After standardizing *on the micro connector, someone will need to look into standardizing *it.
Yes, reading the wikipedia page it seems that the micro socket is rated for many many more insertions than the older "mini" socket
On the other hand, I would prefer that my mobile phone in the future didn't have any kind of socket. I want to see induction charging where you just lay it on a charging plate (possibly with other devices at the same time) and just use Bluetooth or whatever for data connectivity.
Now I can take my UK charger to America and still have to but a new adapter/charger!
Well I'm not sure your comment makes a lot of sense, since you can already take your UK based charger (240v, 50Hz) to America and plug it in the nearest wall socket (110v, 60Hz) with a travel adaptor and it will work just fine! This is not a new thing, nearly all PSU's produced in the last 10-15 years have been light switch mode voltage converters rather than the older transformers which were heavy and expensive to make..
if I can see the source and verify that it doesn't have any major bugs in it that is a step in the right direction compared to closed source
You do know though, that the source is not the code that is running on the machine iself, right?
How do you propose to verify that the source code has not been altered before or during the compilation process? I guess, since the source is available you could compile it yourself and write down the checksum to compare with the voting machine binary checksum. Wait, how do you get that, some program running on the voting machine? Also, you know that the voting machine counts a certain number of votes but that count must pass through an indeterminate number of machines upstream, any one of which could be tweaking the figures. Who do you trust?
No, you were right the first time, paper ballots and manual counting is best. Yes, it is labour intensive and slow but IMO the real benefit of that is secondary in that lots of people must participate in the voting process and they may come to realise that the political process is not about what politicians want but is run by and for the people. I don't want to see a streamlined political process, extended discussion and well thought out arguments are vital! Moreover, I think election day should be a national holiday and it should be illegal to operate any non essential business. All citizens should be required to attend voting stations for a certain minimum time, not just to vote but to participate in the process.
So actually I think Shakespeare's plays were never copyrighted in the first place.
Sir, I must point out inconsistencies in your argument. It seems that we have two choices:
His works were in fact copyrighted and he lived well from the proceeds.
His works were not copyrighted and he starved to death at an early age.
But records exist that indicate otherwise in both cases. So, my contention is that the records are clearly falsified and we should err on the side of caution. I myself am owner of a corporation that is willing to step up and maintain the legacy of Shakespeare by collecting the royalties for when he returns(1) to claim them. I myself would take no salary for this, only a small(2) annual dividend(3) in order to ensure that the corporation can continue to protect this valuable intellectual property for the forseeable(4) future.
religious freedom cannot deny reincarnation
to maintain myself in the minimum style that the guardian of such a legacy deserves
no income tax to be paid on dividends naturally
lets just call it forever less a day to simplify the accounting
1g is 9.8 m/s per second. After the first second, you are travelling at 9.8m/s. After the second you will be doing 19.6m/s.. to reach 10% of the speed of light (is that significant enough?) you need to accelerate for 299,792,458 (speed of light) / 10 (= 10%) / 9.8 (1g) / 60 (seconds) / 60 (minutes) / 24 (hours), or about 35 days. Thats not much eh?
And what about all those who don't want to fight, not because they are weak, but because they don't like fighting. Of course, you don't have an answer to that. Because your attitude stinks of the fighter mentality. Your choice of words like "proving yourself" is very revealing.
Well I wonder what it reveals because I did not use that phrase or anything like it.. perhaps you should read my choice of words again? I advocated standing up for yourself and specifically mentioned that it doesn't need to be about violence..
Fight is perhaps the wrong word (and you might note that I didn't use it), because it usually implies kicking and punching etc but you can fight (eg "for your rights") without violence. In the end, it is the fact that you respond personally that will engender respect in your detractors and you might note that I'm not asking you to respect them though if you can learn to then it will go better in the end.
Depends on whether you were the stronger or the weaker of the disputing parties, I suspect...
Respect can be given to a weaker person who, knowing they were weaker, went up against you for the principle. The ninny who goes and calls their dad to smack you down just proves that their dad is bigger than you and will never get any respect. Calling law enforcement is the same, its not about who is right and wrong but if you can carry your head high amongst your peers. It doesn't have to be about violence in the playground either, you can get your teams together and play baseball if you like but at the end of it you can respect each other no matter who wins.
The problem here is that once you can replace the OS, it becomes impossible for teachers or exam supervisors to verify that the calculator really HAS been reset or that it really HAS had the special exam feature loaded on it (dont know what its called but it can lock out calculator features).
Because of this, those who set the exams are going to start dropping the hackable TI calculators from the "approved calculators" list.
Ergo TI cant sell overpriced calculators based on obsolete technology to schools/colleges (and students) anymore.
Well, those who set the exams are going to have to rework their methodology because advances in technology means its no longer safe to allow the students to bring any devices into the exam if you want to control the environment or limit their access to external information. If equipment is required it will need to be provided. This applies to chemistry practicals as well as written history and mathematics exams.
So do English cows also leave behind muffins? Over here in the Colonies, they're often called meadow muffins or cow pies. It could be interesting to know what the actual English call them.
Man, you americans are so prudish. We just call it cow shit**
** if thats what you really mean anyway. Our cows don't generally get any kind of packed lunch and can't make baked goods on their own..
No I think you mistunderstand. Apple are saying that the Google Voice application is not satisfactory because it duplicates the dialer. I'm taking that as meaning that the application has its own method for initiating calls but Apple would prefer that the application was more integrated with the usual iPhone method for initiating a call. I don't have an iPhone but I imagine there is a special swipe where it calls your mom. Well, if you add your moms 'Google Voice' calling details to her database entry rather than her 'PSTN' calling details and perform the special swipe, it should start the Google Voice application and call her using that. Making the user open a 'Google Voice' application before initiating a call is not the iPhone UI way.
(bear in mind that I've never even touched an iPhone:)
Reading the links above, it seems that Apple have passed the buck back with improvements requested and it is Google that decided to cease development and call it a rejection. Don't forget that this is not the Microsoft universe where any piece of shit is good enough, Apple are well used to rejecting software because the UI can be improved and its why the user experience is better with Apple.
Just remove the dialer and you're set, Google! You're the paragon of innovation, you'll find a way to, you know, call people without actually dialling them!
Of course, I haven't read TFA, but is that possible? I mean, have Google not integrated the app into the normal contacts list in any way? That would seem to be the best thing, if you could add a 'Google Voice' field to the contact database with the calling details, then just select that 'address' from the list when you want to call somebody via GV and have the call automatically routed through the 'Google Voice' caller.. does Apple have an API that would support all that?
So, if I go around Britain saying that Tony Blair and Gordon Brown are murdering, blood-drinking, child molesters, I could be found liable for libel? Funny that.
IIRC your credibility is a factor, so if you, "Foobar of Borg" were to do that then you would just be ignored. If, however, you were the editor of a popular newspaper and published "factual" stories saying that then you could be found liable. I even think that if you regularly publish a cartoon parodying our leaders in a popular newspaper and chose to draw one depicting your above scenario then you are still not libellous because nobody is expected to believe it (and in fact, its quite common)
By the way, use of the phone at altitude violates FCC regulations and does a denial-of-service attack on cell sites because sites all of the way to the horizon are receiving that frequency.
I guess, if they thought of it, they could set the phone to not transmit unless it was under a set height and falling. That could save battery power too..
As long as there's at least one single thing that's illegal, say, murder (I think we can agree that there's no reason to make murder legal) Richelieu could still forge a letter in your writing when you say you're the one who committed some recent murder. Then you'd get tortured until you confess, and hang for it.
State sanctioned hanging is murder too, its just not unlawful.
don't forget to mention that electricity and heat generation are happening concurrently so you need to add those two figures together to get an efficiency figure relating to the actual amount of energy that we are extracting from the fuel..
finally, it would be useful to compare this against figures from other devices that produce either heat or electricity or both.
Take Michael Phelps for example, and his size-14 feet, which bend 15 degrees farther than the vast majority of the population. Only a small number of individuals have this abnormality.
I would be interested to see a study done of a Michael Phelps when he didn't have any training, to see if the bend is any more or less than another person. Oh but we can't because there is only one
Take Lance Armstrong. Through (clearly) a genetic abnormality, his heart is 20% larger in size than the average athlete's, and grew even larger with training. And for some reason his body produces 30% less lactic acid than normal.
Both these are interesting "facts" too (no citation but I'm not disbelieving you). I have read that a lot of cycling will cause the heart (a muscle) to get larger anyway. Did anybody measure his heart during a life with no training? If not, how can they say it is 20% larger? I'm not sure about the lactic acid thing, but who is to say what a lot of intensive training will achieve? I don't believe that human body is fixed in its capabilites and clearly it is possible to adapt to physical stress
Yes, we need have a Male, Female and lastly a anything goes category. If people want to push themselves to death then so be. If for entertainment and scientific purpose then even better!
There is a problem with this. Back when East Germany took young children to athletics camps and raised them on cocktails of steroids so they would grow up better it was wrong, and in the modern world when "some other regime" who cares more for their country winning than the effects on the athletes does the same thing with genetic selection or genetic engineering it will still be wrong
Do you suppose that already there is not some party official who has seen Usain Bolts leg measurements and thought to check the leg measurements of all the young children in order to select future winners for special training? What about when that official sees that yes indeed, longer legs means faster sprinters and orders tests done to find an undetectable method of increasing leg lengths while the child is growing? Sure, some will grow too much and live a life of misery (or just get put in the meat grinder with the other failures) but the ones who come out perfect will be winners and nobody will ever know.
The problem is that it is not "people" that want to push themselves to death, it is "people" who want to push others to their deaths and that is not something I want to sponsor. How do we protect against it when we clearly can't detect the causes? The only way is to have a range of norms and only allow those inside that range to compete.
Unfortunatley for her, it seems that Caster does in fact fall outside of the range of normal (just look at the pictures, she is not normal even when compared to other female runners), and for me the question is not whether we allow her to compete or not but what will happen if we do? I assert that that party official will be trawling orphanages immediately looking for other genetic deformities that can be exploited similarly. Won't somebody please think of the children?

hmm, surely 20+34=54?
perhaps you should show your workings because I'm not sure where you got the 57.6 from?
