On February 5, 2014, Slashdot announced through a javascript popup that they are starting to "move in to" the new Slashdot Beta design. Slashdot Beta is a trend-following attempt to give Slashdot a fresh look, an approach that has led to less space for text and an abandonment of the traditional Slashdot look. Much worse than that, Slashdot Beta fundamentally breaks the classic Slashdot discussion and moderation system.

We should boycott stories and only discuss the abomination that is Slashdot Beta until Dice abandons the project.
We should boycott slashdot entirely during the week of Feb 10 to Feb 17 as part of the wider slashcott

Moderators - only spend mod points on comments that discuss Beta
    Commentors - only discuss Beta

Keep this up for a few days and we may finally get the PHBs attention.

This is the trend that we see lately in the main stream software design, dumping down of everything around us for our own good.

There is no question that beta suck, space utilization on the new site is horrible, why leave so much empty space on the right side? Why are those buttons on the top so huge? My grandma definitely will not visit ./ so what gives? Your old icons are cool, beta looks like all the other sites up there.

Also its just flat, did I say FLAT

This beta could be compared to Windows 8 its the same thinking. No one needs those UI changes (from user point of view) but someone decides that this is the ways it will be now.

The good think is we have options and this will be opportunity for someone who is creative.

I just have to post, you are saying that MAC is slow, I'm on it since past few years and not just one machine but many and you know what I will take this slower car in no time, why because this car maintenance is ZERO so now I have question, what do you prefer a car that will run from 0 to 60 in 3 sec but this car is only good for one run, after that you have to replace engine, or a car that will do from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds?

This is not the point, did you ever run Windows for a long time, lets say a month? After running for some time without reboot you will start getting weird and creasy errors, have five IE windows open then dont touch them for a week or two, then open new IE window... it will take forever to open and display it, here we are talking about light use of the OS but if you move to rendering and video, good luck - but hey, everyone has a choice, right?
