  1. Well crap on Verizon To Kill All Unlimited Data Plans · · Score: 1

That sucks. Even though I don't use data much on 3g, it was always nice to know that I didn't have to worry about a cap. Now I have to worry about it. Bah.

  2. Hackers? on SCADA Hacker: Water District Used 3-Character Password · · Score: 1

The most common passwords are god, love, sex, and password. Doesn't surprise me. Why was god on the mainframe this late at night, anyhow? Zero cool would have done better.

  3. 70% of good data...? on Why Good Data Can Be Hard to Find Online · · Score: 5, Funny

I read online somewhere that 70% of statistics online are made up. This article seems to prove the point. 4 out of 5 slashdotters agree! ;)

  5. Re:This is disingenuous Media spin on What's the Problem With US High Schools? · · Score: 1

Stupid classes like Physical Education? While I will admit, requiring certain things in P.E. class (like the climb the rope thing) are silly, P.E. is a necessity. Why do you think so many people are overweight in america? Because people do not like to exert themselves physically.
I can say this because i'm one of those people who hated P.E. . That does not mean we shouldn't have it!

If you want to consider a stupid class (IMO, IANAL), consider Drama 101... we've already got enough Drama in our lives as it is, do we really need to have a class to teach us how to have more? /wink

  6. Re:Perhaps it is a demographics shift too on Does File-Sharing Really Hurt the Music Biz? · · Score: 2, Informative

Last.fm is another one of the demographics music websites. Very nice, i've used it for a year and a half now. It's turned me on to music in other lands that I quite enjoy.

  7. Re:Home Office on Massives As Your Third Home · · Score: 2, Insightful

On another note: something I find I do altogether too often in social situations (pubs, parties etc) is put on a "mask", a persona that makes me less vulnerable. In MMORPGs the implicit existence of a mask often means that people can be more "themselves" than they would otherwise. Maybe that's why it's such a good place for some people to relax and interact. Could be that it's doing wonders for the social skills of some people...

People when in public, must, by needs of society, be... well, inhibited by consience. When playing under the guise of an avatar, character, toon, whatever the 'mask' is, you naturally feel that you can show the true personality that lies at the center of your personality. You don't have to hold back in voicing your opinion online, because there is little to no threat of injury or consequence, whereas in the real world you don't always voice your opinion because you don't want to offend anyone.

I've played MMO's for 6+ years now... while I can't always say that the experiences have been totally 100% positive, I consider my time spent in the various games i've played to have helped me to figure out who I am and what my personality is. And it's helped me to focus on what aspects of my life and personality I'd like to improve on. You can learn alot about yourself (and others) when playing an online game, or being a part of any online community. I've sure found enhancements to my social skills from playing MMO's. It does indeed do wonders.

  8. Re:Driving force for bloodless surgery on Bloodless Surgery · · Score: 2, Interesting

That all depends on your faith. You see, some people have such faith in their beliefs that they are willing to die for them, by abstaining from any kind of blood. Many people have a problem with this. But remember, Jehovah's Witnesses are simply messengers. They aren't trying to promote any kind of violence or bloodshed. And refering to the comment about how JW's harbor child abusers, consider this: Nobody is perfect. There will always be people who make mistakes, who do wrong things, and who choose to do acts of injustice. You'll find that in every group of people, whether it be a religious group or a national group. Depending on your faith, that may or may not change soon. My faith is solid, that's for sure.
