Ha! tolkein's compleity is the reason I could never real those stupid books. the guy had a great story to tell, but he told it with the same enthusiasm that snails reserve for sex. He was just as fond of the curl of an elvish R sound or the history of a rock that gimlii sat on as he was with his plot and that was the problem. Jackson turned really droning nearly endless books into a viable story and I commend him for it.
it's not that bad. he has the veto stamp, but they have the subpeona magic, which is powqerful mojo indeed. If Bush gets to veto happy they'll just start doing real oversight, something he clearly can't stand up to without impeachment.
Depends. Certainly not windows.
If we're talking about a well structured linu machine running pretty software, then probably that. if we're talking out of the box KDE? probably the mac.
And useability bitchers out there are a joke. They all work the same (ok, windows is less useable than the other two, but those two work the same). the useability is a nonissue because even a crappy and difficult system will stay in use if people know how to use it. they like what they know.
The supply does not dwindle. What dwindles is the readily available oil. the oil that's easy to get and refine. Refining is the ultimate problem.
We can GET all the oil we want. But unless we can refine it we can't use it. As it hgets hard to get at it and refine it the price goes up just as you say. eventually oil will be too expensive to excuse using it as a source of fuel and then it'll all go another route.
In ten years most people won't have an operating system period. Why would they? Even now you can do anyhting that you cna do on your home OS on the net. Email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, calculations, photo storage, watch movies, etc.
The only thing you really can't do is install software, but once we get away from the need to do that (and we will) we'll be set. the only people that will have home systems are hardcore elite gamers and IT pros (and the etremely paranoid).
Right. Except of course that this hasn't been heppening for ages.
There were scattered incidents of people claiming hijiinks for years, of course, but the last two presidential elections are the first where people really suspected voter fraud on a national level. Think hard. Nobody said Reagan stole hte election. Not like this. Nobody said Clinton's people faked the vote. This is a first. it really is.
Wait . . . I'm confused. Are we being told that sending IT jobs overseas somehow means less jobs for us in the US? I call shenanegins! Clearly this is not true.
Sending jobs overseas makes more jobs in hte US in the same way that taking out huge loans from China is good for our economy.
Seriously. Haven't you ever loaned a neigbor your last 2 eggs only to turn around and find that your fridge is stuffed full of eggs?
No?
Huh. I could have sworn . . .
Don't be insipid. We just passed legislation here proving that we have every intention of outright ignoring the geneva convention. We are really NOT far better than other countries. We are better than some countries, but most civilized nations are whooping us on moral issues. When was the last time you heard about canada's prime minister refusing to say he won't water board people?
umm. . . no. he's right. Our economy blows hard.
Gas prices fell because we're close to an election year and it's in hte best interest of hte oil companies to make people forget gas prices were ever above three dollars here.
The bottom line regarding China is that any country with something like ten times our population is going to eventually produce better scneitists and better material. By virtue of nothing but the infinite monkeys theory.
The problem with that logic is that the problem is worse in windows. if windows doesn't support your hardware correctly, you don't even HAVE the option of going to the community because there really isn't one. You can go to MS tech support and wait a year. I've never had a linux problem that lasted longer than a week and most are fixed in the same day, sometimes minutes. And all the technical know how it takes is the ability to read (though more is helpful).
People talk about going to the command line like it's of the devil, but I can't see why it's that bad. open program and type what you're told to type. Sure, if you learn more you can be much more proficient, but most help forums and users will give you a command-by-command walkthrough if you need it.
They do. There are plenty of places you can buy linux preinstalled. it's just not the majority that windows is due to pervasiveness or mac due to hardware issues.
I love when people whine about how hard linux is to install. they'll say, "Windows was never this hard to install" as if they have ever installed windows. As a systems Admin who has done many windows installs on work machones and my own home machine, let me clarrify that I've had better success loading linux than windows across teh board. Almost every windows install i've ever done has needed to be redone at least one. it's just ugly. And it's not going ot get any better because they lack a reason ot improve it, since most computers come with windows in them already.
Let's be fair. You get teh same end result car either way.
It's just that the linux way gives you the same car in half the time and allows you to decide what color it is without special software.
Moron.
Repeat after me. here's how you install linux.
Insert CD. Hit enter till it loads.
For 95% of all modern instalations, that's it. Installing windows is more complicated than this, I swear. It's just that most people never install windows.
Also, here's how integrating my ipod worked in ubuntu:
connect iPod.
ta-da.
umm . . . microsoft is NOT reinventing the wheel here.
Microsoft is rather like a small child with a chemistry set here, who just discovered that baking soda and vinegar don't mix and they're trying to come up with a way to use it to power a car. not only does this not resemble reinventing the wheel, but it's barely a scrape foreward. Vista almost catches up to where other perating systems have been for quite a while. it's only origional if you've never been outside their garage.
Do your research. I will admit that most places in hte US are above third world standards, but we do have 3rd world living right here in our own nation.
Ahh, i can feel the patriotism swelling in me. It should be our motto.
"The USA: not quite as bad as some other crappy places"
It'll do, for now. It's not going to be true much longer,Ithink, but I guess it'll work. But perhaps it falls into the trap of assuming that the USA is three places. What we should say is this:
"The USA: New York, Chicago, and LA are pretty cool"
or perhaps:
"The USA: just stay away from West Virginia"
There are plenty of places in the USA that are third world level. What you don't see on the WB is plenty big. Maybe our real new motto should be:
"The USA: maybe it's time we started learning some crap from everyone else"

That, like most other things that people think is John Cleese, is NOT john Cleese.
It was Alan Baxter of Rochester, U.K. It was penned after the 2000 presidential election and grew from there by the wonders of teh intarwebs.

I play WoW. It runs better under ubuntu than it did natively in Windows. I'm just sayin'.

New Rule: Using the word "Ruskies" totally invalidates anyhting you say in a post.

Who cares? What's the total number of people an average person interacts with in their lifetime? Here's a hint. Less than play WoW.
Huh. Gmail automatically blocks images for me, unless I ask for them. Might want to check your defaults.

only thing faster: Chuck Norris's fists.

I get about one of these per day on gmail. Not too bad, and they've been slowing down.

Welcome to the United States of China.

Of course we will never need more than 8 cores!
In exactly the same way that the world market has room for maybe five computers.
