Yeah, that was in "From Russia With Love". It always seemed to me to be the most stupid "hidden" weapon I've seen. Good if you're in a crowd, massively ineffective in a 1on1 situation.
If you're going to complain about Vista, complain about obnoxious (though undoubtably good in the long run) UAC. Or about the lack of quality drivers (not really Microsoft's fault but they should really be pressuring the hardware manufacturers more).
Neither of these have been a problem for me, and I'm one of the gluttons that uses Vista 64bit. UAC is trivial to turn off, and I've yet to find any hardware that is unusable in Vista (granted, my hardware is not esoteric, or ancient).
The New Yorker had an interesting article a few weeks back about young vs old geniuses, that your post made me think of. Let me see if I can find it....
From reading various things, I've come to the conclusion that brains are hard to generalize. Even assuming one of the million things that can go wrong with them doesn't, in fact, happen, they still develop differently from individual to individual, and that what we presume to be the normal way that people's brains "age" isn't necessarily so.
Yeah, the "intuitive" meme for interfaces bothers me a lot these days. Apparently now it means, "This works the way (the market dominator/my other stuff) works." It's got nothing to do with whether or not the interface is usable out of the gate for an arbitrary user with arbitrary experience.
I don't buy this argument. I can spend 1000$ more on a camera if I spend $1000 less on the laptop (and the MBPs aren't THAT much better than the MBs, particularly for my interest area (audio) ).
At the risk of being redundant, Firewire is the also the standard for audio interfaces as well (yes, there are USB2 audio interfaces, no, they aren't serious devices).
Well, maybe, but the fact is that Firewire is already widespread through that market segment and it *works*. It works *really* well. There isn't a current need for a new interface, other than the days old "Apple is abandoning it problem".
Yeah, and this is pretty much my take on it. The amateur and pro-am creative folks who are footing the bill out of their own pockets will just migrate to another platform. There's plenty of audio apps for Windows that work fine, but it's still too bad. Garageband is really unparalleled for quick and dirty live audio production.
I don't want to seem like an ass, but the fact that you are using M-Audio gear indicates to me that you're really not working "pro" audio interfaces (particularly on Mac, since the OS X support for M-Audio is awful).
While you are probably correct that Apple is further straying down the road of "consumer appliance" for their sub-2000$ computing devices and they can be served by USB2 ports, what it says to me even more is that Apple is happy abandoning some of the creative folks who are frequently the traditional standard bearers for OS X (video and audio creative folks). There's a lot of audio editing and composing, for example, that doesn't need a $2000 MBP.
But, as I said on Ars, that's fine. The audio folks will eventually just move to an alternate OS platform.
Yeah, okay, you get an SLA by paying for the business version, but anyone doing their homework and a few thought experiments will realize that SLAs are only potentially helpful after the fact.
$50/yr/user isn't going to get you 100% uptime, I don't care who is running it.
This strikes me kinda similar to the folks who try to run their businesses off Dreamhost shared web hosting servers (which don't even HAVE SLAs) and go ballistic when something breaks.
Even when they do call for expert testimony, it rarely changes any minds. Most of these laws (which are redundant and/or unconstitutional) are simply there to make it easier to get re-elected by "thinking of the children".
In terms of platform, the parties are pretty different.
In *practice*, however, they are much closer together. Aside from religiously-motivated hot-button issues (abortion, gay marriage) R and D frequently vote together on various measures.
Furthermore, in conservative areas you will find "family value" "pro-life" "gun freedom" Ds and "pro-choice" "gun control" "civil union" Rs.
In the whole world-wide spectrum line of politics, you will find the Ds to be very slightly left of center and the Rs to be very slightly right.
But, since they are our only *real* choices, the divide seems much wider due to the truncation of the rest of the spectrum.
I also find the analysts the most entertaining part, if for no other reason than the (usually new face) partisan representative that gets brought in that is spinning faster than it was previously believed to be humanly possible. It's like watching someone who was just thawed out and their entire world view was presented to them on note cards, 10 minutes before they were put in front of the camera.

Pretty much. I was a bit unnerved when I went to Vista about 6 months ago. However, it's been pretty good to me so far.

Ah, here it is

The actual professional audio engineers with budgets use a variety of tools, only one of which is Pro Tools.
Pro Tools doesn't do anything that can't be replicated elsewhere.
There's advantages to being able to have your rational mind override your emotional mind.
You seem to have misread my post. It was in favor of Firewire interfaces, not USB
As for having to rebuy software, life's rough I guess. If Firewire goes away on Apple devices, there won't be much choice.

See here. Monkeys will only get cheaper :D
Besides, trolly-troll, they were only temporarily paralyzed ( for example as mentioned here. )
Now, back to your hole.

so would the CLIT commander.
As does the LABIA movement
Most laws are there to catch the low-hanging fruit anyway, from what I've come to understand.
The truly intelligent criminals never appear on the radar.

*wistful sigh*
Nathan Explosion?
No, anyone who uses Usenet knows that the non-binary groups are a wasteland.
According to traffic distribution, it'll probably end up on alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.politics :D

To me, that's comedy.
Anecdotally, I've been happy with my EVGA Geforce 9600GT.
