... that the new designers will come up with a reset sequence that uses keys that are easier to use than 'CTRL-ALT-DEL' which are way too far apart on the QWERTY keyboard.
I assume, of course, that Microsoft has no intention of making their products more robust, and therefore... oh, never mind.
is a service where I type in some lyrics and the song information pops up. I admit I simply cannot keep up with the music my kids listen to, and the radio stations don't tell me what artist or song they are playing. I want to know who the artist is and so forth so that when I am talking to the kids they will "think" I have some clue.
Now, there is this Clarkson girl and I've seen pictures of her, so, at least that much has registered in my brain!
I know you can sort-of do this already, but, if the engine that did this was not just some 'bot that went to the lyric sites but something that worked better... anyway, let's see how this "plays out"
(sorry)
I read the article (!) and it didn't say enough about this importnat issue. I thought it was more like, the telescope should be near the equator?
Now I need to go look into this further. One wonders why there'd be a push for a telescope at such high latitudes, if that's not where they are best placed.
A saying about how the "world will beat a path to your door" comes to mind.
Why haven't I heard more about how this phenomenon might be used for rodent control? Surely the sounds could be either digitized and played back, or... even better... a heuristic process could listen to the male's response to a pheromone bait-trap, and then the 'gizmo' would warble back...
Am I the only one who is thinking this?
Big money here. Rodents cause many millions of dollars of damage to grains stores annually.
Indeed. Modded down as troll, eh?
I'm 44 years old and co-opped at Bell Labs before my EE days, and then I did the MBA route.
My comments were absolutely candid; no trolling.
I'll wager I was modded down by somebody under the age of 30, who really doesn't know what was, before... I've lived it, in my life experience, up close, both ways. The old way was WAS better!
I'd gladly go back to paying 20 cents a minute for long distance, if I knew the profits would go to fund private R&D like they did up until 1984.
PS: no Luddite here... I have Vonage (it sucks), I have Skype (ditto), I have Ubuntu (now, THAT'S good, but, it has roots at Bell Labs!), I build stuff from scratch (using semiconductors developed you-know-where) encased in durable plastics (ditto).
And, moreover, why such an outcry? The fact that collecting revenue on the use of somebody else's capital hasn't been the case, is the anomaly.
Bandwidth, despite what you've been led to believe, isn't free. The RBOCs and others just LET it be free (as in beer...) to see what kinds of applications, and therefore business models, would pop up.
Since we have an answer to that now, it's time for fee-based sensibilities to return to the market.
maybe, if we're lucky, the new AT&T will buy Bell Labs back from Lucent, and start funding it the way it used to be. It's the best thing that could ever happen, IMHO.
Too bad they didn't say HOW to apply!
I think the pool could be bigger, and then teh chouces would be more broadly based.
Also, I'd like to know the judges' CVs.
Gee, I'm not all that certain parent *was* a troll.
The 'message' might have been conveyed in a more tactful manner, to be certain, however; the essence is correct.
Racism is a two-way street, and it's my own belief that the racism expressed by blacks towards whites is more vehement, damaging, and violent than that racism (what little remains of it) of whites towards blacks.
The sanctimonious behavior of whites, many of whom are over a certain age or of a certain political bent and feel some kind of guilt about their inner feelings about blacks, is more appalling than overt racism.
Unless we all face our own bigotry - black people, too - the manifestations of it will present themselves in perpetuity.
... about the fact that this sort of stunt requires decent, secure, low-latency bandwidth?
The ASP wannabe's and the Layer 7 people always seem to forget "it's the wires, stupid" and that is the Achilles' Heel.
I have faith that bandwidth is coming. The LECs (in the US) may end up being able to point to a revenue stream in order to finance the bonds they'll need to replace the twisted-pair infrasructure. It'll take hundreds of billions of dollars, but, it CAN happen.
We NEED it to happen for all kinds of reasons. Partly to end our dependency on oil, partly to decentralize the population, partly to show the 'Net can be financed by something other than pr0n.
Ironically, it's this sort of thing that will also drive LU/NT/Alcatel/JDSU stock back up. Too bad the revolution's coming 5 years too late.
I hope that they bring the Bell logo back. BellSouth is the only RBOC to still use it (and the original company colors).
Gee. Maybe they could make the new space shuttle tiles out of this stuff?

Why was this modded 'troll' ?? Gee whiz, at least TRY to demonstrate SOME kind of objectivity, people. This isn't NBC or CBS News.

I don't read "The Onion" anymore because the new website design sucks. Who does this guy think he is?
