the US oil giant's admission that its contractor's spill prediction software constantly crashed and was not a reliable predictor of how far oil could travel if an accident took place.
the approaching century most likely be dominated from the east with US (as is now) begging for monetary sustainability from the East, tables turn as has always been the past. To stop banging on about this, all countries who abstained are being SMART! China is where the money is and don't tell me about un-democratic! the only democratic/free speech left in the west is sex/obscenity/infidelity/promiscuity/smoking dope!
i'm not big on software piracy but i think this is one of the best programs to pirate. why? because it prevents inattentive jerks from becoming part of a botnet that is going to be used for sending spam which effects everyone.
in the long run, pirates may become paying customers. people like to "try before [they] buy" because you want to see what you are missing and evaluate if you want to actually buy it or not. if there isnt a demo for software, i pirate it and if i like it, i buy it otherwise i delete it.
i'm a linux user (yay for free software) and console gamer (gamefly rules!), so it's rare for me but i did it for cedega and for starcraft 2 (i dont do online anything, so it's not about that) because it's software i like and support.
i can understand why amazon.com did what it did because it was afraid the cops/feds/whomever would sieze everything that stored ANY data for the site. i dont know if they use a lot of SANs or just servers with drives but it could be a MASSIVE loss of data on their part if it's on a lot of different SANs which would screw over all their other customers that had data on the same systems. yeah, there are backups and fail over sites but what if they seize those too? SANs arent cheap either, they could have had millions of dollars of equipment seized and lot more in business.
basically, they made a business decision: hosting them wasnt worth the money.
if they wanted to be mean about it, they could have stripped out all the data and handed it over to the government without notice and just say wikileaks violated the TOS or some other bullshit.
it's a really sucky situation for both sides. i dont think this was a politically motivated decision but rather a business fearing terrible losses.
Should we "beam" broadband internet into Iran? I dont know if interfering with other governments is a good idea. A lot of people seem to be for interfering with a regime until we actually go to war with them at which point those same people scorn and point blame at others for doing exactly what they wanted.
I'm not trying to troll, I'm bringing up a valid point.
There are a lot of issues that exist in the _real world_ when it comes to HTML 5.
1) current browsers dont even score perfectly on the acid 3 test, so do you honestly think they will be working properly for html5?! 2) tools for making flash already exist and are far and are widespread. 3) everyone has flash, why move and learn something new? 4) flash is a binary format, making it better compressed than sgml languages 5) execution speed: have you seen how slow javascript is on all the browsers?!
html5 may be great but it's uses will be limited with exception to megacompanies like yahoo and google. microsoft already has their fancy pants silverlight so they wont bother.
'This means you can write a 100% reliable exploit in pure Java. This exploit will work on all the platforms, all the architectures and all the browsers,'
Will the next Playstation you purchase post-PS3 run a Microsoft operating system and have backwards compatibility for PS1 PS2 PS3 Xbox and Xbox360?
are you kidding me?! the PS2 just barely managed to run PS1 games and the Xbox360 has as much compatibility as mating cats and dogs. there is no way in hell that there will be a console that plays these games. besides, Microsoft already left Win2k users in the rain with IE7 do you really think they would care about supporting anything but their latest and greatest?! it's not going to happen, Sony knows they have MS under their thumb on the console side. oh, and not to mention the DOJ, they wouldnt be so happy about it. IT WONT HAPPEN!
AJAX is not secure! if you look at google maps you can see my house... it's just sitting there on the screen waiting to be bombed. ahh.. my frickin' house!
there will be no online gameplay because "the internet is over."

"what's the worst that could happen?"
Weapon connects using Ethernet or Wireless
so now Skynet has flying drones and turrets. does anyone even think about these things before they build machines like this?!

It also will not have caps locks
YES! they are keeping true to their "dont be evil" mantra.
KOffice has been reborn as "Calligra," a name meant to evoke calligraphy but perhaps a bit too close to the neme of a deranged Roman emperor.
yes, the first thing everybody is going to think is, "holy crap! is that named after that insane roman ruler 2000 years ago?!"
my first thought was, "what the hell does Calligra mean?"
not everyone is a historian.

then again, they might just be jerks.

"Crowdsourced Justice" is just a pretty name for mob justice.
stop trying to thwart our green outlook with your logical analysis of the real world! you are really going to bum out the protesters.

yeah, if you're stupid and don't know how to code.
Isn't that why you would be coding in Java in the first place?

the retaliation will be MIT replacing all their campus computers with 486s with win 3.11. unsurprisingly Caltech will report higher uptimes. :)
