Halo isn't really special in any way, but the storytelling in the first one was suberb, as was the combat, graphics and sound. I've played my fair share of PC FPS' (and I still do, they're my fav type of game) but Halo 1 was in the same ballpark as Half-Life.
I hope the story is damn great, because the visuals don't look all that interesting, and under a barrage of some truly great titles coming to the PC it'll be tough.
I think any fan of BSG recognises the show needs a damn end in this season. This is going to become the dog that the son has to take out the back and shoot just to put it out of it's misery.
I agree, but I don't like the current implementation. Products like Windows Home Server won't appeal to the masses, they'll see it as too hard. What we need is a mixture between a router and a server, something that's easy to setup, small, cheap and is able to use storage spread over a numebr of PCs to share media and information.
While Beryl is nice and has some good customisability, Aero is just a more polished look (sometimes I do prefer Beryl since I can turn all the shit off).
Obviously you've never used Vista, or only beta 2. Try getting an informed opinion. I've used both Linux and Vista extensively and they both need root access for the same things. UAC just doesn't pop up randomly like the Mac adverts are willing you to believe.
Of course sudo can be implemented graphically (I was of course referring to the command line version) but then there is no difference between UAC and sudo, so sudo is as annoying as UAC.
I suggest you come up with a system that is easy as UAC but with the same security. Sudo just isn't an option for everyday users. Plus, the only really annoying thing about it is the black desktop.
What the hell are you talking about? Windows Vista search is a bit faster and more functional than Spotlight. if it's slow at finding stuff then either the index is being built, or you're searching in a folder that hasn't been indexed. both of which will pop up warnings telling you this.
The summary states both OSs are a tie but I've totalled up the points and Windows wins. Just another example of the huge Linux bias on Slashdot; while sometimes it's deserved (no, I'm not an MS fanboy) the editors usually try and alter a summary to put Linux in a more favourable light.
With GPUs you don't have the large changes in the process that CPUs have but they are getting more efficient. The problem is that people think efficiency means low power; it doesn't. GPUs are having quantum leaps in speed while CPUs haven't seen that, so they're just using up more and more power.
Don't be so stupid, one of the reasons any semiconductor company raises clocks is to see if they can run something faster at the same voltage. This inevitably leads to faster processors at lower wattages or lower wattages overall.
At the moment it may be but remember Wine will one day support DX10, and if you're big on DX9/OpenGL gaming right now the 8000 series is the fastest around.
Also, since these are just big stream processors and nVidia's GPGPU libraries are coming on nicely you'll soon be able to use them for other things, like Folding@Home. Or something like a specially built compiler (which would be great for Gentoo users).
This is ridiculous, I can't count the times Wikipedia has given me a reliable, quick and advanced source of information. If anything they should link it from the homepage.
For one thing, increasing the clock speed would decrease the cycle time for one clock, therefore lowering latency.
And another thing, lots of peope buy Dominator and other high-performance brands because of the overclocking potential. Faster RAM will help you clock your processor to higher speeds. Period.
In an old episode the master (God bless Roger Delgado's soul) did something to the Eye of Harmony (stole it, or used it) to gain an extra 12 regenerations.
I doubt MS is going to rewrite major parts of it's kernel and driver system just to make someone who spends £500 on a DX10 card buy can't afford £80 on Vista happy.
Neutron radiation while technically not 'contagious' will knock other neutrons out of a material and could create a radioisotope of that material.
Then again neutron emitters or a combination of elements which emit neutrons are pretty rare, so it's not worth worrying about it.
Also, I believe Radium paint glows because the radiation gives energy to the phosphors in the paint (like UV reactive phosphors). Light doesn't count as radiation if emitted, since it's harmless.
20.38: Skynet becomes aware
20.39: Skynet gives more bandwidth
20.40: ????
20.41: Profit!

ntl:telewest is now called Virgin Media after they bought the mobile phone division from Virgin.

Spotlight/Beagle both suffer from this.

So your laptop has 3GHz Opterons inside it?

It's enough for the OS but for someone like me who has a TV card 64GB (or 64GiB?) is nowhere near enough.
The only reason I can think of to actually use OOo is that fact that it's free. MS Office 2007 is simply too kick arse.

Actually if you use vLite to trim the Vista install CD you can cut out quite a lot of the stuff (plus fit it onto a 700MB CD). vLite
According to Michael Howard my post has been downgraded to only second post.

That's no black hole!
