You can try wiping that card down with a moist paper towel. More than likely the mineral salts in the mouse urine is shorting out the card. Unless you have a very cheap card, the mineral salts should be strictly on the surface.
Who would you ask for a job...a rich man, or a poor man?
The more 'rich' men there are the more people able to employ others, either directly or indirectly throught the goodies they buy.
Democrats like to think that anyone who makes more than 45,000 a year has, in the words of Daschle, "hit lifes jackpot." Those of us who have attained that level know thats not the case. But then the Democrats like to engage in class warfare often with ethnic overtones. But what would one expect from those who pander to a constituency that for the most part is very uneducated, and are always looking for someone to blame for problems they themselves caused.
Only a DOUCHE BAG would think that the Electorial College is an 18th Century "relic". It did exactly what it was suppose to do...prevent a few large cities from running rough shod over the rural areas of the country. Perhaps you did not see a county by county election breakdown, so check out the following link, http://www.usatoday.com/news/vote2000/cbc/map.htm. This country is made up of more that just the big cities.
You liberal cum stains forget that the good ole US of A is a REPUBLIC...not a Democracy. The founders of this country feared a democracy as being mob rule, and rightly so. The Electoral college ensures that city mobs do not have the ability to gain an unbreakable grip in deciding the presidency. Congress is divided in to two houses for the same reasons, to prevent large population centers (i.e. CITIES) from locking rural areas out of the governing process.
Now turning to the accusation that the Supreme Court stole the election for Bush, please recall that there were 2 decisions passed down by the High Court. The first decision the court found, in a 7-2 majority, that the method of recounting were un Constitiutional based upon the equal protection clauses. In English this meant the Supreme Court decided that recounting only in certain counties was improper. This decision however indicated that a STATEWIDE recount would satisify the equal protection clause. In the second decision, concerning whether Florida had time to enact a remedy, the court was split 5-4. Basically this decision was about allowing Florida to go beyond the December 12th deadline for reporting final tallys, as REQUIRED BY FLORIDA LAW. Again, Democrats like to IGNORE LAW WHEN IT SUITS THEIR AGENDA. The Democrats have a habit of using courts to skirt laws...need I remind you of the Torrecelli bullshit in NJ.
And if anyone was trying to "steal the election" it was Al Gore...after all, it was his goons who decended upon Florida in an attempt to repress the absentee vote of our service men and women. For that AL GORE and the DEMOCRATIC PARTY SHOULD BE DEEPLY ASHAMED. Democrats tried accusing the Republicans of disenfranchising certain groups the right to vote, allegations, which to this day remains unproven. However, when the Democrats find voter disenfranchising in their interest...that is the first thing they resort to http://www.usatoday.com/news/vote2000/military.htm.
I see the Democratic party as the single greatest threat to the social, economic, and general well being of this country, a far greater threat than even al-Queda. http://www.boortz.com/demsecrets.htm
PS Do some research and get your facts straight. LOGIC RULES! OH SHIT!! I forgot you are a liberal. Facts mean nothing to fools like you.
DEC rainbows??? You didnt happen to go to the Florida Institute of Technology? That school had the worse computer labs I have ever seen. They had roughly 30 IBM clones, 20 or so DEC Rainbows and a handful of Apples. The big laugh was the administration expected those computers to service the needs of around 3500 students. Luckily I was able to get my Pascal projects done on a friends Amiga. Needless to say I went to that college for only one semester. I was ready to go when I found out they insured one of their friggin palm trees for 10 million. The annual premium for that policy would have outfitted a nice computer lab.
"The most godawful APIs in the world. Win32 is so full of cruft, poor conventions, inconsistent conventions, and unnecessarily complicated *crap* that it's amazing...'
That statement is 110% on!!!.
One of the projects to which I am currently devoting some time is SQL query generator that is tightly integrated with Excel. My app is an XLL that integrates into Excel. My app inserts it's menus into Excel. My app works seemlessly with Excel. Because my app literally becomes part of Excel, I must use the Excel Software Devlopement SDK. This SDK is cruft, and to top it off THERE IS NO FSCKING DOCUMENTATION.
First lets talk about inconsistent conventions. Say I want to insert a row. I can identify where to insert by the row count. But when I go to format that row I must add one to the row count. Why cant it be consistent???? MS cruft.
Second, lets discuss error handling. Suppose I want to extract some data from a spreadsheet. Excel lets me extract data a column at a time in a linked list. So I build the overhead to validate the columns and grab them from the spreadsheet. I put together a loop to read the data from the linked list. If an error ocurred while reading a cell, Excel will put error information in the cell. Unfortunately, that information does not include the LOCATION of the error. I must write code to keep track of the row and column so the error can be acurately reported to the user. It would have made far more sense to also report the location of the error as that information is available to Excel. Just an example of poor planing when Excel and the SDK was being developed.
Finally, theres the lack of documentation. There is two functions Excel() and Excel4() that perform basically the same thing. These function take a varaible number of parameters. The first parameter is a flag that indicates what operation Excel is to perform. The header file has close to 100 flags defined, but no information on what parameters are required. The SDK was distributed with a book. Unfortunately that book does not indicate anywhere what the parameters for each flag would be. A good API with bad documentation or poor documentation is a BAD API.
Your reply "How can I be more specific than he was just wrong? The comments about compilers were wrong, as were the API, developer support, dev tools, debuggers, developer competence, sample code, and so on and so on." shows that you can not form a coherent, logical argument. That statement is like replying to a child's question, "Just because."
There is no problem in disagreeing...but present a specific reasons for your dissent.
I have been developing applications on both platforms for a number of years, specifically ~15 on Windows and 5+ on Linux. 0x0d0a's comments are a fair and accurate accessment of the state of affairs regarding MS and Linux in the various categories selected. I have had some of the same experiences as 0x0d0a described.
It is painfully obvious you haven't done a lot of development in either MS or Linux. You need to seriously look into the state of affairs in the Linux world before you condemn. Maybe, one day soon, you will learn to recognize Micro$oft FUD for what it is...hogwash.
Water vapor will not exceed 100 degrees C in an system with constant pressure. Remember there is an opening left to allow steam to vent off, so the system maintains atmospheric pressure. Thermodynamics dictate that if pressure is constant and additional heat is added to the system the volume of the system must increase.
Nuclear plants utilize systems in which the volume of the system is constant. Pressure is maintained at a constant level by regulating the heat source.
I am really surprised at Alton's response to this question. Although IANAP I would think this is really a simple matter of the thermodynamics of state changes of matter.
An example might be in order here to explain for those who never took chemistry. Take an ice cube with a thermometer frozen within. The temperature of the ice cube will rise 0 degrees C is reached. At this point the state of the ice changes to water. However the temperature of both the water and ice remains at 0 degrees C untils ALL the ice is melted. The same holds true at the boiling point, only if the steam is allowed to maintain constant pressure. When the water boils it remains at 100 degrees C until all the water has turned to steam. If the steam had been collected at constant pressure, once the water is all gone the temperature of the steam will begin to rise.
Now how does this apply to cooking chincken in lava?
"...wrap the hen in about 10 Ti (or banana) leaves. These protect the hen from actually burning" The banana leaves im sure are rather large and contain signicant amounts of water.
"...wrapped hen in the middle of the blob of lava and cover it with another shovel full of lava. We try to leave a small opening to the Ti leaves, for steam to escape..." The water in the leaves is boiling off. The opening maintains constant pressure which results in a fairly constant temperature. As long as the steam is escaping the temperature of the hen is being regulated at a level way below the lava temperature.
If Alton would wrap his hen in banana leaves ( or even wet paper towels ) before placing it under that broiler I will gaurentee it will take longer than 15 minutes to cook.
You can try the OTL which can be found here http://members.fortunecity.com/skuchin/home.htm. It is a C++ wrapper class for some of the more popular DBs. It includes most of what you want; Oracle, MySql, DB2, ODBC, and I think Informix. I use it for Oracle conectivity. I have not had any problems with it. If anything, using the template library has saved me tons of work, and by extension time, learning and re-learning the conectivity schemes of the various databases.
It is free for non-commercial use/ and or evaluation. If you need to license it I am sure the work saved would more than make up for the licensing fees.
