Any suggestions on what can be done regarding Firefox running slowly due to slow Flash? I know it's mainly Adobe code, but it affects the perception of Firefox. I'd love to just ask the right folks nicely if they can figure out why something can run so much slower with Firefox than IE, when it's usually pretty trivial.
Yeah, but this is 2015. I don't think the Duke will be ready in time.

Y'know, I figure the proper way to do porn in hi-def is simply to tile 16 different vids at a time, and you can check out the stream that interests you most.
I've had problems with 2003 under Vista, and Vista itself displays messages that it isn't compatible (and Microsoft has no plans to fix that.) We're moving to 2005 for later versions, but at the moment I've had to keep my XP machine and develop on that.
I tried using 2003 on Vista anyway, but it would periodically lock up.
If Vista breaks Microsoft's own programs, that's a rather worrying sign...
Plasma sets are also having issues, suffer from burn-in, and are expensive.
For a given size, plasmas are cheaper than LCDs. Granted I got a good price, but my 58" plasma (the family holiday present) was $1900. Plasma is a power hog though; I think it is rated at over 600 watts.
Saturn had plastic body panels for years. However, aluminum is much more recyclable, and if the auto industry used more of it, it would only take a decade or so to reach the critical mass where it wasn't much more expensive than steel (due to recycling from junked cars.
Why not just get the algae producing biodiesel? They'll consume CO2 during its production, and biodiesel doesn't require compression tanks, etc. And heck, if you get enough production, you could sequester excess biodiesel to keep CO2 levels down.
I think a problem is the prequels aren't cheesy enough; they take themselves too seriously. Star Wars IV and V have a plethora of cheesy but wonderfully quotable lines. Can you think of the last time anyone ever quoted a line from a prequel?
Look up "grid energy storage" on wikipedia, it describes some non-battery techniques for storing energy for later use.
Solar roofs are a possibility, but still too expensive at the moment in most cases. I have a south-facing area on my roof that will be covered with panels if the price goes down (or other energy prices go up sufficiently.) But frost damage is a concern for me.
Wind power might have a human-beneficial effect, by reducing the number or power of hurricanes and tornadoes. But I certainly don't know if that's a realistic possibility.
I have no unreasoning fear of nuclear plants, but cost has been the overriding issue with them too. This may be changing.
Fair enough, but wind farms seem to be a surprisingly good answer, and one worth emphasizing. They have few negatives if placed so as to avoid bird strikes, and are close to cost-effective even without some sort of carbon tax.
In Terry Pratchets discworld book "The Truth" the patrician (local ruler) makes an observation about a newspaper. "Ain't it nice how there is always just enough news to fit the page, no spaces left open or anything".
Newspapers don't necessarily have the same number of pages every day. Slashdot doesn't have to have the same number of stories every day.
ESPN, though, can have a challenge filling the news on slow sports days (for example, the day after the baseball All-Star break.)
The fact is that Toshiba paid Paramount a lot of money to drop Blu-Ray support.
That seems to me like a good thing. Seriously, how could these guys stop the format war? One side could pay the other to switch, essentially profit-sharing.
I have a 1080p, 42" LCD, and I haven't bought one of these drives yet because of the format war. I would have bought one of the $100 ones from Wal-Mart, though, but they sold out too fast, so perhaps it won't matter once they get cheap enough.
I'm not too worried about DRM, since I don't plan on owning many discs. Netflix FTW.
I put together a "slide" show recently of my son's life for a family event. We had few, grainy pictures from his younger days, and lots of high quality pics from more recent times. (Didn't have enough time to scan film photos.) It's like the Calvin and Hobbes where Calvin's dad claimed the world was black and white when he was younger, then got grainy color and then finally high quality color around the time Calvin was born.
Is it that much more expensive to do some sort of clear packaging? Ugly from a recycling standpoint, perhaps, but if the package had a clear window to the objects inside, it would be a lot harder to disguise crap as quality.
And perhaps vendors should also weigh the returns. Shrink-wrapped items should all weigh within about 1% of the standard, other items within a few percent.
A real president will veto a bill he dose not believe in.
I didn't say Clinton didn't support the DMCA, just that he wasn't particularly instrumental in getting it passed. Might as well blame McCain -- he was in the Senate at the time.
The problem we are having in the US is that all of our politicians are spending their time telling us what they think we want to hear.
You think we wanted to hear the DMCA, that there was a clamour of support for extending copyright? No, the problem is the politicians are bought and paid for, and an "honest" one is just one who stays bought. The DMCA was a payoff to the already rich and politically connected.

I was thinking "Holy Grail" myself.
"I want to go for a walk!"
"You're not fooling anyone, you know."
Hell, how much would Murder, Inc. charge? The world would be better off without such "people" in it.
(Note that I mean scammers and sleazeballs, regardless of nationality, not Nigerians.)

Big deal. When you have small children, you don't have the time or energy anyway.

Heck, use more aluminum and carbon fiber in the non-structural bodywork, and make those heaviest vehicles less heavy.

So yes, you will be 'healthier' because of the extra medical checks, but you will also be worrying more.
But isn't there a decent chance you won't turn out to be a carrier, in which case you get to worry less and skip the extra bowel screening?
The United States does get as much oil from the Middle East as many think.
But oil is pretty fungible. Reduce U.S. demand and international oil prices drop, and tyrants with their hands on the pumps get less money.

The band's attorneys have indicated that they are seeking an injunction that would force the game to be withdrawn from sale.
I've been trying to buy the Wii version for the kids; as far as I can tell, they've succeeded.

Hell, there are a few things I wouldn't mind wiping out from the original, much less a copy.

Right now, in the DVD war the only thing BluRay has over HD is Disney.
Disney includes Pixar which is by far the best reason to buy a high-def player.

I've bought "Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms" 4 times now.
Talk about your "Money for Nothing"!
