What a load of BS... it's an assignment of rights, these kinds of things happen everyday. I also have to disagree that it would only be a valid contract if both parties get something out of the agreement. If that were the case then a will would not be valid, since only one party, namely the deceased, does not get anything out of it.

That's gotta suck, bringing down 3 companies like that must really depress you. You should try and get a job with a company to take a job at their competitor. But seriously, I agree, I think that a lot of people will move to support OSS when times are tough. That kind of thing can really beef up a resume, especially if you can prove yourself on these projects.

well whoever wrote this article needs to get out more. I was recently working with some CS students, they were interns, and none of them had any problems, they all knew C and C++, some were well versed in Obj-C and all knew Python and Ruby better than anyone else in the company (we are a bunch of dinosaurs though). It really does sound to me that the problem is specific to a few courses and a few institutions.

While we should spend time making it more difficult for botnets to exist more time should be spent on making botnets irrelevant. We should understand why they exist and what we can do to remove the temptation for them to be used. Also, if people would stop buying faster computers botnets would be easier to detect. I've gone beyond the definition.... But let's analyze it just to be fair. Here are a few definitions I've found: 1 Conformity to fact or actuality. 2 A statement proven to be or accepted as true. 3 the true or actual state of a matter Starting with the first one, to conform to the facts one must first determine the facts. A fact is, something known to exist or to have happened, which by definition assumes that the event was observed, which brings us to my point, observers are fallible. The second definition brings us back to my point again, for something to be proven it must be observed. This definition also introduces acceptance of a statement, acceptance of something does not make it reality. And again in the third definition determining the state of a matter requires observation and again observers are fallible. I reiterate, Truth is unattainable is it's purest form the best we can hope for is "accepted truth"

How can anyone view something or convey an idea without perception getting in the way. Truth very much relies on perception. Everything is perceived by us or another person, there is no getting around that. Perhaps "truth" exists in the ether, but it isn't really within reach by any stretch. Truth has only as much value as your perception allows it to have, your response is evidence of that.

I know that the medical research field has a lot of mac users. I wouldn't say it dominates or is even a majority, it was a long time ago when I observed this. Could be that many of the large university research institutions tend to support mac users as well. Again, I don't think apple is dominant here either.

Personally, and this is speaking as a long time Mac user who also uses windows and linux, I don't think it really matters what OS you use as long as you can find the applications you need, or you can create the applications you need. That's actually kind of how I got into linux, I had some ambitious goals for some wild product/project ideas and no applications existed for it. So I was going to have to create the applications myself. I choose linux simply because it was new to me and free. I have yet to really get anywhere with those goals, but I'm glad that I took the time to play with linux.

Someday I predict more people, and not just nerds like me, but general business users, artists and senior citizens will be able to use any platform without having to take a class or read a book. <rant>I think that the OS should be more transparent, and merely a mediation layer. I think they have become too bloated with "features" that should be provided outside of the OS.</rant>
