First of all, I think the use of BSoD is just a metaphor for buginess. Second of all, I don't believe any MS fanboys who claim that Win2k/XP simply never crashes. Just because it (doubtfully) never happened to you doesn't mean it hasn't happened to the millions of other people who claim it has.
You are not a superhero system admin who has some magical ability to keep any computer you come in contact with completely crash/error free.
Between the hardware requirements and lack of compelling features, I think Microsoft is gonna find an even slower adoption rate of Vista overseas when it finally launches.
The Adaptive Path web consultancy is making good progress in spreading the "AJAX" meme. Please do not give them indirect credit for "creating" something that has been around for a while just because they came up with a freakin' buzzword. What is this, the 90's? This just reeks of a marketing strategy...so typical of consultants.
(This is a repeat post...I hate it when this term gets greenlighted by Slashdot admins. It's almost as if they're paid to promote Adaptive Paths concepts.)
If that's the case then why is every freakin' "smartphone" that has been announced recently running Windows Mobile? (Other than Nokias, of course.) For example: HTC Universal, Audiovox SMT 5600, HP HW6500, Samsung SGH-i300 and i730, Orange C550...
I own an SE P900, and I love Symbian UIQ. But I'm losing hope that anyone will use the recently announced new version. I've had this phone for over 18 months...which is pretty much longer than I've consistently used any other mobile device...but it's terribly old in the tech department. The P910 was a minor upgrade and certainly not worth the cost for me. I would gladly upgrade to another Symbian phone, but nothing does it for me. The Nokia 7710 is a freakin' trainwreck, and the 9xxx series is too pricey and too big. I guess I'm holding out for a P-series update, but it seems that SonyEricsson is too focused on releasing crappy "music phones". Ugh.

Why do tech writers feel the narcissistic need to display photos of themselves next to their writings? That is probably the largest photo I've ever seen on one of these articles...and it's an awful photo at that. They obviously cut the baldness of his head off for a reason, and half the photo is of his black on black outfit.
Their whole site reeks of late 90's marketspeak. Slightly interesting article, though.
Ever since I switched to a Mac, I tell my friends & family I don't do PC support anymore, even though I'm fully capable. I am more than willing to do Mac support, though...
What do you expect when the carriers subsidize the cost of your phone?
Perhaps if we had the option to pay less just for the services we want, without giving up our ability to choose any carrier we want, it would balance the slight increases to the cost of the handsets? We'd have more choice, more competition, and more innovation.
I feel bad for Tivo owners. I love my ReplayTV 5000. It skips commercials automatically with surprisingly good accuracy. It rarely if ever incorrectly skips content...but sometimes it doesn't realize that a commercial break has begun. In any case, I can just instantly jump forward 30 seconds (or however far I want).
If you have to look at the keyboard, then this whole discussion is moot. Not looking at the keyboard means that if I do make a mistake, I see it instantly and it's a simple matter to backspace a couple of characters rather than having to correct later.
There are times when I'm coding and someone pops their head over to my cubicle and I continue what I'm typing while I converse with them. Well actually, it's more like I listen to what they have to say...trying to talk and type is a bit more difficult, but not impossible. But the point is, I am not looking at the keyboard. So not only is my typing more efficient, I can quasi-do-two-things-at-once. So there!
I call shenanigans. I don't see how using two fingers on a standard keyboard could ever be faster and more accurate than using ten. Your 80wpm...is there any kind of accuracy metric to provide along with that?
I've said it before and I'll say it again...the most useful "elective" course I took in high school was touch typing. (It also included "Word Processing", but that term in 1990 meant something different than what it does today.) A reading-specific class (included speed-reading exercises) is a close second.
Maybe I can use this to track down the scumbags who send junk faxes to me at all hours of the night and morning, but whose numbers are listed only as "Out of Area". In fact, I bet this would be a handy tool for those who are trying to stop these asshats.
I installed the app on my P900 (28kb), but when I try to run it I just get a "Folder Not Found" error. And now when I try to uninstall it, I get a "There is insufficient memory available for the specified installation." This after a phone reboot. Ah, Symbian...
Oh man, you are SO right. The script was a pain in the ass to write, let me tell you. But you can install an OSA to use Javascript instead of AppleScript. It's at least marginally better.
Keep in mind that you have to have PlayFair installed in "/usr/local/bin/". I'm not sure, but you also may need to add the leading slash to "usr/" to make it "/usr/" on the line:

Here's a good comment from the original slashdot "ajax" discussion that sums it up

Haven't we seen these before? iOpener anyone?

Man those Hush machines look nice, but their English website is just awful. Anyone using one of those for a MythTV box? Thoughts?

Tivo is the AOL of PVR's.
Who the hell uses MSN? I don't know anyone on MSN. Thank God, too, because that IM client is even worse than AOL's.

Can't I live while I'm young?
Heh. That shut him up, eh? Rock on, Roland.
I often try to operate my P900 with my thumb, but it usually ends up badly. Sometimes it works, though.
Why can't someone come up with a thumb stylus? Kinda like a thumbpick for guitars...

The think I really like about this is the travel bast station aspect. Great for hotels!

P.S. O'Reilly's Applescript book is the shiznit.
Keep in mind that you have to have PlayFair installed in "/usr/local/bin/". I'm not sure, but you also may need to add the leading slash to "usr/" to make it "/usr/" on the line:
do shell script "usr/local/bin/playfair '" & protectedAACPath & "' '" & freeAACPath & "'"
I could be wrong...it's been working for me without it. Sorry about that. But the script works!
Just use T-mobile in the NYC/tri-state area. You're bound to get garbled sound and dropped calls at some point during the conversation!
Next step...hold music! I would PAY for that on my P900. Doubt it's possible though.
