    Well, I did some quick (and cheap) work with some cotton string, and I've (securely) strung the drives in 5 3/4" bays They're down to about 50C each, and I have the bay cover above them off to let the hot air exit the case.

    Not ony did it cool the drives down, but it also cut down on noise.

    My Samsung 300GB Drives (in Redundant raid mode) hit 70C at some times (like a simple NTFS defrag)... hot enough to cook an egg. So can these 500GB drives make toast if I slide some bread in the 3.5" bay between them?

    Now I just need a watercooling kit to make my coffee in...

    Lucky You. I may be in the coverage area for a 6MBit/384Kbit DSL Line... if I'm lucky. The cable modem sevice around here is disgustingly unreliable, so I'm pretty much stuck with DSL. Windstream's Acceptable Use Policy nor their terms and conditions say anything about maximim data transfer. Which is good, because I'm big into the bittorrent.

    How about DVD9 + $CODEC? It's cheap, proven, and already availible on the market. Not to mention, improvements could be made with code updates to players.

    1) Buy Bunches of Dual Layer DVDs, 8-Processor Motherbord and 8 Dual-core processors (And other stuff)
    2) Restore Movies from Film onto RAW avi in 1080p
    3) Transcode into $CODEC
    4) Burn transcoded video to Disk as Data
    5) Build DVD player with HDMI port
    6) ???
    7) PROFIT!

    I think the shuttle program should be scrapped, the ISS completed with Japanese and Russian spacecraft, and our engineers should spend some time around Baikonur, and the First re-launch (around 2015) of a US craft should be to set up basic life support for a manned mission to mars.

    You'd need to keep a lot of encrypted garbage data on the drive for that to work.

    With PB of storage redundancy will be needed. maybe you could try to make your own version of Google's distributed redundant FS and run it on a bunch of cheap machines? (like google does)
