That's because it's actually the new European flag, and the twelve stripes are for the twelve founding countries. If you look at the stars part, you'll notice there are way fewer than fifty stars, instead, there's one for every EC member country.
Yes, it looks like they have removed the comments manually, instead of just removing all comments on the book from the time Slashdotters started "crapflooding" the page.
BTW, I found the "crapflood" pretty amusing, actually.
No, the implementation of an algorithm is less generic, and more specific.
So if you invented a faster sorting algorithm, and wanted to patent it, you'd have to describe how it works in pseudo-code, and implement it in a real programming language and show that it works.
If the patenting process actually worked as designed, such an invention might be worth a patent, but considering what's happening now, I think we're better off without software patents.
No, those old Disney cartoons should be in the public domain, and Mickey Mouse should remain a trademark of Disney Corp. [I.e. you should be able to distribute the old Disney cartoons verbatim, but not able to make your own Mickey Mouse cartoon or distribute edited versions of the old cartoons.]
Disney didn't distribute Fahrenheit 9/11 because they have a policy not to publish political movies (this has been different in past decades).
Wouldn't it be much cheaper to setup a website where individuals can order the parts, and then to combine all those orders into one big order? It'd be much cheaper than having loads of one-off orders with the accompanying setup and handling costs.
Yes, I'm Dutch;-)

Well, they had on their side the element of surprise... SURPRISE!
They had an episode with a mediaeval village and an Unas who pretended to be the devil and demanded sacrifices.
I think the writers handled that pretty well. Those people were abducted by a ship (people claim that happens all the time!), and of course no Goa'uld could play a good-aligned god, so it chose to play his nemesis, the devil.
And of course the sets, they're always very good. Especially that 1940s planet with all the old-fashioned lab equipment, that was really good.
Grandparent means to imply that it was deemed impossible to write a tree-growing algorithm that takes up 15% CPU time, which is of course bollocks.
Attached, please find an overview of the company

It won't discourage them, as it gives them more hits, and give random players more power.
Just ignore them.
Sad, yes. Lonely, no.
I guess you don't have volcano insurance?
You need paradox-absorbing crumple zones installed in your head.
So if someone complains about your poor language, is he then a "grammer nazzi"? :-P
Google cache is already disabled in China, at least, that's what previous Slashdot comments mention.
There'd be no-one to tell you:
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!!
Lameness filter encountered. Post aborted!
Reason: Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING.
Music Theory has been worthless ever since Bach's Cathedral was built!
Are you related to Eric S Rayrnond (739458) by any chance?
Yes, but how can you be sure they're not joe-jobs?
Around here, they call it the German lottery. Figures...

Parent post is a good post that could do with some positive moderation, even if it's an AC.

Wow, that's enough to purchase a SCO Linux license ($699) and a CD ($13)!

That's probably the reverse of what happened when Microsoft seemed to be running Linux.

Nonono, it's because of the Ass of Mars, exactly on the opposite side of the planet from the Face of Mars.
