They make money on the overage fees. Thats why there is such a gap in data between the plans. I would also like to be able to have the option of a smart-phone plan that is Wi-Fi only. Why do I have to pay for a data plan at all? Wi-Fi is practically everywhere.
The only reason the Volt looks like it is selling is because the dealerships are selling them to each other to get the rebate from the feds.
I have seen several Volts here, in Portland, Oregon...listed at over $50k. And that is for a "used" one, with less than 100 miles on it.
My son used to work at Best Buy. He said the managers at his store purposely had a TV connection screwed up to show a bad picture, and they were instructed to tell customers is was because of cheap cables. They were also ordered to push expensive cables on TV buyers or risk being reprimanded, and being made fun of at team meetings.
Second, where do conservative commentators have their greatest strength, in terms of market penetration, viewership numbers, etc? Radio and Cable. On the radio, there is pretty much Right win talk, apolitical top-40 pop drivel, and NPR coming in a distant third. On cable, you have the rabid ideologues on Fox, and the slightly more respectable-looking "centrist" corporatistists elsewhere. The left pretty much has comedy central.
The left has a pretty good hold on cable too. CNN & MSNBC are pretty far left.
Unfortunately, I dont think we even have a "centrist" news station any more.
The only reason the left doesnt hold onto talk radio is because nobody wants to listen. They tried with Air America, which was FAR more "left" than FOX is "right". But Air America pushed themselves over the edge with batshit nutty people like Randy Rhoads.
I think you're looking at this from the wrong perspective. It isn't the ISPs that are pushing for it, even though they will benefit...
It's the MIAA and RIAA that are pushing for it. They're banking on making it expensive to pirate media in order to diminish how often it happens!
I think this would encourage piracy. If a person has to pay as they go, wouldn't it be cheaper to download a single compressed file, maybe even of lower quality, instead of streaming with commercials & all the other crap?
Are they looking to arrest parents that buy videogames for their kids? Because I don't buy the idea that parents don't know what games their kids are buying. Games are expensive. The parents give them the money or buy the game for the kid in most cases. They see them playing it.
I think this is just an agenda for the holier-than-thou to force their views on others.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can setup your PayPal account so that it has the ability to deposit money right into your bank account, right? With online banking all the rage nowadays, can you not just transfer the money from your paypal account every week keeping a minimum in there for incidental costs? That way, you can keep your money in your own bank account.
I don't know much about PayPal, but wouldn't that be a viable option instead of keeping say... 600,000 pounds in PayPal?
They can still get the money back from your bank account.
What does the size of the ISP have to do with it? The Constitution in this case is irrelevant. The Constitution is a list of limits on government, not ISPs. If you dont like their contract, use a different ISP.
That said, I would like to know who gets to determine what is, or is not, "hate" speech.
The whole concept of hate speech and hate crimes is bullshit IMO.
We bought an 07 Altima hybrid with 35k miles. All I know is, I get nearly 40mpg, and it has a full warranty to 100k. Our old Nissan SUV got about 16mpg. So my fuel bill is cheaper, and my payment is about $60/mo cheaper. Right now, for my family, that is what counts. I didnt get the car to make a statement or help humanity. I couldnt give a shit what anyone thinks. I got it because it helps my bills.
What about netbooks with no optical drive at all?
My Acer netbook didnt come with recovery discs, but came with a utility to *burn* recovery discs. How is the normal user supposed to do that without an optical drive?
Fortunately I had a friend with an external dvd burner.
So they are calling it "global warming" again? I was just getting used to them changing from "global warming" to "climate change." Because the masses were not buying it. And man made? Its ego, plain and simple. The elites of this planet cannot contemplate being out of control. Or heaven forbid the masses being out of their control. And the rules and regulations from "controlling climate change" will keep the little people in line.
It was the way they taught with them, the way they used them in class. Different teachers too. They required different units over the years. And each model had various features the others didnt. Certain models they wouldnt allow on tests, so you had to have the one that teacher was using.
I cant stand the damn things myself. I prefer my Hewlett-Packard RPN calculators.
The list my kids brought home had a $100 TI Graphing calculator on it for math class starting in middle school.
And I ended up buying at least two for each of them because the models they used changed almost every year.
I understand the "creative class" needs their validation because they cannot cope with the real world. But graffiti is vandalism. Deal with it.
What if one of them takes a shit on your porch and calls it "art?"
Then maybe we should change how the money is distributed at the federal level. Here in Oregon, all schools are funded equally. All the tax money goes to the fund, then they all get the same amount per kid, period.
That way all the "rich" and "poor" neighborhoods all have the same funding.

I just hope it is better than MSE.
Of course, anything to scare parents into getting their kids vaccinated before the drug is available generic.
The feds can just ask the cable companies what you are watching. They'll cave.
"New data from the Japanese government" 'nuff said.
I was bummed when you stopped writing for CPU magazine. But leaving Slashdot? It just won't be the same. Good luck Rob! Thanks for all the fish.

But if they cannot make the technology profitable at $120k, how can they expect to do it at $50k?
Secretaries and those who do medical transcription have been using them for years.

If you actually had really and truly been listening, then you would have heard him say it goes 300 miles on gas "backup."
Oh, they were listening. See, they leave out the stuff that doesnt fit their agenda. Both left and right do that crap.

Its not the retailers job to babysit the damn kids either.

Ground Kontrol in downtown Portland, Oregon is pretty cool. Draft beer, 80s video games/pinball machines. Good stuff.
