  1. A plan on Neuroscientist Halts Research to Stop Extremists · · Score: 1

    So here's what we do.
    1. He should either change his phone number or force his phone company to let him use a whitelist type thing. That is, the network should auto-terminate any call placed to his phone not coming from an authorised number.

    2. Firebomb the people that firebombed him. Hell, if he even manages to make a Molotov cocktail that actually detonates, or if he even gets the address right he'll be ahead of these fucking morons.

  2. What about me? on 11-year-old Proves Locks Not So Secure · · Score: 1

I can bump a lock too. I have no idea what the hell I'm doing but I can read some instructions off of a sheet of paper and bump a lock. What? You're not worried? That's odd. I guess age and gender are directly linked to how well you can not understand what the hell you're doing and still accomplish something. Thus, an 11 year old girl with no idea what she's doing is scarier than a 25 year old guy with no idea what he's doing.

As other people have stated, this isn't anything new; and that was an insecure lock anyway.

The only thing scary about the movie is that they let an 11 year old girl into DEFCON 14 and apparently there aren't any parents nearby.

  3. What's the point of the script on Stolen Laptop Calls In! - Will Police Act? · · Score: 1

If you already have the person's signature, address, name, etc. Then why do you need Verizon to track the guy for you? If he's paying for the laptops then I assume you require a credit card in case this stuff happens. The police might subpoena a credit institution for the info if they won't talk to the ISP. It's worth a shot.

  4. Loads of junk on Some Bands Still Refuse Music Downloads · · Score: 1

"Some feel that per-track downloads hurt the artistic integrity of albums as a whole"
Translated, this means that artists are now mad that they can't produce one or two good songs and package it with 10 crappy ones they recorded while drunk one night and charge people $20.00 for the whole thing.

As for the record companies taking way too much money, yeah that's always been a problem. But for some reason, nothing really seems to get done about it. It would only take a couple really well known bands to demand higher payments (or not let the record company produce their music, which could make them a lot of money even with the new terms) to solve this problem.

  5. Re:49 people + 180 days = proof?? on First Phase of AIDS Vaccine Trials Successful · · Score: 1

Unless the birth defects are worse than the effects of the AIDS virus. Heck, any birth defects are probably worse than the AIDS virus. How would you like to grow up with birth defect X because your parents got some vaccine which really isn't necessary if you just avoid having sex with people you don't know/trust/are married to? Not to say that abstinence is a magic bullet, but given the choice between don't have sex with someone or risk giving birth to a mentally challenged child, I'd choose the former.

  6. Re:No wonder the RIAA is pissed on Teens Don't Think CD Copying is a Crime · · Score: 1

Great. If we were actually talking about murders that would be a wonderful argument. Unfortunantly, we're talking about copyright law and that has nothing to do with murders.

  7. Re:Cut. Try another scene. on Teens Don't Think CD Copying is a Crime · · Score: 4, Insightful

More like "Yeah, I love your music, just not enough to buy the album of which over 80% of the revenue you don't even see because it all goes to the recording companies. But here, I'll give you $10 to make up for pirating it later. It's more than you'll make if I actually go out and BUY it".

Now, we just need a way to let everyone see their favorite band in person so this conversation can actually happen.

  9. This is great on First Blu-ray Drives Won't play Blu-ray Movies · · Score: 1

Their own copy protection shit is finally screwing them over. They can't figure out how to correctly institute a copy protection scheme that really does nothing but make them more money, and in turn they can't release a product that actually works. I'd like to see how many people adopt this new standard when they realise that they can't watch blu ray movies on their blu ray drive.

  10. This is NOT news on Proxy Sites Offer Secret Passage to Myspace · · Score: 1

Internet proxies have been around just as long as slashdot, if not longer. This isn't a new problem.

And really, the best answer isn't to attempt to whitelist half the Internet in schools. Students don't have computer access unless they're in the library or computer lab as it is already. And in both of these places, there MUST be a teacher present if the students are present. If the teacher would just look around at everyone's screen, there'd be no problem.

First, Play heavy metal really fucking loud. Of course, the police CAN hear this so it might not be a good idea.

Second, Kill power to his house.

On a more serious note, go get a sensor that can read noise at that frequency (will a normal decibel meter work? Try it if you have one). Anyway, then call the police and show them the meter.
Also, if you can prove that he is doing this, then sue him for possible hearing damage.

  15. Limewire agreement. on RIAA Goes after LimeWire · · Score: 1

When you download limewire you have to select one of two options "I might use limewire for copyright infringement" or "I will not use limewire for copyright infringement". Selecting the former option does not allow you to download limewire. And then of course there's the 50 page EUlA which probably mentions something about not being liable for your actions.

Also, fuck the RIAA/MPAA and their large scale sue-everyone-and-get-rich-quite scheme.

HAH, with this new system the freshman 15 will become to freshman 50. (Google it if you don't know what the 'freshman 15' is)

But seriously, what the hell is going to happen when all of these kids go to college? A kid has never been taught very much about proper food choices and when mommy isn't there to do it for them, they're screwed.

And furthermore, what is all of this "preparing students to make good choices for later in life" crap that we hear all the schools spewing at us? You don't prepare people to make choices by making the choices for them and then setting them free all at once.

  18. Re:It's obvious why they're *really* doing this on Cheyenne Mountain Shutting Down · · Score: 4, Informative

Stargate SG-1 s a science fiction show aired on the sci-fi channel. It's in it's 8th season now I believe. The stargate is supposedly this big ring looking thing that allows people to open a wormhole to another stargate, there are a lot of stargates places all over the galaxy.

It turns out that there are also stargates all over the universe but that requires a lot of power and a weird ass way to dial to the other stargate. They find a way to do that and they create stargate Atlantis which is it's own show now.

  19. Re:how I lost respect for soldiers on Pentagon Monitors War Videos Online · · Score: 1

The chopper you refer to is called an Apache longbow. Although the thermal imaging doesn't come from that dome over the rotor. Any camera/thermal imaging is done through another rotating turret under the nose of the chopper at the front. This turret contains a 50 caliber gun as well as some sensors (camera/thermal). It's movement is controlled by where the pilot is looking.

Although I don't condone what they did, the soldiers looking at some couple having sex didn't just take the chopper up to spy on people. They were assigned to patrol some area around where they were and happened to come across this.

The time they're attacking that building they aren't just shooting innocent civilians. And yeah, they're going to make jokes about what they're doing. Because if you're stationed over there for one hell of a long time with the constant threat of death coming at any moment (mortar in the barracks, IED, getting shot in a firefight), and the fact that your job is to protect yourself and your fellow soldiers (which entails a lot of killing), you can't take it completely seriously all the time. Because if you take it seriously all the time you will mentally break down, hard.

Again, I'm not saying that we should kill more people or that spying on people having sex with a multi-million dollar chopper is A-OK, nor am I saying that we shouldn't have negative opinions about U.S. soldiers just because they're U.S. soldiers; but it's hell over there and they really didn't do anything terribly horrible. By 'terribly horrible' I mean that they didn't kill innocent civilians, and I highly doubt the people in the "sex video" could actually be identified due to the nature of thermal/night vision cameras at a range great enough that the people didn't hear the chopper.
