  1. Limbaugh had that. on Traditional Radio Endangered By New Tech · · Score: 1

Rush Limbaugh (conservative commentator) had such a system in place, I don't recall if it was removed or not, but does allow for an extra commercial spot. It also removes the use of a dramatic pause. Orson Welles would not approve.

  4. Pentium 5? on Intel Discusses Future Plans · · Score: 2, Interesting
When is Intel going to move to Pentium 5 chips instead of a billion models of Pentium 4s? Sure it may seem redundant (pent = 5) but it was at least easy to keep some of this stuff straight when the chips matched to their socket sizes and years somewhat well. P4s go back at least to 2001, when is Intel going to help the everyone sell new hardware?

And while we're at it, could AMD explain their CPU lines better (esp. to consumers)?

I ditto the comments regarding the plastic airplane model plans and the overspecializtion of pieces, but I'm suprized the grey and black castle pieces haven't been brought up much. It was the one specialized piece that worked with the rest and allowed a lone kid to make large structures quickly, even with ramparts and swinging walls to allow the archer figures to be moved inside. Those were the days...

I'm suprized they don't have a $100-200 kit that has a motor, video cam, and wheels, so one could wirelessly control the vehicle one makes. That'd even work for non-Lego hovercraft.

  11. Re:Has nothing to do with Broadband on Unleashing the Power of the Cell Broadband Engine · · Score: 5, Insightful
Simply because IBM mentions broadband doesn't mean it has anything to do with system-to-system data transmission. This sounds a bit like Intel's marketing of "shiny new Pentiums make the Internet faster."

"The Pentium III will make the Internet a much more consumer-friendly environment," says Jami Dover, Intel's marketing vice president. Surfing today, Dover maintains, is a limited experience because data-transfer rates over ordinary telephone lines do not allow for high-quality audio, video and 3D graphics. "You take people raised on TV and show them a flat, text [Web] page," says Dover. "It's quite a juxtaposition." I guess Intel was hoping the world could go through a phone line with enough compression.

To us this is a nitpick, to the general public this is more confusion in a jargon filled marketplace.

I always thought ATX power supplies are quite wasteful. Let's go back to AT, shall we?

I'd rather not, replacing the supply often ment changing the physical plug on the front of the case. ATX and newer designs offer power to the board as long it it's plugged in, for features such as Wake-on-LAN (and modem). For home users, this is a waste, but useful in business networks. Since ATX uses "soft-power" it needs to power the board to a small degree.
