I would not call a difference of 0.005 "significant". The difference between USA and Australia according to the HDI rankings are way larger (or, in fact, between Germany and Denmark, even if there is no real difference there).

The "better healthcare" is also not really the case. Maybe on average - but it is similar to the average body temperature in a hospital, counting the morgue and the quarantine lab. If you average like that, I can do the same and say that with the American average murder rate, a typical neighbourhood in the USA is very much a bombed out ghetto with bullets flying daily in comparison to Central Europe.

For most cases, we really do better than you do. The exceptions are smaller cars (although that SUV fashion, unfortunately, crossed over the pond) and smaller houses (but the quality of building materials is often much better). Personal liberty is neither better nor worse, just differently accentuated.

First, Bonn hasn't been the seat of German federal government for over a decade. Second, Germany imposes nothing upon Spain or Greece, they just enumerate conditions for credits way below the market price. Both Spain and Greece are free to declare bankruptcy and leave the union. They most certainly don't want that.

Well, not exactly what you want, still some interesting facts. After our defence minister Guttenberg was found having plagiarised his doctorate, finding plagiarism in doctorates of politicians became a national sport of some sort here in Germany.

Here are the results so far for the politicians, who have lost their degree thanks to that so far:
    KT Guttenberg (male)
    Silvana Koch-Mehrin (female)
    Matthias PrÃfrock (male)
    Uwe Brinkmann (male)
    Bijan Djir-Sarai (male)
    Jorgo Chatzimarkakis (male)
    Margarita Mathiopoulos (female)
    Siegfried Haller (male)

The proceedings for Annette Schavan (female) are currently pending, also Veronica Sass (female) lost her degree already, she is not a politician, though, but a daughter of one.

Also interesting is the fact, that the majority of the cheating politicians so far are from the conservative or neoliberal circle.

True that the Cold War costs run them to the ground

Cold war is the one, second world war is the other. Hitler was funded on his anti-communist base. Oh, not to speak of Allied intervention in the civil war two decades earlier.

The Soviets would have fared much better had they relied on Fascism as an economic doctrine.

China fared much better because it also wasn't a primary cold war enemy anymore so they could cut defense spending. Oh, and because they had people to spare. USSR on the other hand had a much smaller population. Oh, and it wasn't communist as well, even officially. Communism was a long-term goal.
