    Disk -> diskette (floppy diskette)

    Disc -> obviously disc shaped (compact disc)

    When GP said "That's disc, not disk." they were alluding to the fact that the storage medium being announced is a compact disc style format, not a hard or floppy disk style device.

    In any event both terms are used in the context of computing e.g. "I'm going to burn these files from my hard-disk, to my compact disc."

    I understand that the likelihood of a /.er reaching the bottom of the article is slim, however there's a hillarious spell-check failure in the link to the report:

    The Forrester report "How Much Monday are Your Idle PCs Wasting?" is available for $279.

    Presumably an auto-correct became an auto-screwup.

    I'm drunk and very ranty, and I fully understand what precedent is being set, and I also know that I'll end up on charges some day if this stands as it is (who doesn't make fake accounts?), however, there is a strong point to be made.
    Repeal this bullshit and start again. Start again with assisted homicide. Start again with harassment. Start again with breach of the peace. Start again with anything, but don't let this twisted, disgusting pile of shit get away with the *fact* that she was instrumental in driving another human being to suicide.
    Yes it's a fucking slippery slope, and yes it's difficult to say what might become of any law that tries to punish this woman.
    However, there HAS to be some way this woman can be brought to justice. What she and her cronies did was utterly despicable.
    Cripes I'm getting riled up.
    I've re-read everything I've posted and after a few deep breaths I still agree so.. submit.

    If they can send out an image that the isn't picked up unless there's a piece of paper on it, how far are they from sending out *lots* of images, each of which is only visible on a specific medium?
    Once that's down, surely you just make lots of layers, "addressable" by their properties, i.e. which image each layer will display, and you've got 3d no?

    That's the same as with the Sennheiser HD200s, the cable comes out from the can housing.
    Unfortunately, the reason most if not all of my last post was in the past tense is because one of the channels broke. I don't know who's fault it was, but until I get around ot finding out, I can't recommend them.

    I used to use a pair of these even when out and about. Yeah they might make you look a bit silly, but there are upsides. The sound quality was awesome (as far as I can remember). Also, a driver approaching you as you cross the street can plainly see that you've got music on and may not be able to hear them.
    I found it remarkably easy to "get over" receiving funny looks, and really enjoyed the quality of the sound.
    These days the kids play their music on their mobile phone *speakers* for crying out loud. What is it? Do they actually hate music so much that they'll squeeze it out of a mobile phone in crap-o-sound form?

    You see it all the time.
    Makes me cringe too.
    It's on a par (regarding how much it makes me twitch) with saying "nucular".
    I saw a documentary about the main areas of Science that the next US President ought to know something about and the presenter couldn't say "nuclear".
    I very nearly turned it off, but it was interesting aside from that and I'm glad I didn't.
