    That says more about you and people you call friends than about the situation in Germany.
    Matter of fact, the most vocal opponents of Syrian refugees are people from East German villages, the ones with a profound lack of foreigners. I bet your friend has never seen a refugee in first place, but is scared just in case. This attitude is, unfortunately, pretty typical for East Germans. I know - I used to live there, but moved to West Germany in the 1990ies.

    Valium is not an antidepressant, it is a sedative and its withdrawal is way worse than SSRI withdrawal since it forms both a physical and a psychological dependence. SSRI does neither, it just somewhat changes the way the brain works. The headaches during withdrawal are unpleasant, but there is no craving for the drug whatsoever.

    Besides, $700 a month electrical bill is somewhat difficult to believe. I pay the pretty steep German prices and $700 would be what I pay for the whole year. Have you tried to, you know, close the windows?

    There is nothing wrong with covering arable land with wind turbines and solar cells - it is not like arable land is somehow a premium in Europe. On the contrary, there is way too much of it so EU pays farmers not planting anything and still manages to overproduce. Using that land for wind or solar is much better.
