From what I've heard about many websites based in S. Korea, you need to provide a resident registration number (like the US SSN) in order to register. This hack should be proof that websites shouldn't demand such personally identifing information.

The bump up to 240 from 130 is currently being voted on by the WG and the ballot doesn't close until the end of this week, so it is premature to say that in the summary (but might be true real soon.)

  6. Re:Mod summary up! on There Oughta Be a Standard: Laptop Power Supplies · · Score: 3, Informative

I've been on the mailing list for this working group for about a year now (I am an IEEE-SA member but you don't have to be to be on a WG), and one of the first things I brought up is my tendency to drop my electronics :) A bit more detail, the current thinking is that it will use CAN 2.0 for the link layer but the physical layer is still being hashed out. The device needs communication to negotiate between the power adapter and the device to be powered. The device and power supply will communicate things like if it sourcing or sinking current (or capable of doing both), whether it is a battery, an intermittent supply like wind or solar, etc. It sounds pretty cool if manufacturers go along with it.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read "30. Do not rest, do not sleep for an instant, until the one-nostriled man is brought to justice. Then return the stolen goods." Of course, if the planners really knew what they were doing, this would have been listed as item 27.... ;-) And if you find one, please tell me where I can buy one so I can bring it to my next concert for Al to sign??? :)

This acutally turned out infinitely better than when he released You're Pitiful on weirdal.com - thankfully Bermuda, master drummer and webmaster, quickly allowed other sites to mirror that mp3. I'm particularly looking forward to the 6 animated videos. Just hope I have a optical drive on one of my computers capable of playing that bastardized Sony DualDisk... and there isn't some new Sony-sponsored rootkit waiting for me...

  15. Re:Weird Al, an Artist? on How iTunes Hurts Weird Al · · Score: 1

It doesn't seem at all odd that someone in Al's fanbase would have asked that question. While everyone has heard of him, some of his albums might take a year or more after their release to go platinum. When you are a major recording artist, selling 5-6 million copies of an album in a month or less, I'm not really all that concerned about how many cents you get from my album purchase. Sure, either way, he's got oodles more money than I ever will, but if he's going to entertain me, I want him to get he most out of my purchase as possible. Disclamer: As you might be able to tell from my screen name, I am a Weird Al fan. I've seen him in concert 21 times, in 6 different states. I've met Al. I've met his manager. I've been to a fan convention. Those scissors stuck in Bermuda's head in the liner notes of Running With Scissors? They are in my living room.... I might not be all that impartial here :)
