The new phones are TTY compatible, they do not have a TTY in them, but if you hook a TTY to them it actually works, whereas with the other digital phones that aren't TTY compatible (right now the majority) you get alot of garbage characters.
Analog cell phones are unaffected and with a TTY just fine without modification
I had dual acoustic neuromas (double the pleasure, double the fun!) and experience everything you've said. Even in well lit situations, my balance is precarious, I am able to get around usually just fine, but if I stumble, there is very little of a recovery mechanism.
I'm definitely going to see if I can contact this guy to find out more, tho after this article, he's probably experiencing some slashdotting-like effects himself.
I think this would depend on the receiver too, you could just rig it up so that when there was a carrier on your frequency (regardless of what), the circuit closes.
>>You hear about telecomm companies putting their own special networks together all the time. The entertainment industry needs to do the same. HDTVNet (or whatever they call it) can then be tightly controlled, with high-security copy protection devices all down the line, right down to the decoder on the TV. Make them completely inaccessable to the desktop - freaked out connectors, bizzare syncing and decoding strategies, whatever. No special legislation required - just technological consistancy in their own products. >>
It's not quite to the extent you say, but basically that is what cable TV is. They already have a means of delivering content to your house, complete with security and encryption (no matter how laughable) that's illegal to defeat.
In a way.. this sounds like it would do exactly what the original poster wants to do. If the Proxy can't get to the host your trying for whatever reason, it stopped redirecting for that host for a short period of time.
Still you could file it under "less broke" rather than a fix:)
I thought the real reason for positioning call centers in the Plain States (Oklohama, Kansas) was because it was very close to the geographical center of the US. Allowing for the shortest distance to any location in the lower 48 (short leased lines?). I once read the Airlines have their reservation centers positioned for just this reason.
Actually a local Village put sponsorship for their golf tournament (BC Open) on ebay. Starting bid was like a million dollars. They were recommended to this approach by a marketing firm.
Betamax equipment tends to be more towards high-end broadcast equipment.
an S-VHS Camera Setup for Electronic News Gathering can be assembled for a couple thousand dollars, so it tends to be favored by smaller stations/college production courses (where I used it) etc
As a Deaf linux user, there isn't very many times that I could wish for sound, your correct. The biggest one would be the option of a visual bell. The only one I've found, does not work under X-Windows, which makes it pretty useless for me. The only time when I'd possibly need it, is when I'm working under XWindows.
Windows has a built in visual bell, that does not work most of the time. The only time I've been able to make it work is when the sound card is configured.
As for the poster about the TTY modem, they are out there and even though the software package offered with them is Windows specific, I beleive the modems are capable of running in a standard terminal.
There is a program for Windows that forces Voice Modems to generate and decode TTY tones (at a far less cost than a hardware TTY modem), a Linux version of that would be nice.
10 years ago or so, before Cell phone's exist as they do nowadays, Motorola had a 900mhz system that was like cell phones but not the same in all aspects.
Anyways, the phones could be tweaked to the ham bands with a little bit of work. The ones I saw were only land-line linked through a standard auto patch and they were mainly used to talk to other hams with modified phones.
That's what they are there for:)
The Cameras are for recording your license plate for violations, (speeding through the lane, using the lane with no tag to evade tolls)
Pete
Some states have photo-radar traps that work on a similar principal
When the radar gun shows you exceeding the preset limit, it pops a picture.
They send you the summons, picture with time/date/speed stamp on it and your sunk.
I beleive this isn't considered legal tho in some states. That's why it's not wide spread
Pete
Ok I'm deaf so I've actually used this

Wow, can I join the club?

A tip I've found is keep your sytlus clean, even the plastic ones. The slightest bit of dirt on the tip is like sandpaper to your screen.
I've also had good luck with those transparent "screen protectors"

Because using a shoppers club card, a credit card are optional and you can still get the service without them.
Ie: Don't use the card, pay cash, etc..
You don't have a whole lot of choice but to furnish a State Sponsored ID to get in the bar or purchase Alcohol/Cigarettes.

No one bid tho
Actually as a deaf person...
I can tell you that deafness does indeed heighten your other senses. Jets going over like that would feel like an earthquake.

It's the same way as many radar detectors are made by the companies who make the radar guns

Wether or not they time you, if you use it to commit a crime, at least in NY, they can use the timestamps to help pin down where you were in court.
