    My pet peeve of scientific nomenclature making it's way into the vernacular is the phrase "quantum leap". In quantum mechanics a "quanta" is the smallest package something (like energy) can come in, so a "quantum leap forward" would be the smallest amount that something could progress.

    Back in 1999 my GF's co-worker was overheard explaining why there was going to be an Y2K crisis. When the year rolled to '00 all the computers would think in was 1900, and since computers didn't exist in 1900 they would all stop working!

    It's a good thing her only job was to clean out dog kennels.

    IE7 doesn't render http://www.mozilla.org/ correctly. The monitor on the RHS keeps moving around independent of the image on the screen when you refresh.

    Though I agree with most of your post, the following:

    And big slow bullets (e.g., .45 ACP) are about the best single-round choice for self-defense there is, because not only will they take down the target, if you miss they're much less likely to go through three walls and kill your neighbor's toddler. Even better is a short-barreled 16-ga. shotgun.

    I have to take difference with.

    Any handgun more powerful than a .22 will easily penetrate six interior walls, as well as a shotgun. That they don't is a myth. Educate yourself at The Box-O-Truth.

    I also disagree with your statement that ballistic gel doesn't accurately model human tissue and that cavitation is not a significant effect of a projectile impact. So does practically the entirety of the firearm industry.

    But then you can just run /lib/ld-linux.so.2 /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/bin/script.pl

    I think you'd better chmod -x /lib/ld-*.so* on your systems just to make sure they're secure. :-)
