More than you think.
My brothers friends were drinking in a small town casino and got into a beef with a local all were drinking. My brother was coming from 200mi away, sober, and picked them up on his way home, the guy saw the vehicle and called it in as a DUI. He did fine on the roadside but they took him in for a breathalyser. He blew a.03 and a.00, and then, miraculously a.08 and a.20. In CA those aren't even admissible as the machine varied by more than the allowable limit. His lawyer cost him $5k he didn't have and got him to plead because the police (CHP) were "going to lie anyway".
Fast forward 4 years; he DUIs at a wedding in northern California, admits it, bad move, is sorry - now it's a second offence. The DA offered 4mo + 3yr formal probation but realized because he was from SoCal and couldn't meet the norcal probation officers 2x week - not physically possible. DA cut a deal with him for 9mo jail time - no probation. He figured what the hell, *he was going to lose everything anyway*. Because he refused "the system" the judge would not accept the plea and gave him a full year. "Jobs program" - you decide: the guy on the docket before him interfered with an EMT in the performance of his duties, resisted arrest and assaulted a peace officer while he was on meth (the offender not the cop). He took a deal - 30 days but it was a drug offence so he'll do 15 days... I miss my brother.
'problem inherent in open architecture systems,' i.e., 'they are generally licensed with complete use rights and/or functionality that may be beyond the need or desire of the system renter.'
There are some realities geeks are going to have to come to terms with. WE are all fine on Macs, and Linux and we don't even get viruses on the Windows machines we run, so this discussion is not really even about us.
My brother was in a terrible accident two years ago and is recovering from a (now minor) brain injury. He is smart and artistic, but has some challenges. He loves Mac, but on his limited income that wasn't a viable option. He also doesn't have the money for Mac or Widows Apps. He needed a portable computer for the injury rehab school he is attending. Answer: Two weeks ago he bought an Asus EEE1000 and we loaded 9.04 Netbook Remix together. I showed him how to load it, how to load apps, how to update and load stuff from the terminal, he took copious notes.
Last week I got an email that he tried to load an app from the GUI and got an error. He got out his notes, went to the terminal and got it installed.
As a non technical user with a brain injury, he loves Linux on the desktop.
Now, he will screw it up and/or something will not work and I will get a call or have to physically work on the machine. But, as a geek, tell me how that is different than what we have to do for any of our non-tech friends or family on any O.S.? Even windows machines I have pretty well hardened have to be backed up and reloaded now and then due to user actions.
Linux is no more or less difficult for a user than any other O.S. and probably less work for us to friend-admin long term.
I was the machinist for Disney's Imagineering "Advanced Ride Development" for years, and have designed and built many custom devices, vehicles, etc.
New stuff will cost. A lot. Having stuff custom made is even more expensive.
The cheapest stuff will come from a junkyard. Couplers and other stuff are reasonably available from McMaster.com and Granger.com. For smaller stuff try wmberg.com and pic-design.com. They have tons of gears, mechanisms, etc. IIRC one is mostly SAE and one is mostly metric.
Oh, and find a good small machine shop in your area and buddy up to them. Guys love to tinker. If they get interested in your stuff they'll give you a better rate if you need them to turn down the end of an axle for a coupling or whatever.
However, clearing customs you are not in your apartment, and, indeed, not even in the country. They are tasked with deciding who and what gets in, to protect all the citizens still inside the country. Now, they may be doing a crappy job, and they may be going about it completely wrong, but it is an important job. They should just do it right.
It might not exactly be lying, but it's the kind of thing that would really piss a federal judge off!
Your comments are received in the light in which they were offered. However, judges usually having been lawyers, and being stuck all day, every day in a room full of lawyers, are more than likely so jaded they hardly notice...
No, they get the point, and it is way bigger than the copyrighted stuff. They don't want you to be able to choose from all of the content. They want to control what content is available to you. You can choose from *that*.
I use Verizon (with several phones) because I travel over large areas and they have the best coverage for me. I can't say if they are going to open things up as they seem to be saying. However, my father-in-law works on the actual cell equipment for VzW and he told me that they are supposed to roll out a nationwide GSM network. I can't remember the timeframe, but I think it was in the next two years. Don't quote me on that...
I was thinking, working in a culture like that how funny it would be during your review, telling your boss "Well, maybe your pen1s is just a lot smaller than mine..." I mean, you really wouldn't want to work there long term anyway
Funny, I was just going to say "Those have got to be either the title of the latest U2 album, or some crazy pr0n." But as it relates to actual black holes your proposed name is superb...
Or, maybe Iran cut the cables. They hoped it would take long enough to repair to be down through the elections. That way they wouldn't have to come out and tell the world they were going to further oppress their people...
Somewhere in the middle... Disclosure: I am a windows admin. I made a commitment to drop Windows at home after the whole "changing of core files on computers set to no update". I had had it. I was going Linux. NOW. As a full n00b.
I needed:
1) Native Linux wireless/no hassles - There is no cable in my rural area, and I have cell only, no landline. I set up a dd-wrt router in my neighbors house and pay him for bandwidth.
2) It's rural, lots are acres+ so I had to hit the wireless pretty good distance.
3) I wanted a USB adapter so I could move it around for better signal
It's almost a circular argument. Wind and waves are related, the second comes mostly form the first. The dead calm areas at the equator have very little wave action because of a lack of wind action (mostly, not entirely). And as far as sails being less useful into the wind because of tacking, somewhat true. But on a modern sail boat, better than trying to navigate a 5 knot boat against a current. Even if you don't put up a sail wind will still have a large effect on your net progress.
Not that I even disagree, but BTW marriage is a church sacrament that they have the say on. Like most everything else, the Gov. has co-opted it to get their cut of *license fees*... Technically marriage is none of the governments business (just like everything else shouldn't be)

THAT is a Parenting problem, NOT an education problem.
Absolutely, even if they think you are a regular paying customer. One of my regulars took there machine to GeekSquad because I was on vacation.

Fixed that for ya...

I was wondering how they were going to get away with naming it, 9.10 Steve Ballmer doesn't really fit the scheme...
I was thinking Runix, but I think yours are already better.

It's not that I don't agree with your points.

I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention, the first picture is full of MacBooks
"Does Ballmer Need To Go?" With that headline I swear I was preparing myself for the "Excuse me, do you have Ballmer in a can?" jokes.
Why not 11 cores?
14,000 pages? I thought that was their non-disclosure agreement.

Your sig - out of state/ld calls are federally regulated at a lower rate. Local calls are regulated by the state PUC, usually at a higher rate.
Cheers

A little Googleing said that anything with an Atheros chipset would work. A little more found me this awesome Hawking Hi-Gain USB WiFi adapter with an Atheros chipset that worked/WAP right out of the box: http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=32&FamID=60&ProdID=280
