This chip was payd by the Navy, so it will be used for military purposes, and i can imagine a whole bunch of situations where such a device would be usefull.
Yep, some of them joined the underground and battled the Nazis. A lot of them also collaborated with the Nazis, deporting Jews to concentration camps. The French Secret Police (Milice Française) were actually more feared than the Gestapo in France at that time.
actually japanese people in america were deported to concentration camps too after pearl harbor, so in every country existed negative actions.
Two times, actually. Once in 1917, and again in 1944. The Americans almost singlehandedly (read: $$$) re-built France after WWII (especially the French wine industry), and then proceeded to protect France for 50 years.
the americans entered officialy the war in 1917, but they had not fought any battle until 1918, when the result was almost decided.
The Americans also pulled France's ass out of the Viet Nam fire.
the french pulled out in vietnam in 1954. the americans intervened several years later. and they got their butt kicked. this makes me wonder: the americans could'n defeat vietnam, a relatively poor country with limited resources (however it's true that they received soviet and chinese help), so could they really win ww2 without russia, against such a powerfull country like germany?
no, not a full set of 1000$ pieces costs 32$ more, but each processor from those 1000 costs 32$ more.
so a full fx-60 set would be 1031000$ and the intel one 999000$, so the difference betwenn 1000$ pieces sets would be 32000$
It's the only reason Intel why is changing its branding and marketing slogan. Had the thing worked out, there would be no change. But there are several years of AMD leadership in x86(_64) processors, and the new Intel processors don't seem to stand the Opterons or the Athlon64's, so they have to break it with the past and bring something completely new on the market.
Now it's clear that YOU missed my point! I didn't affirmed that the US was a socialist economy at any point of it's history!
Let me repeat a fragment of my post:
"what was the unemployment rate in the 1920s and the early 1930s again? Was America at that time socialist?"
Now that is what i call a rethoric question, with an obvius answer(that would be NO).
It wood be in contradiction with the subject of my post if I would say that "In the 1920s the US had a huge unemployment rate, so the US were a socialist country back in the 1920s", wouldn't it?
That's exactly my point. If you are a socialist country you don't have to have high unemployment rate and if you have a high unemployment rate it deosn't necessarly mean you're a socialist country.
Actually the European Union is the world biggest market. Germany alone is the world biggest exporter. Add France, Spain, Italy and UK to that.
Yes, the US could unleash a nuclear attack on Europe and flatten it. That cowboy attitude is a particular strong reason to build up a free nav sys. Galileo wouldn't be controlled solely by the European Union, but by a private consortium.
and...why the heck not should Europe build it's own nav sys? It's a free world and Galileo doesn't hurt anyone! Did the Americans ask somebody when they invaded Iraq, Vietnam, Afghanistan?
... and it's the first place i search for something i want to know more about. But i find it hard to imagine how an encyclopedia written by specialists only, like britannica could, have more errors in square page than wikipedia.
It's the biggest goof I ever seen on/.
Europe has 450 MILLION citizens, that's 4.5*10^8, roughly half of an American billion. Or the editors mean a French billion ?! Now we're speaking big numbers!
Let's call 10^9 a milliard, to avoid all the confusion, shall we?:P
... I would say that the freedom of different opinion, sexual preferences and tastes is much better understood in Europe than it is in the US. US did approve some laws to limit the freedoms of its citizens because of terrorism, a similar project was rejected in the European Parliament some days ago. I would mention that same-sex marriages are already allowed in several European countries, such as Spain and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands even marijuana is legal! I would say Europeans are more open-minded than Americans.
Control over the Internet should be passed to an international body, such as the United Nations.
actually intel processors are known to consume *lots* of power for quite a time now, so it is no wonder that the new Xeons don't perform better.
I wonder how intel could drop the new Xeon on the market. It will be a huge blow for them.
a Beowulf cluster of these mobos!
romania had a right-wing government in 1996-2000, and from 2004 until now.
what about IBM DB2?
... collect some money to buy Hans a laptop in prison :P
you should look at the INQUIRER, they had this news several days ago!
there are a couple of architectures to count in for those 74%

NEXT!
what was the unemployment rate in the 1920s and the early 1930s again? Was America at that time socialist?
Actually these figures change over time and it may happen in, say 2025, that America's unemployment rate rise to 30% and Europe's shrink to 2%

take a look at this link http://europa.eu.int/comm/dgs/energy_transport/gal ileo/intro/viability_en.htm
It states tha Galileo costs the same as 150km highway. That's really not expensive!
there are no chairs to throw with, like @M$
The link given in the article states that "other browsers were invited". Other borwsers that come right now in my mind are Safari and Links :P

Did Sony include their rootkit too?
Now that's what a call a "cowboy-culture" point of view.

of course! Micro$oft is one of the sponsors. And we should consider the /. effect too

can't imagine me watching videos on such a tiny screen
