of only a few feet by a combination of triangulation and GPSs technology. Anytime the government wants to, they can know where you are -- if you have your phone with you -- even if that phone is not on (see http://news.tbo.com/news/MGBYEM9DQ3E.html). The capability also exists to turn your phone into a passive listening device even when you do not think that it is on.
Now consider this: in Texas, there is a plan afoot -- already approved by the legislature -- to turn over 6000 miles of preexisting roads to a foreign Spanish company so that the company can charge tolls on those roads. Drivers will be required to have an RFID tag in their car with will allow their movements to be tracked and cataloged that company (and the state will have access to that information, see http://www.austintollparty.com/). This is not just confined to Texas, there are similar plans in many other states.
The question has to be asked: why is there is this massive push for the governement to know where we are all of the time and have the ability to listen to us. This may just be the insipiant footprint of a police state.
It has already come out publically that the NSA and other intelligence agencies have access to credit card and bank databases, and it has been reported recently that they plan to begin monitoring blogs and message boards -- presumably including slashdot -- for terrorists sympathizers. So when the government has access to all of your personal information and the means to analyze it and when everywhere you go, and everything you say is tracked you are living in a police state.
We already know what George Bush thinks about the constitution (http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/art icle_7779.shtml), we already know that he doesn't care if weather We The People want him to do what he is doing (http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Controversial_data_ mining_program_continues_after_0224.html) and we also know that Mr. Bush is making preparations for martial law. After he retired, Tommy Franks toured the country announcing that after the next terror attack we will have to go to a military form of government (http://www.infowars.com/print/ps/franks.htm). This was unfortunate, he said, but necessary -- the people would demand it. He insisted that he was just a concerned citizen expressing his opinion -- but it turns out that he was payed over $400,000 by the White House to express this opinion.
Please get informed about what your government is doing.
Did you really believe that they would ever voluntarily slow the march toward a complete surveillance society where everything that you buy, everywhere you go and even every conversation that you have is ruthlessly cataloged by the state. This is why they are pushing the RFID chips in products, the RFID chips in people, the cashless society, the national ID card (see HR418, the "Real ID" act http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.418: ), the NSA domestic spying, and the patriot act.
Did you know that under the PATRIOT act (HR3162 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:h.r.0 3162: ) all of your property can be seized and the burden will be on you to prove that you are not a terrorist so that you can get your property back. What is the definition of a terrorist? Under section 802 of the PATRIOT act, a terrorist is anyone who is involved in "dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State" is a terrorist. So literally if you jay-walk you are a terrorist. Any one of us is in danger of being declared a terrorist at any time. When the government considers its entire population to be the enemy there is a term for that -- a police state.
None of this stuff is a coincidence. Start getting informed about this stuff so that you know how to protect yourself.
To the extent that there is no US science gap, I believe that the myth is propogated for the specific purpose of creating one. If people fear that there is no change for a good job in technology, they will not train for a job in technology. The whole purpose of this exercise is to de-industrialize America and militarize America so that the only non-menial labor jobs are in homeland security or the military. Once this is done, the transition to a facist dictatorship will be complete, and the elite will use this country as an engine to invade and subjugate the entire planet.
I think that the number of cores is going to be the "megahertz" of the 2010s (no prizes for making this observation). It seems that Moore's law continues on, but the limits of electronics prevent higher clock rates so now it is all about adding cores (in its original form, Moore's law refers to a doubling of the number of circuits per linear dimension). What I would really like to see is a chip with about 512 80486 cores on it... that would be sweet.
"There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet"
Please state whether you agree with the above statement and discuss why or why not.

We also know that the Wii will leak power. Get it ... ? Wii ... ? I'm sorry.
What a silly question, of course we are listening! This is the only operating system that can run Duke Nukem Forever.

I find this story interesting on so many different levels -- religion is being forced to evolve lest it go extinct!
Okay, now I have to start telling a new joke: "Women respond to my advances with all of the enthusiasm that one would to flatulence in a Satellite".
I'll bet you a shiny new dime that the comments have been stripped out and the variable names have all been changed to misleading names.
Dr. Handjob Give was unable to be reached for comment.
These so-called "faults" with voting machines are anything but an accident. Witness the case of Senator Chuck Hagle magically winning his senate seat in Nebraska after being far down in the polls (the first republican elected to the senate there in 24 years, at the time). It turns out that 80% of his votes were counted by ES&S machines (a company that he has ownership ties to). That is just one of many, many examples. Don't worry ... if they try to use it as a weapon, we can always recruit Val Kilmer to reprogram the laser to destroy its designers' houses.
