I might be being a tool, I might be a complete n00b with it, maybe I should STFU... maybe. But if I didn't find it to be an easy alternative when I've got experience with unix-like systems and am not afraid of doing some research (although I admit it was pretty limited) I used to use Linux up until I had to do it for real (i.e. in production and quickly), then I switched to FreeBSD. Why ? Because it's an OS... A real one, not a patchwork of more or less random stuff put together to cater to the pimple squad.
Each distro has it's own particular way of doing thing, there's no consistency between one or another and most of the time you got a couple of gigs of totaly useless stuff.
I recently had to work with Linux, my god, I missed my FreeBSD so bad, there is not a distro that hasn't a major flaw and each time you switch from one to another you pretty much have to start from scratch...
If you ask me, windows or Linux, it's all the same...
I also read that the movie studios are considering delaying the release of movies in Canada to reduce the incidences of movies hitting BitTorrent before they hit the theaters. Please, oh please, do so. Better yet : do not release them in Canada at all. Then people here will perhaps start to watch real movies with real stories (yes there's a plural form for story, I guess Hollywood never heard of it...) or better read *gasp* books !
Steven Harper has a reputation for being a lap-dog of the US/UK. This has been the case of all Canadian prime minister for the first 6 months to one year of tenure. Then the US presidency publicly fracks him good 2 or 3 times in a row and we go back to the usual "US is bad for us". I think Harper was on the second fracking, that'll be the third... I guess it's time for a certain ambassador to get back home, on foot...
It's not the IT staff it's the manager and the users that doesn't want to switch. Too hard to learn some others habits and you're the only one who get screwed at the end, your job isn't their concern, they don't even think about it when they screw something by being stupid. For them Windows is perfect, it's pretty, there's word, excel and powerpoint on it, they can listen bad music(tm) internet radio with it and most importantly process easyly their photos etc.
The other problem is the attitude of the Linux community, the "get bent, the documentation is in the source code, read it" answer you get each time you dare ask something doesn't suit too well with the non computer literate end-users.
agreed. saying that javascript and dhtml are better because they work across all platforms is like saying anal sex is better as it works across all genders...
Since I'm pretty sure there are no human beings on the planet that can tell the difference between a normal CD and a SACD or DVD-Audio in a blind test
Well, I can, for well mastered SACD made from good "old" analog masters anyway. There's far less emptyness in the sound.
Do not expect your own limitations to be the rule, there's a lot of people that can hear a difference between some generic crap and a good record and there's even more than could be educated to appreciate hidef audio format.
I do think that it's quite the same for the vidéo side of things. The "need" for hidef vidéo format is there, and people WILL see the difference, but the price tag (DRM etc) attached to it is just too much for nearly everybody. I do have a HDTV set, it's not HDCP and I will not buy another one nor will i buy any player that may be locked a few years down the road. yeah Sony, no tags, sure, at least not until the players are sold. They must test their marketing idea on monkeys, oh wait...
The "Free" people of the United States are misinformed and manipulated by their governement and its military.
Q: Well what's new ?
A: Nothing for most of the other "free" peoples.

I cannot even try to imagine the crappy picture you must be getting from that setup. BIG isn't the only goal of a home theater, picture and sound quality are important too you know...

I do not think it will come up again like that soon.
US said NO, good, do you really think that the biggest UN countries or China will leave it at that ? I do not think they'll ask a second time.
I know for a fact that at least France, certainly China too, are looking very hard for solutions to this problem and have taken steps to protect their interests.
We've just witnessed the first little skirmish in what will be a very bloody silent underground war.
Well, I'm learning the electric guitar after playing bass for a long time. THAT is fun !
I'm still a gamer, just an older one whose (is this a word ? - my language isn't english) beeing fed up with repeating the same games over and over. The last game I really enjoyed was Ultima Online, but the devs killed the game bit by bit. SWG wasn't fun at all, eve online was too expensive but strangely enthralling and EQ2 is Sony (do I really need another reason to hate that game ?).
BTW I'm married now so the expenses are times 2, and the game must appeal to my wife, it's not simplifying my problem.
Well another smashing piece of hardware hits the streets, so what ?
The games are still lame. They are much more beautiful than on the previous one sure but what about interest ?
Blasting monsters or whatnot is not my cup of tea (or coffee or mountain dew or whatever), I'm fed up with micromanaging my armada in the 3565654684th copy of the click fest called warcraft and I don't care much to see sprites living their own lives on screen. MMORPG are a bug nightmare and a support pit. So what's left ?
(Answer : another useless shiny box full of top of the line hardware gathering dust somewhere on a shelf)
well Scifi doesn't but someone sure did last season, I got the files to prove it.
In any case, even 480i beat the crap out of 320x200 on a 2" LCD screen...
PS : BTW, BSG was only ONE of the examples I gave.
Well, TV has changed quite a lot these last 2 hundred years you know. Shows like Lost, Battlestar Galactica or the now dead Firefly or Carnivàle are quite a fest for the eyes and cannot be appreciated on a 320x200 screen.
Maybe YOUR television shows doesn't need and HDTV but mine sure does !
ARGHHH that line is starting to piss me off quite a bit... Thinking like that the French should have control over movies and planes and China over all guns and canons...
You're a stupid little american troll, go back to your cave.
Where did I put my finger already ? Come on you know which one...

Shit happens.
who owns the patent on stupidity ?
The merit of COWs is milk and the occasional fucking by the farmer, that's all.
May be I should have posted this one anonymously...
PS : BTW FreeBSD's better than Linux. (Duck).
rePS : I definitively should have posted anonymously.
The other question is : Do we have any choice ?
No kidding, do we ?
