I think that other sites may be more careful and attempt to at least appear to follow COPPA, but that truly little will change. As will all age-laws, they are not entirely comprehensive as many under-13 year olds are much more intelligent/mature than others.
The dust is certainly interesting to study, but I should say the ion propulsion engine on board is also a very interesting development. Maybe further development/use of this engine will lead to faster/more frequent/lower-cost space missions than now.
Good thing NASA is slating ion propulsion for future unmanned missions... it would be interesting if Orion (or whatever that thing is called) can use ion propulsion once it clears Earth's gravitational force.
Any calendar site can be exploited in this way. As with many aspects of computer usage, user intelligence (posting info w/discretion) and proper privacy settings (think Facebook here) is all that's necessary.
I say this is a non-issue, especially for hopefully more-intelligent/. nerds.
Are you sure it is just going to be an increase of 2%? I'm quite sure that iPod generation is much greater only 2% of the market.
As has been said earlier, the fact that Linux is of such high quality compared to Windows (I don't know about Macs) makes it worthwhile that more people know about it, not just geeks like us Slashdot readers, but Joe Sixpack or even intellectuals who may not be very adept at using computers but are knowledgable in other areas such as science or literature. This can only produce greater benefit for society as a whole, which I think does not run contrary to the spirit of the GPL (correct me if I'm wrong).
Of course the compromise should not in any way affect the spirit of open source, because then we would lose all that we would have fought for. I certainly think that Raymond makes a good point here.
It's interesting how I keep getting reports of factory workers being constantly over-worked in China. It's a good idea to make sure laborers have enough rest, but as a [former] Chinese national and one of full Chinese ethnicity, I should say that the work ethic there is so strong relative to many North American and European countries that this is more of a non-issue.
I don't know, but have Slashdotters heard much about "Asian parents"? As a high-schooler, that concept is one of the most frequently repeated ones in my [predominantly Asian] high school.
One last point is that this article is ridiculously late, but that's to be expected.
I haven't tried ThinkFree Office, but I have tried Zoho and I agree. However, this new online "concept," rather than any individual application, is what mainly is interesting.
I find these new AJAX applications to be very interesting. While I don't think they can overcome the market share of MS Office in the near future, they're very portable on that library computer without a word processor installed.
I'm not sure why you weren't able to renew at $15/month. My friend's 12 month offer just expired last month, and all his parents did was to call the guy at Pacbell "hey our contract is about to expire can you renew it", and they got it renewed at $15/month. Maybe it depends on the kindness of the customer service agent?
Because the concentration of the oxygen is significantly greater 2 minutes into flight at high altitudes relative to the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere.
My AP biology teacher constantly tells us to not fabricate data on lab exercises even if the current data doesn't make sense and then shows us a bunch of articles about fired scientists. Guess he has a point here; it generally stalls your career for 10-15 years and may even end it.

That's not quite that bad ... in China you work on Saturdays as well as part of Sundays ...

welcome our new flash drive overlords.

Hopefully this might provide more public incentive in terms of supporting conservation efforts.
True, DNA comes in fours nucleotides, but codons are read in nucleotide triplets by RNA transcriptase, so it'll still be a GCC backend.
