Just M$ trying to steal the thunder from a project meant to sell things cheap AND genuinly care about the end user, something M$ just cant seem to do. They wont give a damn about this thing, and yet people will still for some reason buy it because it has the mighty and deep pocketed M$ marketing machine behind it...
in areas where government research and funding has started to slack off, or at least, loose site of their goals (example: NASA doesnt care about getting to Mars and exploring space, they wanna put up new GPS satellites and do seemingly random expirements on the ISS (which are no doubt useful, but if you want public support, the public needs to understand the basics of the research on the ISS))
the funny thing is, last I checked, IBM also made/making the 360 and Revolution procs, and from the way Cell seems to be coming along, IBM seems to care about it a helluva lot more than the others - mostly because Cell will be usable for more than just gaming (contrary to most peoples opinions that "its just another gaming proc" - ya, a gaming proc thatll be used (somewhere the clusters) for rendering MRIs, simulating nuclear explosions, realtime weather and geological simulations - damn near everything in supercomputing and servers which fars I know is IBMs passion)
actually, they have supposedly planned (at least planned, how many other companies would just say "nope, aint gonna happen") "scaled down" versions for cell phones and such, and scaled up versions for servers and supercomputers...
This was one of the biggest things I thought this article would be about, and it would be nice if somebody put some decent work into speech synthesis, the text to speech synthesiser on my PC gaming clan's ventrilo server wouldnt sound so crappy pronouncing stuff - in some cases funny though, like when it tries to pronounce urls...
BTW: ya I know the synthesiser is part of the client, usually uses MS Sam I think...

Anyway what he basically said was that, hey, maybe its better for Google to censor stuff in the Chinese version of the search engine, if they didnt China could have just cut off ALL internet connections and then the people of china wouldnt have ANY exposure to western society. Basically the guy was tryin to say that its better for the people of China to be able to use google and have exposure to western society than for Google to not go along with China and just get blocked again (across the whole country of China) or all their internet access cut off.

namely Sony, they figure, hey the first time they entered the console market with the original Xbox, it ended up killing Sega and their Dreamcast - so they figure, hey the hell why not again, this time maybe we'll get lucky and kill off Sony...
The thing is, Sega was/is hardware and games only, when Sony on the other hand, is damn near as big if not (dare I say it) bigger than the unholy Microsoft Empire. So what, MS has Windows, Xbox, and MS Office - Sony makes super high end TV's, computer hardware (such as the Vaio line, the world could be running on Linux - if a few of the distros would make it nice and shiny and more user friendly than even Windows or OS X), the Playstation line of consoles, and the fact that where as Warner Bros, Paramount, Universal, and Tristar used to be in the intro to damn near every movie made that Americans watched, now half the movies I see commercials/pre-views for are by Sony.

So having fps that actually look decent and titles like GTA Liberty City Stories (whatever the exact name is) and tons of others, not to mention the connectivity it will have with the PS3, the kind of connectivity every Nintendo platform from the N64+Gameboy to Gamecube+GBA was supposed to have where you could complete a quest on the living room scale console rpg and connect the portable and unlock content on the portable version of the same game type of connectivity, yet every single one of these efforts by Nintendo failed misserably???

mmm... very good point, ya broadband is xpensive... if u would be using it for just watching the Stewie-cast and browsin the net, its true -theres almost no point in paying for broadband -unless you just cant stand to wait for slashdot come up...
if you're not gonna be using it for online gaming (bf2, wow, counterstrike, everquest, dare I say it: halo) then there is virtually no point in spending the extra 30 or 50 bucks to get broadband...
first, just the little spelling error "life years" is "light years" - the distance light travels in one year...
second, if there is other sentient life in the universe (how could there not be, its a helluva huge place, itd be an aweful waste to have it all for just humans), and we havent found it within those 20k light years, wouldnt that mean that the farther we search, the more likely we would be to find sentient life (elsewhere from Earth)
