Being a Java developer I am looking at this as good news.
However I am wondering how this impacts the momentum LAMP and RoR are gaining in recent time, both of these use Linux as their prime deployment platform, infact L in LAMP is Linux.
Will this pull some potential projects to JBoss/J2EE, projects that some decided they will do using LAMP because they do not want the hassle of configuring JBoss and or Tomcat?
Further are we going to see more Hosting services providing support for JBoss as they do today for python, php etc.
I am not sure about the specific hardware that you are talking about. However I have had various ATI hardware with pretty decent Linux support. My TV tuner card (not a AIW) has full linux support. I also downloaded Graphics Accelerated X server bins from their site, both for my Desktop and my notebook. Not sure about the AIW but my TV tuner from ATI has better support on Linux than Windows. Though to be fair, except my Laptop my other ATI hardware has been around for atleast a year now. I can't talk much about the cutting edge ATI stuff.
Times are tough for goverments these days. We here think US is a free country with freedom of speech and liberty and blah blah blah, however CNN, BBC and other media go through a government censorship before they can air stories. If you think that was bad, try depositing 10000$ or more in your account and wait till homeland security comes over for a little chat.
Things are still better than Iran and China, however if bush administration had its way, Iraninan slashdot (a fictitious slashdot community) will have articles saying, "Man jailed for carrying 10000$ in US":)
Absolutely.
So let me ask you, how many audio cassetes and LPs did you purchase and how many of them have you lost. My guess would be that you don't keep them anymore (I could be wrong).
reason being that I stopped using CDs. Earlier I would look for the CD pop into my CD player and listen.
Now I just hook the ipod to my music system and way i go, further most time i don't even do that, I modded my xbox and just stream music via the xbox. CDs are obsolete.
In car, I just plug my ipod and thats it. Basically once the CD in my iPod, thats it, I don't need the CD anymore. And hence loose track of where they are.
I quite agree with dada21. Here in US I feel freedom is being taken away from me day in and day out. Sometimes my freedom is taken away from me in the name of Freedom. At other times they are taken away by the likes of RIAA/MPAA.
To tell you the truth this is becoming stressful.
For eg: My entire CD collection of 20yrs or so, I have ripped and put on my ipod. Ever since I did that I have lost half my cds. RIAA can come tommorow and sue me because they have found MP3s on my PC, MP3s ripped from my own CDs. To prove that they are my own, I have to get a lawyer that will cost me 10 times of what I make in a month.
On the other hand, homeland securities can come and say how come I got 10000$ from Saudi Arabia (my dad works in consulting firm there and often sends money). Again I will have to shell out money for lawyers, and if I am indicted in patriot act, who knows what will happen.
Ofcoarse, I know sooner or later they will find out that I am innocent (still have faith in our justice system), however the process will cost me stree, time and who knows how much money. A lawyer rightfully told me that justice is not cheap, a bitter truth.
Things are changing for the worst so fast that I fear how our way of life, how out society will survive.
Just plain sucks.
Also hoping that we don't have that crappy bird flu pendemic.
No it does not make it based on christianity... However its naive to only see "soap and sandpaper" with Christianities point of view... This is ofcoarse convinient for a christian but naive nonetheless.
Mind you muslim's don't say Judaism and Chritianity are anything like islam... Infact they say that its been changed, changed as in revision of both Old and New testament by Man and Church. Basically you cannot change god's word for the convinience, cause its not god's word anymore.
We have all seen what cartoons have done, this is also the reason why Quran cannot be changed, basically changing Quran would get just as fanatic a response as the recent cartoons if not more.
And no, I don't want to change quran and find out:)
Ok... So far have only seen non-muslim point of view... If you do know about islam... it is the same god because islam says Both Jesus (know as Isa in Islam)... moses (know as Musa) and Abraham (Ibrahim), david (dawood), john (jahn), Joseph(yusuf).... were all messengers of the same god.... The god of Mohammad...
So again... depends how you look at it.. Based on Islam... they are all same god.
And then... Whats in a name, rose by.....
Thats all Good in Theory, however a good friend of mine was scammed in one of the third world country. It seems some one had made a driver license identical to his(name, address, age etc), except for the photo on it. The particular country I am talking about is quite strict and non-residents like my friends need a Exit immigration Visa (just like how you need on entry into most countries). Anyhow, during his Exit he was told he had traffic tickets worth 1100$. A later enquiry showed his identity was stolen, not by one, but atleast half a dozen people. All breaking traffic laws and handing the officer his license for the ticket. Fortunately it was only the license that was stolen, and only used for traffic voilations.
I don't see why this can't happen in cars. A Terrorist can very well see a red 99 Camery with plates XYZ123, gets the plates for his red 99 camry. The poor sole with the real plates is stuck.
Though I can see the system being smart and deciding that the two plates can't be at two places at the same time and triggering an alarm. Ofcoarse, both drivers need to be driving for this to work.

Now you know why people from South Asia use water instead of tissue to wipe thier ass.

Hey that why I say LAMP will never take the place of say Java/spring/hibernate/tomcat/jboss.
You are so naive, don't you know ripping CDs for your iPod is not fair use.
Same applies to DVDs.
for those slower than a speeding bullet, Disclaimer: The above comment is sarcasm, and so is the disclaimer.

shaped like the toy my girlfriend uses all the time
Well, I agree its a publicity stunt, but so is suing 1 out of every 100,000 who "share" music.
