  1. need more information on Climate May Be Less Sensitive To CO2 Than Previously Thought · · Score: 1

you can mod this up or down, it wont matter. what does matter is how reliable our predictions are. in a perfect world we would know exactly what the weather would be everyday but even with our gobs and gobs of data we still cant tell what the weather will be. sure, we have "70% chance of showers" but what about the weather in a month? no idea at all. i think it's incredibly arrogant to think we can tell what the earth is doing when we have so little data. even thousands of years of data is a blip and cant be used to reliably predict how the earth will be in the next 10 years.

in all honesty, i think this panicking over global climate is going to be looked on the same was as we view the Red Scare.

i do reserve the right to be completely wrong.

  9. masochism on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

I used to be on linux for the longest time because it's was terribly hard to use had poor drivers, WINE wouldnt work on anything, .NET was completely inaccessible and all the GUIs were poor. GIMP was my favorite, you could barely figure out anything and it would drive you nuts. Those were the days. Unfortunately, they started improving things slowly. They even made GIMP slightly better... but i can get that on windows too and it's even slower. Before you had to manually mount the CDROM drive so you had to memorize commands, maybe add yourself to sudo or try to install kernel drivers. But now it all works when you plug it in and even remote ftp and scp data transfers are simple. But hey, I had RPM dependency hell still... until they fixed that with Debian and even unified the installation and uninstallation process. I finally had it with the simplicity of it all and switched back to windows. I never knew it before but Windows 7 takes a huge amount of resources any my poor 1GHz and crap video card go slooow a big thanks to Aero. How awesome is that? Oh yeah, I have 1GB of RAM so there is a shitload of diskswapping. I don't have enough space on my drive to hold Windows and my applications so I have to uninstall all the time. With it hanging sometimes during uninstallation, it gets all messed up and I have to remove the files and registry entries manually (sweet!). However, I've heard all this bitching about how Gnome 3 and Unity make the whole desktop impossible to use and Gnome 3 needs hardware acceleration which my graphics card cant manage well, so fingers crossed on having to go to software rendering. It's all so exciting, I might just switch to Linux and when i must, run Windows 7 on QEMU.

Thanks Gnome team for bring back the suffering to the Linux Desktop!!!
