    Not just judges.

I've had a recent run of very important correspondence with some colleagues (some peers, some more senior, some more junior). They're out of country and I'm supposed to provide them a whole bunch of information, usually in the form of answers to their questions that I need to research here to get them the answers. I found they were telling my managers that I hadn't been passing the information they requested, which of course had me e-mailing the managers with a copy of the e-mails I'd previously sent.

Turns out these guys weren't reading the reply. How do I know? Well I followed the same 'booby trap' method. In a couple of e-mails I inserted the words "if you read this sentence, e-mail be back and I'll buy you a case of beer"...

I've only had one request for the case of beer out of about 10 "ZOMG answer this or the world will end" e-mails.

Yep, All of them. I haven't purchased a DVD in a while, and these were ones I rented. (2 from netflix, and one from Blockbuster that I took back and got a replacement which still didnt work --- before we were Netflix members). With Blockbuster I told them that the disks wouldn't play and that I wasnt happy. I even told them that I'd be getting my movies from Netflix from now on. With the netflix movies, I filed the 'defective disk' or whatever the netflix option has... I figure if other people do the same, the trend will show.

If blockbuster and netflix both complain to Sony, things might change.

I own a LG - DVT418 home theater and these disks wont play on that. I've returned 2 disks to Blockbuster, and filed 2 reports to Netflix for 'broken disks'.

I'm a little disappointed not to see Mythtv on the list. It could do with a boost.

Mythtv was on the SOC list last year but I don't think we saw much in the way of enhancements - just an 'experimental' add detection algorithm which you can use instead of the standard one. They had a list of things they wanted done, most importantly making setup a bit easier and a new (ajax?) UI.

The latest Ubuntu (Feisty) includes support for the PVR-150 out of the box, (IVTV drivers?), and will include more for Mythtv in the repo's, or so I am lead to believe. And has allot more support for getting up and running with Mythtv, just Mythtv itself needs a boost.

Oh well, It will get there eventually.

Google dont make OS's (well not yet) and sure Google have a web app that can read office docs, which is really more for convenience, so at least until recently the two companies have been after completely different things.

MSFT is just a little scared because they are accustomed to being the only big boy on the block. Now there are two big boys, but different blocks. IMHO, MSFT should focus on improving its Office tools and making OS's. Read: Their Core Business. MSFT trying to compete with Google with search is a battle already lost. MSFT trying to compete with Apple on mp3 players is a battle already lost. But for everyone else, Competing with MSFT on an OS and Office suite is a battle already lost. You might still start to get spam, if someone on your list has a compromised address list or computer.

I've often thought of generating some kind of unique e-mail address for each of my friends, to detect if my e-mail address has been compromised by them (or their PC). e.g:

asdf2344ks@gmail.com for my emails to Tom
oieo116i2k@gmail.com for my emails to Liz

The idea is they reply to that address, and mail to these addresses would aggregate to my inbox. If one of those email addresses starts to get spammed, I'll have an idea of who's responsible, change the address for them and see if it continues. After it happening a couple of times I could inform them that they may have a compromised computer and help them out etc.

I just dont have the time to implement such a scheme and rely on Gmails spam filtering which i think is pretty good.
