In common with many people who *think* they understand how Natural Selection applies to modern humans, you are completely wrong.
You have described animal behaviour in the sense that animals are "slaves" to their genes. This isn't quite 100% true for humans, as we have this nifty ability called long-term foresight that can (and does) make us behave contrary to the best interest of our genes.
This is not a defense of pacificsm (I do of course have an opinion) - merely an attack on those who would drag in evolutionary thinking to any argument that suits them.
...and if you think that 80 deg. F is not a scorcher in some places, I suggest you try venturing beyond your county boundary at some point in your life.
You have a point, but if you hear someone actually say the I could care less, it's all in the inflection of the phrase. The emphasis is on the care part:
"I could care less"
Compare with:
"I couldn't care less"
In other words, it's sarcastic. See Steven Pinker's the Language Instinct for further insight into this, in the section "The Language Mavens".
Now you're desperate veering into the realms of the ridiculous. If you have a humming, clicky, bright laptop in class it's always going to annoy someone. Pen & paper is one of those sounds that you will filter out automatically as you spent years in Primary/Secondary education and have learned to do that.
The "real world" of education will be better off without people like yourselves who treat higher education as a commodity to be bought & sold (and use inane phrases like "technology" to refer to pencil & paper).
There isn't really a comparison here - the Enabling Law gave dictatoral powers, this act is far from it and would still require a successful vote in the elected Parliment for any law to pass.
Doesn't capitalism eulogize choosing the best, most efficient option, all of the time?
Only if it costs $$$ - otherwise it's "unfair competition" time (how can you compete with free?).
"...through electrical stimulation of the inner ear nerves."
Sounds just like my cochlear implant - does that mean I should start wearing a lot of stealth black now?
My most honest answer is that Windows and associated applications (not just MS ones) will still cost stacks of money. My own work is mainly scientific number-crunching, GIS work & paper writing and Linux provides all this for free. I could elaborate more, but that's the gist...the cost.
Wouldn't you feel prouder if you actually did talk to them and help them out, rather than being holier-than-thou and dismissing it as somebody else's problem?
There's also the rather glaring fact that this article is about phone companies, not entire countries - please take the time to read at least the summary before knee-jerking. Corporate entities are not countries.

Well, it did work for Nirvana....
