  1. PIN Number is incorrect on Using Face Recognition Instead of a PIN Number · · Score: 0, Redundant

It's not "PIN Number", PIN stands for "Personal Identification Number", so you are really saying "Personal Identification Number Number", which is of course a redundancy.

Why sure, make all your money electronic, where the only proof of your hard earned money is just digits on a computer somewhere, every single little transaction you make logged and tracked, where the bank can freeze it for little reason, soon a profile of ALL your spending habits is out in the open for all agencies to see. What a great idea!

  4. IP on SGI Sues ATI for Patent Infringement · · Score: 1

In my view, its not 'Property' if you unknowingly infringe on patents that companies have "invested a lot of research and development into"

Its far more like 'research things that are as likely as possible to be thought of eventually by someone else then sue them into the ground for "damages" and royalties'

Which in effect means, as the vast majority of us know, the patent system is ripe for abuse and has been abused since its creation. [/rant]

What you refer to is called a Q:Line, which prevents non opers or non U:Lined services from using specified nicknames. If the attacker had lilo's oper pass, then the attacker could easilly then change their nick to "NickServ", thus facilitating the compromise.

I think a better way to deal with flash is to use the FlashBlocker plugin for Firefox
All flash-based ads get replaced with a placeholder and a little play button, then you get to selectively enable the ones which you require - http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

    B) We are supposed to trust MS that this thing is only asking MS if it needs to be shut off? What the hell kind of reason is that to phone home? Don't forget however, there may be some 'innocent' buffer overflows in there that could facilitate a lot more than simple on/off functionality on Microsoft's part.

They don't need to do that, yet. Other people (motivated by money) do that job perfectly well for them already. All they need to do is simply convince people that their product is a must for survival on the internet.
