Not every computer needs to be connected to the internet. I run XP on my audio workstation, because it works reliably. It's only connected when I need to use some online license activation method, but that's only for a short time, safely behind a firewall.
Every manager knows that quality needs time & resources. It's just that managers may have different priorities than developers: "give me 80% of functionality tomorrow, rather than 100% in 6 months".
Why would ordinary users have to know the difference between a virus and a trojan? Teach them a few simple rules for safe computing that anyone can understand and that's it.
I don't need to know how a Diesel engine works or how it differs from other engine types, as long as I put in the right kind of fuel (oblig. car analogy).
You obviously don't know much about learning and teaching. Having a student reread pages until they pass the test is a waste of time. If you don't understand the material after reading (maybe twice), you need a different explanation of the material; something that any competent teacher will recognize.
Cats can be kept in house perfectly well. I live in a smallish apartment and our cat is used to living indoors. She can wander around on our small balcony if the weather permits (and she loves it), but living indoors is not a problem at all. Large dogs, on the other hand, will probably go crazy.
Browser requirement checklist:
* Comes with the distribution repositories and is stable, maintainable and patched
How is it then, that everybody and their aunt complains about the fact that the Windows distributions have included a browser for ages? Aah, you mean because of the stable, maintainable and patched part of the requirement...

Nonsense. Software does not cease to function as it did by itself. As you say, it can become outdate and incompatible because people stop targeting it just as with peripherals. You really don't have a convincing argument to back up the statement that hardware remains fully functional when software does not.

Why do you say that? If my webcam worked under Windows 95 ten years ago, it will still work under Windows 95 today. The software doesn't stop working anymore than the hardware does. On the other hand, if you choose to upgrade your OS...
Ehm, the fact that you couldn't download a browser with 128-bit encryption is, as you said, due to US export regulations. You were, in that sense, subject to US laws. I don't think the German law prohibited you from downloading American encryption software.
Customer satisfaction is about as easy to quantify as AHT. We routinely send out surveys to measure customer satisfaction and correlate that information with our productivity metrics and our internal quality monitoring. Yes, high AHT is a problem in call centers, because it costs money, lowering our profit margin. But low customer satisfaction is a bigger problem, because it drivers customers away, effectively reducing our profit margin to somewhere approaching zero. I understand there are a lot of not-so-good call centers, but the majority really is no longer just hiring monkeys to read out scripts to calling customers. And agents really are not fired just for failing to meet AHT targets.
Wine makes it possible to run Windows applications, built on the WIN32 API, to run on Linux.
Mono makes it possible to run Windows applications, built on the.NET framework, to run on Linux.
In both cases, most applications will probably be developed primarily for Windows, but can also be run on Linux. Yes, you can develop.NET apps on Linux, run them on Linux and then move to Windows while keeping your.NET apps. That doesn't mean that Mono provides lock-in. It just means that.NET/Mono comes closer to cross-platform portability than WIN32/Wine does...
No, they're not. Mega means large. It has been used to mean 10^3 longer than it has been used to mean 2^10 but that doesn't make the older definition the only proper one.
The musicians who performed on the recording benefit. The producers often acquired the rights to the composition, the copyright of the composer. The proposal however is not about extending copyright terms for composer/songwriters but for performing musicians. Who can make no valid claim to copyright to begin with, in my humble opinion. They don't create anything: they perform music someone else has written, just like a construction worker building something.
And no, musicians who improvise their own part are no exception. For those musicians the copyright on arrangements of compositions applies. That way they can still be compensated for their creative input. The actual playing is just work for hire, so a normal fee should suffice.
I don't really get the whole ereader thing; sure the Iliad looks nice, but my Palm TX works perfectly. I have 4 ebook applications on it and combined with FontSmoother it looks great. I always have it with me (because it contains my calendar) and it plays MP3's at the same time. Why would I want to spend twice that money on a dedicated reader?
Hmmm, I don't think that would do any good; methane is not produced in the stomach, but later on in the digestive process. Having bacteria in a cow's stomach will not reduce it's methane production.

The 'haab' actually has 365 days, it's the 'tun' which only has 360 days. Depends on which of the two you want to call a 'year'.

It does have an accelerometer to switch the screen orientation. See the specs from Palm: http://investor.palm.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=358392
