How hard is this? The internet is a collection of connected computers. the "tubes" are irrelevant. My network cable is not the internet. My computer, however, is part of it.
The fact that I can read doesn't mean that most people in America can read well. Most read poorly if at all and a good lot can't read.
The fact that I can write doesn't mean most people can. In fact, I find that most other people write like grade schoolers only with more spelling and grammar errors.
The fact that I can do mathematics doesn't mean most people can. Hell, most Americans can add and sometimes subtract. They have to stop and think hard about basic multiplication and could not even perform division without a calculator if they had to.
I have a job that is not menial in nature. Most people do not. However, that's not a valid point because statistically speaking, most jobs are menial in nature because we need bodies to fill the positions. Demand creates those jobs, so the state of our education has zero to do with it. Most people will always have menial jobs period.
I have a decent understanding of the world outside my state. Most americans really don't. Most americans can't point out more than ten states on an unlabeled map and could point out maybe 4 other nations. Compare that to any other civilized country.
My parents were able to work while I was growing up, but that qualifier is irrelevant because it relegated public education to free babysitting.
The fact is that most americans are less educated than the average citizen of many other useful and productive companies. The fact that we can get some benefit from our educational system doesn't mean it's good enough. It just means that it's not totally worthless. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
umm . . . correct me if I'm wrong here, but how exactly is this going ot control internet radio? The internet isn't housed in the USA. If you were an internet radio company, would you not just move your office to a sane country and continue as before?
If given the choice, I'll take the far left over the far right any day. It may not be more reasonable, but less people die. I'll stand by that as a measure of success.
Here's the thing. Kucinich really is a decent guy. if he didn't look like a rodent, I'd say he's our guy all the way, but alericans can't elect a pygmi to office. Sure, a monkey looking doofus like Bush, but not kusinich.
I really think he's actually doing this for all the right reasons. Because he's afraid that the president(s) will goto war with Iran just as they did with iraq unless something is done. And he knows that there are still republicans of good conscience, though they are few.
Also, bear in mind that even if he can't convict Cheny on this count, the vice president WILL perjure himself. And then there will be fun obstruction of justice charges.
It was good enough to nickle and dime al capone. You do what you can in the end.
What the hell kind of free press does MS need? Anyone out there not using windows because they've never heard of it? What a really dumb thing to say. Free press does you no good if you're the market default.
It wasn't ok when they did it either. And modern democrats will tell you as much. However bear in mind that a) neither of them did ALL those things and b) I would hardley say that johnson was in line with modern democratic thought. Political parties change over time, certainly.
Bah. There is NO excuse for not having internet access. Everyone (EVERYONE) lives within an easy commute of a place that has free internet access for them even if they are too dense to come by a computer on their own (and considering there are charities that GIVE you computers, I'd say it's more a lack of motivation). Find me one person that can't get internet access for an hour a week.
In this case: agreed, though I'm not sure I'd call this hippie bill hard left. I think it's probably something the right wing likes very much because it will make them money.
I think it is. Linux geeks have a powerful love for Ubuntu (I know, being one myself). Personally, i think ubuntu is the best shot Linux has at the desktop market in any way. It's easier to set up and run that any windows and doesn't lack any features. As long as you're willing to actually USE the internet and look for answers to your questions, you're in luck. And to be fair, technical support in ubuntu (at the publuc forums) is vastly superior to windows tech support (I admin both OS's and linux is easier to get help with by far). So there's a reason for the ubuntu love, certainly. But with Vista just out, any new linux dostro story is bound to spark flames.
a) they're robbing microsoft, who is, in turn, robbing US of money. I'll call this fair. b) they can't even be said to be robbing our country. We owe China trillions of dollars. This is like saying that the bank is robbing you when they charge overdraft. When you owe someone trillions of dollars, anything they want of yours is pretty much theirs. They already paid for it. c) Vista is not worth the money it took to burn it to disk. A two hundred dollar place of chicken squirt is still worthless, no matter what the price tag says.
a) As a systems administrator I'm certainly not a newb. While most of what I run is *nix oriented, I also run a few windows servers and many desktops.
b) I think Vista is a crappy OS that was pushed off the shelf too early because MS was unwilling ot fix it's kernel. The very core behind their OS is worthless. XP covered up for this nicely. Vista does not.
c) every computer from now on will not be preinstalled. I haven't purchased a preinstalled OS in years and most people who are serious about buying a great computer (ie video gamers) build their own systems with their own hardware. Only home users who could just as easily still be using windows 2000 and never notice the difference buy off the shelf.
c.1) PS: here's how you tell you have a crappy OS. You have to buy it preinstalled. If it only works on one set of hardware, it's not really a commercial operating system so much as embedded software.
d) your experience is clearly not representative of the norm based on every review. Good for you, but to assume that your experience disproves every review is arrogant to the extreme.
Actually, I think the film had a lot of depth, but ignoring that, it was vastly better than star wars. The first 3 star wars movies were basically poorly acted and written on almost all counts, and the story was wildly unoriginal, even for the time.
And all these years later, I watch the first three star wars movies and while they aren't good, they are still twice as good as the second 3 star wars movies.
Serenity is just a good sci-fi movie. One of the greatest ever made? Yes, actually. But should we get a battlestar gallactica movie, don't count on it holding onto that title.
Agreed. Aero is not vista, but MS never really mentioned that in their advertising, did they? As far as the public knew Aero did not exist. it was all just "vista". I actually concur with the article. I think this case has merit. Not just because I want to see MS go down, but also because I'm sick of bait and switch advertising in technology. I also want to see someone sue a video game company for advertising a game showing all cut scenes with no real gameplay. I hate that.
Are you serious?
To begin with, sudo means that you can have the luxuries of a root account without the inherent danger of being root. I don't need to open a command line and su to root to run a root command. I can sudo it and be done.
I also don't have to remember multiple passwords. That's a big bonus for some.
Also, sudo means that a script kiddie hack that try to hack your root password don't do a thing on a sudo system. Maybe that's the least impressive reason to use sudo, but I like it.
Also, using sudo you can give specific users higher access without giving them everything. They can add and remove users, for example, but not modify the root filesystem (or whatever you grant in the sudo config file).
Sudo has a LOT of advantages. And of course you're entering your password. You're the one running the command. Whose password would you use?
Electronic voting certainly CAN work and it can work well, but not in the way diebold was doing it. Open source security conscious verifiable voting is easier than you might think and certainly our best bet, though until we are sure we have it, paper voting is my choice. Check out the open voting consortium for really useful information.
There were several valid financial reasons that the market took a dive.
But chief among them was that it was doing too well for the computers to handle?
Don't they realize how contrary that sounds?
I suspect they mean, "What the dumbest people use."
Basically, indistry standard must nessisarily play to the least common denominator. If 50% of the people are using word formats and they couldn't find the save as button with both hands and a screenshot, then the industry is forced to use word even ifit sucks, because the alternative is shutting down that industry.

I wonder if you said the same thing about Windows ME.
If given the choice, I'll take the far left over the far right any day. It may not be more reasonable, but less people die. I'll stand by that as a measure of success.

It was a fictional movie, mouth breather.
It wasn't ok when they did it either. And modern democrats will tell you as much. However bear in mind that a) neither of them did ALL those things and b) I would hardley say that johnson was in line with modern democratic thought. Political parties change over time, certainly.
Wait! Is he suggesting that unstable software might have bugs in it? Holy crapses! This changes everything!

Clearly they think the too highly of their own power.
Soft link is pretty common, though symbolic link or symlink has become more common lately.
I suspect they mean, "What the dumbest people use."

It's funny how stupid the first claim seems till you read the below figures.
I guess being paranoid pays off sometimes. You only have ot be right once to make all the tin foil worth while.
