Plus they have projectors that cost way more than your car. they are WAY WAY out of your league.
And I'm supposed to feel sorry for them in what way? BTW, I drive a US $30,000 car. If you can afford one piece of home theater equipment worth over 30K, you can afford a $1000 BD player and in fact, probably already have unless you have a death wish for a certain company.
Damn, I'd totally trade this craptastic movie (Talladega Nights) for Casino Royale. Why couldn't I have lived in Europe where Nascar is not considered popular!
So your choice is to buy a Blu-Ray player that will display the movie in Native 1080P ($500-1000) or buy an expensive line doubler ($300-5000), an expensive DVD player ($150-200+... we don't want cheap!) and upscale all your DVDs to get near to the quality you can get out of one device for alot less?
Yeah, off topic, I know. But seriously, can we consolidate the "Yes" and "No" tag to one simple, "Yes/No". Every time I see one the other is nearby... stalking and waiting to pounce.
Back on topic,
Does anyone seriously have any idea on how to get developers on OpenGL/Linux? I'm crying here at so many missed opportunities to get games on Linux! Are we so ingrained to DirectX that nobody is willing to change directions? Would Linux people pay money for games published in Linux or are there those that think everything that touches their OS be henpecked by hundreds of developers in some open source orgy?
According to the Folding Team, you divide that in half since the results for the GPU need to be calculated at least twice to verify since the precision of the GPU is much less.
Which makes sense since most video cards are not made for precision...right? I mean, how many people are going to be pissed that one pixel on the screen is.0006 pixels more to the right than it should be because the card didn't track enough decimal places in a floating point operation.
Which makes me wonder why people don't use UTC dates for build versions... It's much easier to determine if you have an updated version if you look at the version 2007.03.23 and can tell it's from today. You can compare your video card drivers to the OS and say, hey, these are both 2007.02 builds. Maybe there's an update! (Clicks "Check for Update" button) You can then put a B or X in front of the version to signify Beta or eXperimental build and require a EULA of sorts if the user decided to try these builds. If you need more visibility on versions, use extended version and add on the UTC time in hh.MM.ss format.
Everyone knows how to read time (at least I hope they do) and formatting it to a version format really wouldn't be that hard to read. The hardest part is determining when the source is tagged with that build revision. You can't do it on compile since some people prefer to "roll their own."
That's been my problem with most Linux apps when they say they want to steal Windows users. Windows users don't know what a command prompt is and never want to see one. You need to provide the buttons/actions/sequences to try to recover from these situations. If you don't want to clutter up the interface run the command when the error happens if you know the command is "safe". Instead, you force the user to the command prompt or a support forum. That is too much work for most people. Code in circumstances to account for endless loops, setup a process to recover instead of adding new features. Then again, I'm from the school that wants to make things work before giving it to the marketing group.
I have a friend that sends out group emails and two of us never get these emails. We are both on Gmail and I almost laughed when Gmail Support asked me to have him get header info from those emails. (Spam filters were not getting these emails either and I've tried adding him to a filter) People don't want to do extra work like this. In his mind, he never got a response from the server and the rest of the people got the email. It's not his problem. Period. There are a lot of people like this.
It just says (in a not so elegant fashion) "Your program crashed. Click here to send us your crash info and restart your program. Thank you for using Windows!"
The fact that I'm on Slashdot doesn't immediately classify me as insecure about approaching a woman. When you find me a woman that isn't overweight and takes care of herself (call me an ass if you will, I don't care), doesn't believe in "God", and could cares less about Valentine's day, then I'll walk up to her and ask her if she wants to grab a bite to eat somewhere. I don't have a problem walking up to them. The problem I have is finding a person that fits in my belief structure and doesn't try to push herself off as a Queen Sheba and a necessity for all mankind. I've been asked several times why I don't have steady girlfriends and those are the reasons I give. Most people think I'm being too strict in my search.
For now, I choose single life over living a lie. Berate me and someone else for having that view if you want, but understand that we all have choices in life. If it doesn't fit in your "norm" it doesn't make it wrong. I grew up with very little access to porn, but over the past 10 years I've seen more than I can remember, or care to. Do I freak out if an advertisement shows something more than might be needed to sell a product? Not at all.
Sorry for the rant, but I believe that if you think your kids might have seen something you don't approve of, it might be time to sit them down and talk about it. I know my parents did. It was probably the most uncomfortable talk of my life, but eventually we came to an acceptance. Parents "using" toys to babysit their kids bugs the hell out of me. I don't have kids, but I guarantee that my life would change 360 degrees to raise them well. "Net-Nanny" parents aren't raising their children. They are growing them.
The whole market for consoles is based on a single device that you plug in, stick your game in and play it. Not looking on the back of the box and checking what version of console you have. If you ask me, it's a crappy move. Not as bad as having one with, and one without, a hard drive but it's still pretty crappy. The DS/Lite, NES (and it's revisions) and the PS2/Slim all had the same connections, accepted the same games and worked exactly the same (with minor improvements in the case of the Lite) but nothing that would alienate someone that had a previous version of the console.
I can see it now:
"Oh, your console doesn't have the HDMI output on it and a 65nm core? Well, that's a shame cause this game requires it. It pushes the processor more and it's almost guaranteed to lock up the old chips. Sorry for the inconvenience. Here's a bill for your repair cost."
Are you serious? This is something I didn't know about. I assume HD DVD is available in Japan/US? Where else? This makes me wonder why anyone supports HD DVD at all... (except maybe Sony hate?)
That's all they have going for them. The motherboard pictured is an off the shelf Asus board. I have it in my PC at home. I'm sure all the rest of the parts are available on NewEgg minus the case.
I have a Model 80 somewhere in storage. The thing weighs a ton. Sure you could carry it with one hand, but your going to be damn tired and your leg is going to be pretty beat up. It was a pretty cool case to check out if you get a chance. Air flow "tubes" inside and everything.
Not exactly as groundbreaking as your suggestion, but I still have no clue why an operating system aborts my entire copy procedure if one file fails to because of one reason or another. And why don't we have background copy? You drag 50 files to a directory and while the OS is asking you if you want to overwrite one of those 50 files it could be writing those that will copy without problem in the background queuing up the dialog boxes for the 5 other files that might exist.
The point behind providing a GUI reaches beyond "power". If Linux can provide a clean, quick, and meaningful interface for the "normal" user and still maintain the power under the hood, then Linux will be king. Keep the tech people happy with all the things they can do behind the scenes and keep the people that just want to read email, send photos and play pogo games happy. That's what needs to be done here to bring Microsoft back down from the throne. To use the obligatory car analogy, asking a "normal" user to open a terminal is like asking them to pull the intake manifold off their car and put a new gasket on. Some people don't want to be concerned with how it works, how to take it apart or what it looks like under there. They just want their car to take them to work and back in the most reliable manner possible. There will be the tech geeks who know how to get an extra 50HP out of their car by going under the hood, but most people don't care about that.

Makes total sense! Why didn't I think of it?
...and it's a bitch to get her to play games! (unfortunately)
We've met? I've never dated you! (I don't think...ever been to Ohio?)
Yeah, off topic, I know. But seriously, can we consolidate the "Yes" and "No" tag to one simple, "Yes/No". Every time I see one the other is nearby... stalking and waiting to pounce.

Consider me clueless, but other than page hits, how do you become number 1 on distrowatch?

..then it won't sell in a small part of the world. "Net Nanny" PCs make up so very little of the internet traffic that it's not even funny.
Just because some people are louder doesn't mean more people are standing behind them.
That's interesting. If you connect to the PSP Network, you can actually filter games based on "Adult Only" status.

Duh...Blu is the new Black. Everything new is coming in a form of "Blu".
