  1. quality? on Barenaked USB Drive · · Score: 1

This 128 reusable drive contains 29 songs, including the band's 2004 "Barenaked for the Holidays" album, in MP3 format along with live tracks, in-concert spoken quips, album art, photos, videos and more.

Wow, that's a whole lot of material to try to cram into a 128MB drive. I'm guessing the bitrate and resolutions for all of that stuff is quite low...

It obviously means nothing if you're not familiar with the 90s-oughts indierock scene...My favorite from there: "Behold! The future of music: BOAT ROCK!!!" Oh how true that is...

  12. Re:Communist Propaganda Media on 'Open Source Media' vs 'Open Source Media, Inc' · · Score: 1

Fox News and Fox Entertainment are based in the US. News Corporation, Fox's parent company is indeed owned by Rupert Murdoch, and is based in Australia. That's precisely why I mentioned that although some are owned by multinationals, the entities in that list are all American.

  13. Re:Communist Propaganda Media on 'Open Source Media' vs 'Open Source Media, Inc' · · Score: 1, Troll

Actually, all of those companies are very much American. The parent companies may be multinational, but that doesn't change the fact that the ones listed above are American. As for your comment about CNN, you do realize that CNN was started by Ted Turner and is based in Atlanta, GA, right? Don't let the British accent fool you. Thanks for being yet another ignorant American...

I called up the Microsoft support line to ask. They told me they've never had any problems with faulty software or security vulnerabilities and that I should contact my hardware manufacturer.

  16. Re:Who installs software from an audio cd? on President of RIAA Says Sony-BMG Did Nothing Wrong · · Score: 1

Who installs software from an audio CD? Anyone who runs Windows and hasn't specifically disabled autorun for the optical drive. It's not like it prompts you to install it. In other words, simply putting the disk into a drive on ~98% (I'm guessing here) of the Windows machines out there will result in the rootkit being installed.

Since the files will be converted to mp4 files, they should be playable on a Mac. Let's hope that they'll spend the next few months before rollout working on a Mac compatible version of TiVo Desktop so that you can actually do the conversion on one, too.

Will this automated transcoding process increase the time it takes to put it on the handheld even more?

I don't remember if it was mentioned in one of those articles, or if it was a different one, but somewhere it said that conversion is realtime, with about another 10 mins to transfer to the iPod/PSP. It really does sound like the slowest part of the process is getting the data onto your machine from the TiVo (although, if the transcoding is able to keep up with that, then the point is fairly moot anyways). I'm in your DirecTiVo situation, too, so I can't take advantage of this. And I don't wanna give up my dual-tuner goodness for it either... : /

I was at the mall yesterday. EB Games had a demo unit and a table set up with pamphlets and someone in 360 gear to talk to about the system. Thing was, the system was off. The place was crowded, so I didn't bother asking him about it. Then when I went to Target, they had their display unit set up, but off, too. I can understand the Target situation -- getting things setup in advance for the Tuesday launch. But the EB Games situation was just weird. If you're going to have someone to talk to about the system and everything, you'd think they'd have the demo unit running so that you could actually see it in action...
