Musical tastes vary from person to person, and sometimes day to day. My music goes from Opera though to Evanescence, Black Sabbath, hell I have Country and even a selection of Chinese violin music. While driving I tend to play heavy rock, while reading I play classical. I have quite a few CDs from groups I have heard playing in Subways, street corners . I barely listen to Radio and do not stream music regularly, I may go to Youtube to grab some nostalgia from the 60's-80's. Getting to people is actually becoming harder, I don't watch "normal" TV, I watch mostly netflix. Don't go to pubs and like most ignore adverts as background noise. The labels do more to cut through to people now than ever before.

Yeah, ever watch those crappy TV talent shows, thousands of people lining up all believing they are just an undiscovered talent. You can waste huge portions of your life finding the people with REAL talent, and even then they may only ever have one song that resonates with you. Music labels do that sorting for you, they get rid of the delusional no talent wannabes (unless it is Black Friday and Daddy has a shit ton of money). For every one real talent they waste time with thousands of idiots, that costs. The labels also invest in talent they hope will make it, spending huge sums on teaching them to play in sync, variations on playing styles, introducing them to different instruments and sounds, fitting songs to bands, practice studios, recording studios, sound engineers, etc etc etc etc. That too all costs money, and most recorded artists probably never make it really worth while, but without that support the real gems are even less likely to make it.

Yep, my speakers are made of Rosewood, they look good as well as sound good (to me). And the stereo is minimalist, no flashing lights, nothing that looks like the front grill off a 1950s cadillac , no crappy graphic equaliser. Nothing butt ugly. kiddies need to learn that all the "engineering" they put into the flashing lights is effort that has not gone into the sound.

  4. Ask yourself, if any American who is willing to work in that kind of environment will care any more... the answer is no, however because of Chinese culture , the large pool of people wanting jobs in those areas and the fact they are being paid above average wages, I suspect the Chinese worker will actually do a better job.

Apple has never held a patent for rounded corners. The truth requires you to read, and not just the jerk circle "rounded corners" sites, try ones that use big words, ones that go into the whole claim. More to the point, Samsung were STILL found guilty of infringement, its the penalty they are arguing.

Well you see, there is a great big world out there that is NOT part of the USA (i.e. 96% of the worlds population) There are also a LOT of languages spoken by people in this great big world that are NOT english. So for example if you have Polish Immigrants living in Australia, they are blocked from being able to watch News and programming that is the most applicable to them. Or in US terms, think of it if you only had access to the News from your State and you were not entitled to see any news articles from any other state. That is how restrictive this crap is. Or if you want to put it another way, how would you feel if the ONLY TV you could watch came from China, with no translations. My bet is within a day or so you would be illegally downloading/watching content that you could understand. Also, Netflix in other countries is NOT the same as the US, there is a massive amount of content missing, because they are only the rights holders for that content in the USA. Also a lot of content you may have been watching on Netflix can disappear because they have had their rights to show it removed. And as for Channel "bundling " would you accept it if that same process was used at your supermarket, yes you can buy bread, milk, cheese, but only if you buy baby nappies, extra hot chillies, fish food, and a map of Puerto Rico, and you agree to this each week for 12 months. I DO NOT watch channels, I watch programs, Put Big Bang Theory on Channel 1, I watch it on Channel 1, put it on Channel 37, I watch it on Channel 37. So, I pay for Netflix, happily. I get to watch programs with no adverts, and can binge watch a whole series, multiple times if I so choose. HOWEVER, the studios don't want this, they want channels , lot of channels full of crap you are forced to pay for, they want repeat programming, they want adverts, they want you to watch when they play it not when you want to watch it. My response was to cut the cord and I will NEVER go back. I buy DVDs because it is cheaper to buy the DVD of a movie in New Zealand than it is for 2 people to go to the movies. So I no longer go to the movies. Big media has simply become too greedy.

  10. They could even use Oil from Texas to turn it into a Fire Wall.

  11. A few years back I would have said New Zealand too. Back in 1987 New Zealand enacted strong anti-nuclear legislation even though they knew there would be sanctions by the US and the UK. The legislation still stands. It has been rumoured the US knew about the French Governments bombing of the Rainbow Warrior in the Port of Auckland in advance and chose not to say anything. Today that bombing would be regarded as a terrorist act. Now its part of "5 eyes" I really doubt the same commitment to independence is there, particularly with the current Prime Minister who values his photos with him playing Golf with Obama. On the plus side his opinion of Trump is not high. New Zealand has taken some unpopular stances within the UN, for example trying to remove the "veto" rights that the US/Russia/China,France/UK have in the security council. Unfortunately "Kim Dotcom" has shown the US has managed to gain unacceptable levels of influence back with the NZ government, as has its recent willingness to adopt the more draconian US copyright and patent laws, these being particularly detrimental in the area of Health care. However, it is located a long way from anywhere, it power generation is not dependant on fossil fuels , and it a highly tolerant peaceful country.

  15. GPL forces everyone to share code. There is no choice, that has been taken away. Other licences allow code to be freely used and end users are encouraged to share their changes, but are not forced to do so. This is one of the reasons many developers are moving to alternative licensing schemes as it allows them to share the code the want to share and keep proprietary stuff away from any disputes. Apple has for example been dumping GPL for BSD (etc) licensed software, and they get to share what they want, yet proprietary code is not at risk from some zealot who tries to force them into supplying the code to proprietary portions of the OS. As for google, ask them for the code for any of their money making stuff, their sort algorithms , and of their large data stuff they use to target adverts at people. Likewise not ALL of the code for Android is available as it contains proprietary binary blobs. Google only shares what they want too. They are still a run-for-profit company . Androids main purpose was to redirect as much mobile traffic as they could to Google for google data mining. Think of Google like a printer manufacturer, they supply the printer cheap so they can make their profits from the ink.

  16. So apparently being FORCED to release code via GPL is morally superior to giving it because you can with no obligations. Guess people should be FORCED to give to charities, FORCED to vote, FORCED to ride share FORCED to donate organs, FORCED to vaccinate because the end results are also "better".

  19. Re:Great for China! on Trump: I'll Ditch TPP Trade Deal on Day One of My Presidency (arstechnica.com) · · Score: 1

The TPPA was a reaction to China. The US originally set up the WTO, using it to further US trade interests, mostly in their favour. What has happened in the last few decades is that the US has been on the loosing end of WTO decisions as the rest of the world has gained influence. The TPPA, and other agreements were there to "get around" the WTO, bypass it and try and create something else in the US's favour. Killing them off will long term be very bad for the USA. For a start the rest of the world could renegotiate IP/Copyright laws back to something sensible/sane. The US has also been "interfering" in Asia, creating tension among countries to try and head off any warming of relations between them. Asia account for 60% of the worlds population, and is the largest area for consumer growth. China will soon be the worlds largest economy, and if Brexit had not happened the EU would soon have been the 2nd largest leaving the US third (for now).

  20. Wow, you may as well have said the Rape is OK because Murder is worse. No one has claimed China is a paragon of virtue, however the claim the US is hypocritical is fair and accurate, and they should be among the last countries to denounce anyone else human rights records when their own are so bad.

  23. Well that excludes the US then too. American Farmers depend on undocumented immigrants that they exploit and abuse to keep costs down. Tipping is another excuse to pay some people less than the minimum wage And how many americans get and take 4 weeks of paid leave a year ?
