I don't use carriage returns or line feeds, it's unnecessary and just bloats the filessize. If people can't scroll or wrap the text on their own then they should be hauled off and shot. I used to omit spaces as well, but I found my code had trouble compiling, stupid compilers... 80 columns that's s0 20th century.
You also have to account for the reduced carbon costs associated with transporting the food to the cities. If the food is produced closer to the table it has less of an impact. Victory garden anyone?
I'm not suggesting hundreds of thousands of auto mechanics... to be honest I don't believe it's happening. I would guess that is this kind of thing is happening it's happening at larger chains and/or dealerships. And honestly my comment was a jab at the "conspiracy" nuts... personally I could care less if someone knows my driving habits, I'll tell you now... I drive a little fast from time to time, and about once a week I get the urge to drive under the speed limit, which tends to piss people off, but I think I get high on that; I also tend to stray to the right, even though my tires are balanced and aligned, I think it's fear of commitment; when I get gas I like to top it off until a little bit spills over the top, I like a little bit of danger. Oh and I like to pass cops on the freeway and pull in front of them and tap on my breaks.
No, you are not the only one.... I hate ads and I'd rather pay to see quality shows. Unfortunately there are not too many quality shows out there worth paying for, even without ads.
I think that Linux needs to get it's shit together for this to ever happen. It's too all over the place, and there are too many distributions for anyone to take it seriously as a mainstream desktop environment. I could see Adobe getting behind one or two distributions and providing support if installed on one of those, but there are too many moving parts in the community. It's too easy for them to say "we can't help you, you must have some custom x in your y causing conflicts"
Don't get me wrong, Linux is great, I just don't have faith in the fractured FOSS community.
>> sending a spreadsheet to have some numbers punched in, PDF isn't going to do it for you..
Actually PDFs can be made much smarter than you think, you could, without too much work create a pdf that data can be put into and have that data sent back to the sender. But I don't think the tools are up to snuff for the general business crowd.
But seriously, how many people are actually going to edit files on a phone? Viewing files, sounds great and I would definitely like an iPhone for that purpose. In all honesty I'm not really in a business that would benefit from a tool like this. A regular cell phone is plenty.. well with text as well.
>> 2- Usefulness as a RIA application [remember the disaster that was Flash Googlemaps?]
Have you used Flex??
>>3- Horribly broken scripting language [still an issue]
AS3 rocks, and even AS2 is far better than javascript. I don't think scripting is broken at all. Perhaps you just aren't keeping up with the technology.

I have to admit that I'm a bit of a gadget junkie so I may be a bit skewed. I think that is a great move for them.
I'd have to say it's either BS or we are getting a lot of free energy somewhere. I have a hybrid and it has 94k on it, and I sure as shit haven't made enough money in that time to pay for operating it. Unless it's going to cost $100k to dispose of my car... and my car still has a lot of life in it.
Crackpots they are!
I think that Microsoft should just stop trying with anything internet. Just focus on the Operating System. Let Adobe, Google, Amazon and whoever else take care of the applications and the internet. They are doing us all a disservice by even trying.
I'm going to have to agree here. The top talent are the folks that get the rules changed for them, or do their f'ing job and don't putz around with personal emails.
I didn't know which to respond to. I happen to think that if you slap a license on it it's not free, GPL, BSD whatever it has some sort of restriction on it. The only free software I've seen is public domain, like libTom for example. And if I ever get around to creating some free software I will do just that, public domain... but for now I a greedy control freak just like all the other Free software folks.
eMusic sucks compared to iTMS... they are missing some really great music in their catalog.
As for the reasons apple uses drm and emusic does not... I haven't a clue and would not pretend to understand it. eMusic just got a better deal I guess... or did it?
BULLSHIT!
They over reacted and they know it... all they needed to do was take a second look at them to know that they were not bombs. Everybody needs to slow down and think a little more pragmatically, reasonable people would not have allowed this to close down anything.
I'm glad I don't live in Boston and have a fucking dolt for a mayor... at the very least he should be amused by this.
I think i'm going to have to trade in my old TI-92 for an 89. I bought mine in college, about 10 years ago. For the record I went to a school that didn't care about the AP/SAT/ACT tests and I never took them... I'm kind of a snob I guess.
Why can't you use a TI-92 on an AP test? Just curious, I don't really ever plan on taking one.. I'm making a great living with my street smarts, I don't want to mess it up by learning actual facts. But seriously, what's the deal?
Perhaps it is not as open as you want... but it is a standards based technology...
http://www.adobe.com/licensing/developer/ It is a freely available format that anyone can develop in. And I have grapsed the impotence of the open standards-based technology that you speak of. I've been in the business 12 years, and using the internet for 15 years. Using flash is no different than using a c compiler. I happen to like the fact that I can develop a flash/flex app that will look and act the same on all platforms that support it. Trying to develop for any other open standard is like trying to take pee out of the pool. I used to spend more time than was acceptable in any other profession to develop simple cross platform and cross browser websites. Frankly I'm sick of the lack of standards support and the strange interpretation of the standards. The standards would be so much better is they were not only standard in design but also in implementation. You can go on living in your Utopia of broken standards, I'm moving on because I can't wait for things to catch up. You 21st century ludites can have your Zork and Lynx.... Wait am I a troll?
I won't deny that there is a lot of pointless crap out there. I am referring more to web applications than the junk you refer to. Don't let one bad experience ruin your whole outlook. If we all did that then much more of the world, not just slashdotters wouldn't be having sex.
This all makes me sad because I am a professional Flash and Flex Developer. I personally don't see a problem with using Flash in this case as long as other steps are taken to ensure security. I also used to work for a company that did Online Banking for Financial Institutions, and from what I know about all the research we did in this area Flash is no more or less secure. One that that it does offer over other options was we could do a catchpa and still have it be accessible to vision impaired people.
So all I can say to Flash bashing is grow up, open up you mind, just because it isn't as open or "free" as whatever crap you use doesn't make it a bad idea. And don't use the argument that it isn't available for everyone, neither is the internet or banks for that mater.
bravo... far funnier than that crap I posted.
And I have little sympathy for those who cannot see the simpler solution... change the spelling of too to to, or add another set of definitions to to.

You have a link to that video? There is nothing in the world I care more about than goth chicks food likes.
Do you have any links or references for these studies? I'm curious.

how do we know this isn't already happening?
