    high bandwidth, short hop, point to point technology does not ENSURE low latency. Not that I think the latency issues with this device will be bad, just thought I'd point out the error in your 'simple logic'.

    reminds me of Cisco's IPTV device, which uses a mangled linux kernel to start up windows server 2000, for god knows what reason.

    If you were running debian I'd simply say -- apt-get install gqcam I installed my first usb webcam on linux (an intel, sigh) yesterday with no effort via this method.

    You know you're the first person I've ever heard complain about 1) debian package management, which even the n00biest of n00bs can use or 2) dependency architectures. I don't know what you've been trying to install, but unless it's a customized kernel, you just grab the package name, hit + and hit g done. add this to autoupdates and a full dependency checking system which automatically resolves for you, I have no idea what you could want.

    the only time I see gender bias play out is subconsciously -- the guys I work with are alright, and they wouldn't ever actively deny a job to a woman, but when all they joke about is women and sex and sex with women etc etc ad infinitum.. it's bound to have a mental impact on the way they view women. I'm just sad that, as a junior sysadmin, I have no hiring say. On the flip side, the only women we have (government job -- they transferred. in case you were wondering about my paradox) are nearly incompetent. I'll be surprised, though pleasantly, if we get another woman sysadmin this decade. Shame I'm not in college; I'd like to meet some
