http://dictionary.die.net/intuitive intuitive
adj 1: spontaneously derived from or prompted by a natural
tendency; "an intuitive revulsion"
2: obtained through intuition rather than from reasoning or
observation [syn: nonrational, visceral]
What part of that suggests that learning it first is involved? Note that it specifically says that reasoning and observation are -not- involved.
Now let's ignore that and use your definition anyhow, since the computer world uses it more like you've defined than the actual word means.
Blender's UI takes extensive training to learn and requires memorized steps for everything. In most 3D apps, you can apply a texture to an object very easily. It's under a menu item or on a panel that is clearly labeled for texturing. On Blender, it's hidden away under some obscure panels and (if I remember correctly) you need to visit 3 different poorly-labeled panels to import and apply a texture.
I'll give you that once you grasp the conceptual idea in a certain UI that the -rest- of the UI seems intuitive. But you can't apply the label 'intuitive' to a UI that has a new concept that must be taught. Once the general populace has learned that concept, UIs created after that point can barely be labeled intuitive. To be truly intuitive, the concept must be grasped immediately upon seeing the UI. That is an interface that is truly intuitive.
If Blender has a concept, nobody has ever found it and wrote about it, though.
You're wrong. I've done amateur 3D stuff for years and I wanted to switch to Blender. I've spent hours and hours trying to get stuff done in it, but it's just not intuitive at all. I had -no- problem using the other 3D apps I used in the past, but Blender was impossible without finding tutorials. And even then, I forgot how to do it before the next time I used it.
The people that gripe about Blender's interface are those who understand that it's wrong. Maybe not completely wrong, but wrong enough that it's impossible to just pick up and use. I'd even go so far as to say it's the -only- app I've ever met that I wasn't able to just use within a week. It's -that- unintuitive.
It's a shame, really, because from what I know of the app, it's really powerful and well done. I know I'll end up going back to it next time I need to do 3D stuff, but I'll be forced to re-learn everything that I need to do what I want to. It just shouldn't be that hard.
I don't know what you mean by 'advertised', but it is listed in the help documentation. It's quite a pain in the rear for businesses trying to legitimately use a Google Apps-hosted domain to send mail to thousands of customers. It's one of the very few things we dislike about the service.
GPL v2 maybe... What about GPL v3? It would mean that Tivo could take any software they want, upgrade it, encrypt it, and nobody could do anything about it.
I'm not a big proponent of GPL at all, much less v3... But I understand what it was designed to protect against, and it can't do that if copyrights don't exist.
Let's put it another way: Without copyright, all licenses are useless and EVERYTHING is essentially public domain.
Maybe they're right... Copyright infringement got popular before Britney did... Maybe CI was the reason that Britney was able to get popular in the first place.
That makes no sense. Webmail doesn't -work- if they can't decrypt the mail. During that decryption is when they'd choose the targeted ads.
This has absolutely nothing to do with targeted ads and everything to do with the encryption itself. Webmail -can't work- with encryption since you'd have to give your private key to the webmail. That would completely invalidate the encryption automatically.
No, this isn't a capitalist conspiracy. It's just logic at work.
Exactly. I'm as introverted as they come and I -love- instant messaging... Well, except when I'm trying to work or sleep. (And if you let IMs wake you up, that's your own fault.)
My solution? Let my friends know that it's not cool to message me every 10 minutes. The ones that can't grok that aren't allowed to message me at work -at all-.
Problem solved.
This has absolutely nothing to do with being introverted and everything to do with needing to concentrate at work.
I was just thinking, 'A little ahead!? We're behind!' Some other countries have had 10 and 100 megabit connections for YEARS. I'm at 8mb at home, and getting that much at a business is still ludicrously expensive.
My personal theory is that those who feel the need to muddle their mind aren't using it properly in the first place. My favorite quote from the article:
Its rather devastating to be told we should drink less beer in order to increase our scientific performance, Dr. Symonds said.
It's easy to say that, but it's like asking a well-behaved child to disobey their parents' bad commands, or a soldier to disobey his commanding officer's illegal orders. In both situations the 'right' thing to do, the thing that -shouldn't- get you in trouble, is to disobey. But everyone -knows- what'll actually happen is that you take the full brunt of the anger if you disobey, and you are -very- likely to come out unscathed if you obey.
It's not that any of them are 'regal', it's that they hold the power. If the President had no power, there'd be no point in having that position exist.
"Those images give you an idea comparable to what you get on any beach,"
That's just peachy for girls who like to wear bikinis. For those who prefer to keep the majority of their body hidden, the fact that the security guard could see as much -of someone else- at the beach isn't much consolation.
I whole-heartedly embraced GUIs when they came out. To this day, I still prefer CLI for some things. Others -require- GUI. It will probably be the same way with voice commands when they are 'perfected'. Some apps will work well with them, some will be best without.
Your way also doesn't bother anyone around you with excess noise. If people think people talking on cellphones is bad, wait until everyone is -also- talking to their minicomputers while driving/standing in line/walking around the mall/whatever.
My best classes were the ones that had tests that actually tested your knowledge, instead of just how much you could read the night before. Open-book tests, teachers that handed you to the list of questions 2 days before the exam... These were awesome. You -knew- the test would so much harder because of it, and the same general grades came out in the end. More teachers should care about having students learn instead of preventing them from 'cheating' on the test. Make the tests right and they -can't- cheat except by looking at someone else's exam during the test.
You seem to be under the impression that most peopl are 'in their right mind.' I'm sorry to inform you that this isn't the case. Especially the sleep-deprived people with infants.
I have to agree. My sister and mother are both are anti-depression meds... And I used to feel I was depressed, but wouldn't do anything about it.
I no longer feel depressed and I know why: I have hobbies now.
My mother and sister don't have hobbies at all... They just sit around and play games or watch tv... They have nothing to look forward to each day, or even each week.
Me, I can't -wait- to get home and mess with one or more of my hobbies at any given time... I've got so many that it's actually a burden at times to decide what I want to mess with... And I want to add more.
It really was the difference between wondering what life's about and loving my life.
I'm not a doctor, and this isn't the solution for everyone... But I'd bet a -lot- of people would be better off if they had things to look forward to, instead of living life minute-by-minute and never looking forward. Having friends is not 'having a life'. Having a future is, and that -should- include friends to do those things with.
As far as I can tell, Kubuntu 7.10 has readahead installed by default. I can't find much information on whether preload is to replace that, or if they work together or what.
Has anyone got any insight into what's better, or if they will peacefully work together? I'd prefer faster app times over faster boot times as I hardly ever reboot.
First, let's define 'intuitive':

OMG THE RIAA IS RIGHT!
(I wonder if anyone actually believes that?)
Most people are aware of that distinction for web design, too. The reason you see more crappy web design is:
A) It's a hell of a lot easier than producing music
and
B) A website can still be worthwhile with a bad design, while a song that's done poorly is absolutely useless.
That makes no sense. Webmail doesn't -work- if they can't decrypt the mail. During that decryption is when they'd choose the targeted ads.

Translation: We're not sorry. All of you should shut the hell up. Oh, and we threw in some lies in the end that you'll hopefully believe.
I was just thinking, 'A little ahead!? We're behind!' Some other countries have had 10 and 100 megabit connections for YEARS. I'm at 8mb at home, and getting that much at a business is still ludicrously expensive.
Yeah, I was wondering what TFS was smoking. It's -been- up, and there's been none of the DRM or Windows-only shit they predicted.
Really, you should have RTFA.
Its rather devastating to be told we should drink less beer in order to increase our scientific performance, Dr. Symonds said.
So there's at least 1 other person that thought and said the same thing. And the journalist bothered to include it.
Or 1 more:
4) Factor X => more drink + bad scientist
My personal theory is that those who feel the need to muddle their mind aren't using it properly in the first place. My favorite quote from the article:
Its rather devastating to be told we should drink less beer in order to increase our scientific performance, Dr. Symonds said.
I'm guessing he's one of the heavier drinkers.
It's easy to say that, but it's like asking a well-behaved child to disobey their parents' bad commands, or a soldier to disobey his commanding officer's illegal orders. Thank you. I was trying to remember where I remembered a device like this from and knew it wasn't the other poster's example.
So they should buy it, buy blank CDs, use proprietary software to burn it to those CDs, then rip it back to the computer.
How is this is better than just buying the CDs and ripping them?

For true depressions, I'm sure that's the case... Especially ones that are chemical-based, instead of actually being from life problems.
When I just plain don't feel like doing anything... I don't. That means it's just plain time to rest.
I have the opposite solution to the bill problem: I just pay it right away.
I know that isn't always an option, but when it is, it works wonders.
I have to agree. My sister and mother are both are anti-depression meds... And I used to feel I was depressed, but wouldn't do anything about it.
