We can blame Microsoft for a lot of things but I do not think the Skype outage is one of them. If only blaming everything on Microsoft worked for all of us...
I'm sorry I couldn't finish my homework. Microsoft's Patch Tuesday is to blame.
I'm sorry I didn't finish that business critical finance report, Microsoft's Patch Tuesday is to blame.
I'm sorry I didn't get to work on time, I hurt my leg on the way to work. Microsoft's Patch Tuesday is somehow to blame.
Some people already have a similiar thought process. Let's all adopt it.
This will get me flamed but I don't care... I do not mind paying taxes. I am not rich, but I also understand that without being here in this country there are good chances that I wouldn't be able to make the money I do make. So they take a percentage of my check, I get some of my income taxes back. As far as other taxes like sales tax, that'll come back my way some how or other. That is just my view, I couldn't care less if I have to pay some tax on purchasing fake cash with real cash on some website. If i want to do it that tax isn't going to stop me. If you do not like the tax on a service you have many choices; voting for starters is a good one, do not use the service, or figure out another way around it. For starters if you are posting on this issue, to me you have no say unless you voted. The people whom complain about our politicians and do not vote, now that to me is moronic.
Why do people think it is okay to put the responsibility of the parent onto the government? The parent isn't supposed to just take away access to a TV or Computer; they are supposed to instill discipline and judgment into their child. Even if I was in a room with three TVs and two computers; if I were told by my parent not to turn either of them on, I didn't. Not because I was the model child and didn't get into trouble, but because I was taught that every action has a consequence. We had the old Tandy 1000s in my school, and if you didn't follow the rules you didn't get to play. When the rules were broken there were consequences and we quickly learned to try to not break the rules. We were also taught about dangers and why we shouldn't do things. Stop trying to put your parental responsibility on the government. Do it yourself or don't have children.
There is no need to register your pc and or router mac address with Comcast. That is why for people whom choose not to purchase a router they simply plug their usb or ethernet cord to their other computer and power cycle the modem. Oh my god, I've overstepped the intellectual boundaries of the average man, NO! The only thing that evers needs to be "registered" would be your modem mac address but if you get a professional installation, you do not worry about it. If you install it yourself, yes you need IE. If you think you are smart enough to run Linux, you should be smart enough to setup internet connections without any help. You do not need any information from Comcast as you do not need a dial up number, password, or any other settings from them. If you aren't smart enough, you shouldn't use it. Companies usually do not train their employees on Linux due to the same reason most viruses are written for Windows based software. Most people on this website should know this, shutup, and move on with their lives. Or even better don't use Comcast.
I wish I could get rid of my annoying customers in this fashion. "I'm sorry we do not support that, I'm terminating your service. Apparently we are not meeting your entertainment needs and your IQ does not meet our minimum requirments."
Reality: Time Warner is not preventing you from ever achieving that rate, they are capping you from every achieving that rate if you are doing things besides surfing the internet that cause a strain on the network and affects the performance of that service for others around you. That means if you have good signal, have a decent computer, and are surfing the internet; you will be able to achieve those speeds.
Monopoly?: I love it when people use this word together with cable companies. It is even funnier when they use it and then say federally backed or governmentally backed monopoly. I guess none one of you have heard of franchises or the new bills that have been passed by Telco bought politicians as of late. As much as people want to categorize cable and satellite apart, according to the government they are the same category; entertainment providers that rebroadcast TV signals and can provide internet and now phone bundles as well. So the truth of the matter is you have choices within that entertainment category. You can choose to buy rabbit ears, a satellite dish, purchase cable service, or have nothing. Hell if you wanted to start up your own entertainment providing company all you would have to do is apply for a franchise. They only places where I have seen any kind of entertainment providing monopoly would be on military bases. They usually strike a deal with one provider and lock all others out, but guess what, on those grounds normal laws do not apply. I would look up the definition of monopoly before throwing it around so freely. I have provided the definition below for those...
Choice: If you believe you should be able to hit advertised speeds regardless of how you are affecting others around you, you have choices. Every area has dialup, or satellite, DSL, or other cable providers. Choice with your wallet to say, I'm not going to take it anymore. Otherwise, shut the fuck up.

How is Sony's recreation of the church in a game disrespectful? Is there an option to take a shit on the altar? No really, help me to understand how using a virtual image of a building which holds no power disrespectful? Just because someone recreates a location in a virtual world, it doesn't mean it is disrespectful. Example, I build a building where I hold my wedding ceremony, someone likes it and recreates it in a virtual world. Are they disrespecting my marriage? No! You want disrespect? Imagine someone creating a character named GOD and having another character named Satan rape him. NOW THAT IS DISRESPECT! LOL!!!!!
I'm not sure what was told to you but no I do not work with time warner. Just about every ISP that I know of does not allow the use of servers unless you are a commercial account. That being said, get a commercial account.
I work at an ISP and we've not said the words unlimited for well over 6 years. I find the problem to be the lack of will to read the lengthy jargon in AUPs and EULs. People just want to get on and they just click the "I Agree" button so they can get to surfing. Then when we tell them they had to agree to limitations and refer them to an online copy of said agreement they call us liers. My favorite line is remark is "You guys must have changed this on me, I don't remember agreeing to this." Well yeah, part of the agreement is a clause saying this agreement can change at any time without your consent. Most likely you did agree to it, but in the event you didn't agree to that specific version you really did by consenting to a previous version. The truth of the matter is, capping is only a safegaurd for other consumers. It catches those virus infested computers, it catches the bandwidth hogging server running file swapping people causing other consumers to experience poor performance. The reality of it is most people who get capped move on to another company, and in turn get capped there, so they come back. If you don't like a practice a company has, speak with your wallet! But we'll see you when you come back.
I went to Vanderbilt, we used the Motorola 68HC11. It wasn't hard to learn and the programming was easy enough. Can have students learn all kinds of things with this board.
Every ISP that I know of supplies parental controls, I work for an ISP. The best parental control is...The Parent. When my kids watch TV I watch it with them. When my kids use our computers, I'm with them. If they get to somehow see nudity I don't blame the broadcast station, it is my responsibility to change the channel. Then explain why I changed the channel to my children. I do not rely on the Internet, a location where information is free flowing, to restrict itself. The TV or computer are not babysitters, do your job as a parent and take the proper steps to take care of them. Do not rely on someone else to do that. Most parents do not want the government telling them how to parent yet they rely on the government to tell these companies how to interact with their children. Either you want government interference or you don't.
Your comparison is by far not the same. Over a period of less than 30 years the scientists changed opinions on global climate changes. It took hundreds of years for people to say that the Earth is not the center of the universe.
Actucally Penn & Teller used the very document the government used to base most of its policy when it comes to second hand smoke. They read it out loud and it does not say second had smoke is dangerous. To get back on topic...
The very basis of my post pretty much echos you final statement. We need to entertain all facets an idea. Most people don't do that.
I'd first have to ask everyone who believes in a man made global warming to watch the global warming episode of BULLSHIT! by Pen and Teller. In that show, they have both experts for and against global warming. That would be a good place to start. Secondly, let me point out that sometime in the 70's early 80's, can't remember, there were scientist crying about global COOLING! I don't know if everyone else remembers that, but I do. I don't agree that we should censor anyone. Let everyone's ideas flow free and keep this quote from Aristotle in mind:
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" -- Aristotle
The deadline they are speaking about is the all digital signal deadline. The reason they let the little companies get away from this decision is because they claimed they were still in the process of switching to all digital. They won't accept that from the larger companies.
EE degrees really do not mean much unless you are talking about the nitty gritty high end stuff. If he wants to learn how to build something really complex like appliances etc etc then you want the EE degree. If you want to become proficient in constructing IC you need four things. A good EE book or Internet access, either would do just fine. Access to components like resistors, transistors, etc etc. A lot of time to tinker with them. And most importantly, a creative mind. The books/ internet will let you know the theories like Ohm's law etc etc. Most importantly you can learn what each component does. Not what it is used for, but what it actually does to your voltage and current etc etc. And here is the kicker, without the creativity to put all the info together and the time to tinker around you won't be able to advance yourself. I know plenty of EE graduates whom have the basic skills to know how circuits are built and some basic circuits which they were forced to study in school. But you give them a pile of components and tell them to create something, guess what, they are lost. Lack of creativity can stunt your growth.
It has nothing to do with how much of a dick you are. All to do with if you want to take the time to possibly help someone who obviously needs a job understand how they can become better candidates. To me, the worst case scenario is when I don't get any constructive feedback. If I get something I can work on, like you interpersonal skills are not at the level we are looking for at the moment. That is something I can work with. You lack the experience we need for this position at least lets me know something. Saying nothing is the worst thing you can do. Now, I understand that people in this world are crazy and giving someone constructive feedback can be a touchy situation. However, the possibility of having a candidate come back a different time after working on all their faults and actually being a good candidate should outweigh the risks. Companies waste so much money on employee recruitment, why wouldn't they want to develop potential talent and spend less money. Now as far as a candidate that might be a threat to you code base you'll be doing that person a favor by letting him know he needs to either sharpen his skills or make a career change. He'll save his time, gas, and energy on a hopeless interview.
What a bunch of freaking babies! Let us get this straight. You are listening to a program on the radio, you hear something you don't like so you decide to record it and purposely shut it down. That is called malice. You are purposely hurting someone's livelihood because of your own beliefs. Here something else you could have done and it would have been much faster, turn the freaking dial on the radio and listen to something else. There is no difference in saying you support torture and you support the death penalty. They both cause someone harm, yes killing someone is harming them. The radio show simply stated their opinions. That Spocko person wasn't looking to voice his opinion, he was purposely looking to make that radio show lose sponsorship and in effect possibly get shutdown. Spocko is no different than a parent that leaves their child in front of the TV with cinemax on late night and is surprised to see nudity on the screen. It is freaking simple turn off the damn thing. ARGH! People in this society we call America are so freaking stuck on themselves. How much freaking effort does it take to twist a knob or push a button, or even better walk away, and keep on walking till you fall off a cliff.
Somebody just got a brand new phantom in their driveway via payouts from Telecoms. The FCC are the ones that required cable companies and sat companies to sign individual franchise agreements with each city that service was offered. Why would they go and allow telecoms to skip that step with their services? At the minimum mandate that they have to roll out their products to everyone. Crazy!
I'm not. This is the same kind of misleading information that they gave about Atkins and other things that ended hurting people instead of helping. Yeah cut the carbs, increase the fat and protein. So you die of a heart attack, who cares, you were skinny at your time of death. That was a real good idea.
Javascript has been used to do so many things, I dare say most web developers have used it with great success to complete a wide variety of projects. But until further improvements are made to it there is no need to give it "more" respect.
It is crazy how every week someone releases another scientific finding after only running one experiment. The funnier part is how quickly the public is to line up and swallow the feces. Most of these so called "sound scientific reports" are badly planned experiments, well correlating observations, that don't really test for what they say they test. A good example would be the vaccination for cervical cancer, which is really a vaccination for a virus not the cancer. But hey John Q Public is first to sit at the table, put a bib on, and enjoy the big old pile of....
No I would not be willing to spend the extra money for net neutrality. Anymore no brainer questions you'd like to ask?
